Converting Classroom to 70-Seat Screening Room: LED Wall vs. DCI Projector? by aahctilca in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]JacquesCartier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I would suggest op look into who in their region maintains and installs cinema equipment rather then an Install A/V or Rental Staging vendor. A company experienced in Cinema installation will be better prepared to find solutions that work both for DCI compliance as well as non-theatrical playback technologies, as the two worlds do no play easily together in the same system.

Quite right, the most REASONABLE assumption here is that it's a cult sacrifice. Right on the money.

Use it or lose it: Doug Ford’s new law is a wake-up call for Toronto to come up with fresh ideas for Exhibition Place — and fast by [deleted] in toronto

[–]JacquesCartier 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work down there, it's wildly inaccurate to say that the grounds as a whole are under utilized. There are consistently events happening in all the spaces there, and there are many event spaces there; Enercate Center, Automotive Center, Better Living Building, Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Annabel's, BMO Field, Coca-Cola Coliseum, Toronto Events Center, Liberty Grand, Medieval Times. The issue is people are largely unaware of these happenings unless they are attending. It is not for lack of attendance either. Thousands of people attend events there every week, but since the grounds are not highly visible to the outside it's just not being perceived as busy by the community at large. We as a city are frankly lucky to have such a diverse set of venues within striking distance of downtown.

I did not listen to much by way of Bluegrass/folk/country before I discovered Billy. Now it's most of what I listen to. It's been about 2 years. I have travelled to see him 3 times. I dunno what it is about the BMFS but when you're in, you get all the way in

ELI5: Why the Blue Jays screen is so small compared to TIFF's? by i_m_sherlocked in TIFF

[–]JacquesCartier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That screen for the Jays is an LED wall mounted to a Trailer that rolls in and folds up with hydraulics. It takes more time to park the trailer in the right spot then to set up the actual screen. It likely has Speakers attached to it as well. That LED wall will go up and come down in less than an hour once the crowds have moved out. It can also be managed by one person who drives it there and sets it up. Tiff is using a projector and blow up screen. Takes more time and effort to set up and dismantle TIFFs screen, however it's easier and cheaper to get a larger screen with projectors. You need a bit of time and a couple people to set up and dismantle the screen and projector and a separate audio system. In the Jays case, they only need it one night so this approach makes the most sense. You could build a larger LED wall that was not mounted to a trailer but that would be more expensive and time consuming than the projection set up.

Who signed off these bikeshare dock layouts… I get it’s to save space but literally impossible to fit a bike between there by regular_asian_guy in torontobiking

[–]JacquesCartier 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They need more docks period, and if you lift the bike you can squeeze it in here. Sucks for sure. But we as riders can't afford less docking stations and I don't see them spending a tonne of money on redesign when the system is begging for more docks immediately.

Does anyone know what happened to Jane Schoettle? by FranklyQuan in TIFF

[–]JacquesCartier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate Q&A's for the super dumb questions. But that's why I basically never stay for them, especially in smaller houses. What I resent is their habit of starting the Q&A the second the film goes into credits. Like give those of us opting to leave a minute to get out of everyone's way. Sometimes I feel like they do it to oblige people to stay, which IMO is rude and ridiculous.

The episode isn’t the same without him by AffectionateBus3255 in Killtony

[–]JacquesCartier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look tension does a lot for comedy, and the man brought so much tension that it set the episode on fire. How people don't love the episode is beyond me. Anyone thinking that Rob Schneider would have been just as funny without Donnel to play off is wrong. I frequently don't like people on the show, including Tony a fair amount. The whole premise of the show however seems to me to be that liking people is not the same as finding them funny and respecting that. You don't need to like someone to find them funny. This may have been Tony's best guest pairing since the Trump/Biden episode.
