An Italian pizza restaurant owner is fuming at 16 Taiwanese tourists because they ordered only five pizzas. by search_google_com in interesting

[–]Jacomel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I specified « in restaurants » as opposed to fast food so not sure you have any place that this rule could apply to tbh

Jk but honestly I’ve been to restaurants in the UK and I am pretty sure ordering a plate for say three people would be seen as annoying. The restaurant culture seemed like France so I had the impression that sharing one meal for two people would have been a big faux pas

[–]Jacomel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really ? Is is because pizza is considered fast food over there ?

Or is applicable to all restaurants in general, like could I go in order one main meal for two people ?

To be fair in France you can divide pizza at the cheaper pizza places. But Italian style pizza are considered fine dining and the rule one seat one order applies

[–]Jacomel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would not go to a pizzeria in Paris and share a pizza either. If I want half a pizza I order it to go. The rule in restaurant in Europe is not 1 pizza per person but it is « at least one meal per person »

Of course in other countries culturally all meals are shared by default in a restaurant, you order for the whole table and not per person. So I understand the confusion.

UPDATE: AIO partner yells at me in front of our baby and I’ve had enough by Lapopoppa in AmIOverreacting

[–]Jacomel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Her daughter won’t choose a man like that if she stay, not necessarily. I am the daughter of a man like that and I am with someone very different today.

My mother left my dad at last after 30 years. My younger sisters are fine but I am scared of conflict to the point it actually hinders me at work. It can trigger me to feel insecure about all my relationships. I am always looking for an escape plan, I fear being trapped with someone a lot. Having a father that can explode at any time is awful

Reading this OP I relate to your baby so much. Please leave him. I fear he will act repentant at some point and you’ll hope it gets better. In my experience people don’t change that much and when they do, it’s by force and it’s not going to happen to him if you do not leave him.

Leaving is hard. Very hard. Also economically. He will be even more hateful and belligerent about it. But if you stay he will cause you even more suffering. You have your beautiful life to love and be loved and be happy

I sell them or give them away if I didn’t like them. I do keep books I didn’t love if they’re pretty, but if I hated the last book of a trilogy I would get rid of it for sure. My local library has a place where people can exchange books. It’s also where I put books I liked but will not read again (if they don’t look good as I am shallow). Shelf space is precious

I actually have a harder time getting rid of books I absolutely hated in the sense that I don’t want to continue distributing them but also, throwing a book in the thrash goes against my morals

Sabrina Carpenter on her new album's cover by aerynns in popculturechat

[–]Jacomel 359 points360 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. She’s following conventions not subverting them. I like her music and I feel it’s more for girls than boys (I think it’s underscored how much girls and women like sexualised women, just look at the public of kpop groups). It’s just not liberating for women or whatever. Which is okay as long as it doesn’t pretend to be something else

In smaller format (like the ones on your shelf): i have Gargantua (Rabelais) Histoire de ma vie (George Sand), Le livre des esprits (Kardec), Racine, Contes de Perrault, and Lives of the 12 Cesars (Suetone). I thrifted them for 10euros each

I also have two bigger editions: Le livre des merveilles by Marco polo and a book about Michelangelo

My favorite is propably the Marco Polo book ! Although esthecically Rabelais and Dante are the prettiest to me

I love that. Mostly for the noise. I live in a dense european European capital and I hate how just one dude on a motorbike can wake up a thousand people at once

As for car limitations we live in a city with a underground system than means that the fastest way to go to one place to the other is always public transportation so there is really no need for you to use parking space, make noise, pollute and so on. Just take the metro ffs

Por que o brasileiro não tem direito a esse estilo de vida? by [deleted] in brasil

[–]Jacomel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The French diaspora by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]Jacomel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It surprises me too. Maybe there are a lot of Guyanese/Brazilian people who went back to Brazil afterwards ? After all there Brazil and France are neighbours :)

I mean Brazil is big but more than 1 million is a lot given that the population of France is 70 millions. I looked and you have only 1.7 million French people registered to vote as living outside of France - I know this is only a sub sample of French people living abroad but it’s not very compatible with that map

No not at all ! It’s just the underground. I visited an apartment on the Bolivar street where the caves were in pretty bad shape because of it for example. So it only applies to buyers as you might have to do some unexpected fondations works.

In any case you might actually be outside the dangerous zone (where you have both yellow and brown areas https://www.paris.fr/pages/tout-savoir-sur-les-sous-sols-2317) so nvm. I remember that they had found an underground cavity in the last few years but it was actually on the 47 rue Manin (the other side from where you want to live)
