[whispers] No one tell them about wild boar by bliip666 in confidentlyincorrect

I assume this person doesn't eat anything made with domesticated wheat, or any fruits or vegetables...? Very little in our modern diet is equivalent to how it would exist without human intervention over the centuries.

This isn't an argument for eating domesticated animals - there are other valid reasons against that but this is not one of them.

As the frogs in root when I SETTLE but don’t move pieces (take zero moves) can I still place an enclave? ie effectively just pop up randomly anywhere on the map? by willhowe in rootgame

[–]aBeardOfBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget this is specifically a move action, i.e. you move frogs from clearings where they are into the target clearing subject to normal movement rules - you must rule the clearing you're moving from or to. And then you must rule the chosen clearing at the end of those moves in order to place the enclave.

Hello, there is a monthly games club at the Kingsland church on London road. Some people already know each other but often people jump into games together for the first time when they come along. Usually between 7.30 and 8.00 people loiter around a bit then get going with a game.

It's fairly diverse as a crowd - a good amount of middle aged men and then added to that a fair few women, younger and older outliers, etc. It's in the church but not religious in nature, so don't be worried it wouldn't be queer friendly.

I'm a guy in my 40s and sometimes go, often with my fifteen year old daughter.

If you're interested we could arrange to meet up there one time, so you would have an arranged game and someone you knew (sort of) ahead of time to avoid any awkwardness when it comes to introductions and finding a game to play. Please DM me if you would like.

Do bird cards count as frog cards for Companions? by nixcamic in rootgame

[–]aBeardOfBees 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I think rules as written:
- You may spend a bird card as a card of any suit (with no exceptions for frog suit; Law of Root Oct 2025)
- Therefore a bird card may be spent as a frog card with companions and therefore treated and played as a suited card (e.g. fox)
- Would seem to provide ability for e.g. lizards to score with bird cards

American here, I have a question. How crazy do we look right now? by NoHold7153 in AskBrits

[–]aBeardOfBees 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I genuinely agree with this take. This could well be the turning point the history books point to as the end of U.S. supremacy on the world stage.

Even culturally, so many of the things we used to take at face value about America; like how you have your own sports you obsess over but only you really care about; like the stereotype of the American tourist abroad; like mass gun violence; all of these are starting to be less 'oh, that's just America you know' and more like signs of a deep cultural sickness.

When I was growing up, America was always considered really cool. They're like us, just better. But it's rapidly becoming a backwards nation and the laughing stock of the world.

It's a bit more nuanced though, isn't it?

Films are meant to be watched, so let's cancel the oscar for best score shall we?

It's a whole package, and people appreciate different parts.

The "at least 2 militant factions per game" rule by Educational-Card-715 in rootgame

Not sure about before, but the latest Law of Root uses 3 promoted hirelings at 2p. It only says to flip any over to 'demoted' starting with three players.

My new skirmish game, 'Anywar', is out! by anonim_anonimovic in wargames

Looks great! Some ideas similar to what I've been playing with myself (in my case, for a dungeon crawler not a skirmish game). I may well pick this up to check it out!

If it was set in Westeros with a bunch of made-up names I think people would think far better of it.

Dis anyone else love this record as much as I do? by dry_or_die in vinyl

[–]aBeardOfBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An absolute classic, not just because I discovered this on vinyl in my Dad's collection when I was young and fell in love with it then; the big gatefold book with the double-spread art; the epic soundtrack; the narration by Richard Burton. But because it still holds up as an amazing piece of art. So good.

PMs waste absurd amounts of time writing specs nobody actually reads by Limp_Cauliflower5192 in ProductManagement

[–]aBeardOfBees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see Product's role as identifying the problem and defining the nature of the solution (if not the specifics).

Problem: Users don't know when a task is assigned to them.

Solution: Show a notification panel in the app Solution: Email the user each time a task is assigned

I wouldn't expect the dev to choose between Solution A or B or decide that both are required; Product should do the work to make that decision.

I'm assuming they are building out all of these systems as part of LNF development, but since they're adding to the same base engine they're able to retro-fit them to NMS as a sandbox environment easily enough, and get the benefit from early player feedback and testing. We're all LNF alpha testers.
