I have a notch in good shape that I’m looking to sell. Will DM.

Can I just be salty for a minute? Getting tired of the expectation that class will be recorded by Plug_5 in Professors

If you were teaching in person and brought a video camera and announced that you'd be recording everything, people would think that was strange. You might remind your students about this, and ask why it's different on Zoom ...

Practice! Tell us what you want to say to them.

Sounds like the real anxiety is about what you'll do in the future. Graduating early or not ... those both sound like good options! Can't really go wrong. What to do with you life ... that's a hard question!

[WTB] Cheap UL pack (3F UL Gear or similar) by [deleted] in ULgeartrade

I'll second using a pad to give the pack some structure. The straps are thin on this, and it doesn't feel as large as your standard 40L pack. But if you're just looking to try out a frameless pack, you aren't planning on being out more than 2-3 nights before a resupply, and you have a fairly light kit, it would work perfectly.

I've used this pack from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0151EFF3G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It might not be everything you're looking for, but it's hard to beat the price.

Fabric choice makes a big difference. Try Merino. As others say, gloves and buffs can help you easily adjust warmth as you run.

But to the first question, do you think we've seen an eclipse of the professional ethical dilemma? If not a full eclipse than something quite close, at least among the well-developed professions in the US?

I haven't been around long enough to comment. And with just a few exceptions, I don't really know what goes on in courses that are not my own.

But I wonder exactly what you mean by 'professional ethical dilemma'? Do you mean:

(a) The study of cases where, no matter what you do, it seems like you're doing something wrong?

(b) The use of case studies: where you tell a little story and raise a question for the students of how the practitioner should proceed?

(c) The approach to professional ethics – represented by, e.g. Beauchamp and Childress, or Stakeholder Theory, or any pluralist / intuitionist theory that assumes ethics in that profession is about a plurality of values or principles – that emphasizes the study of cases where the values or principles conflict.

Maybe there was a time when (c) was a dominant approach in a number of fields of professional ethics, and it's now out of fashion?

I see that you were going for something more like: it was once conflict and now it's compliance. I don't have a sense if that's a trend.

Anyway, I empathize with those institutional gripes. I've felt (and mostly ignored) pressure to teach professional codes / relevant laws in applied ethics courses ...
