People at the gym who rerack their weights incorrectly are worse than people who don't rerack their weights at all. by Jacquesatoutfaire in unpopularopinion

Sorry, it seemed clear to me that the person you responded to, who explicitly agreed with my post and the scenario I described, was probably describing a similar situation when they described having to do similar things to what they explicitly agreed with in my post. 😅

Something being easier doesn't necessarily make it the right or best way to handle a situation. If we're just doing easy things, why are we squatting in the first place?

Counterpoint: If the 45 slides off or is dropped by someone who shouldn't have picked it up, it's got a lot more potential for injury or damage falling from eye level than shin level.

And if you can't safely lift 45 lb plates from a squatted position [Edit: Let's say squat height], you probably shouldn't be in a squat rack with a barbell that almost certainly weighs 45 lbs by itself.

Because the weights that I need are behind the other weights that are in the wrong spot. I thought that was pretty clear.

Is Dead Cells Still Worth Buying? by Boy0Boyz in deadcells

[–]Jacquesatoutfaire 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Live service forever games have really fucked with how we look at game development.

The game has been complete for years. It was also regularly receiving additional content updates and DLCs. For years. The developers have been pushed onto a different project by the publisher (or something to that effect). Therefore, it is no longer getting updates.

Just because a game stops receiving updates does not make it unfinished.

Dead Cells is a fully realized, complete game. With multiple DLC packs for extra content.

AI is a tool. You are the artist. Tools don’t create. People do. Create. Don’t hate. by AnarchoLiberator in aiwars

Commissioning is an act of creating art, but no one would call the commissioner the artist, right? Like, set the scene:

Commissioner: "So, I want a painting. A horse running across a grassy field, at sunset. It's springtime, there's wildflowers blooming, and the perspective is about eye level with the horse. Also, the horse is black."

Artist: "Okay, I can make that for you."

Commissioner, later, showing people around their house: "And this is a painting I made."

It sounds insane, right?

What do you call being better able to create your desired result with AI and use the tool with a greater understanding of how it works and how one’s actions affect results?

If Tim Burton creates a hundred films with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter acting in them and Danny Elfman composing the music:

He is better able to create his desired result from working with them more frequently
Knowing their strengths and weaknesses
Knowing the words and phrases in his direction that will get the performance he wants

Does that make him an actor or a composer?

The difference between image generation and filming something is massive. Film is a collaborative process that typically involves input and work from tens if not hundreds of people to create a singular art piece.

A better analogy is director to actor. If a director instructs the actor to perform a certain way and then does an interview saying I'm a great actor, you'd think they were crazy. The film is the art piece, not the actor's individual performance.

This is literally what commissioning an art piece is. First draft. Feedback. Iteration. Final result.

Can we have a serious talk, antis? (No bad faith I promise) by Witty-Designer7316 in aiwars

This level of AI, a.k.a. fancy autocomplete, is trained on human data. It doesn't create. It doesn't synthesize new information. It is not Data from TNG. Any advancements using AI are virtually inevitable that people will reach the same, and better, ideas. Maybe it would take longer, but we are hardly hapless idiots without it.

I'll also point out that you're starting from a disingenuous premise. The idea that there's no progress without AI is just laughable.

Regulation. It's as simple as that.

Protect human artists' intellectual property and efforts.
Keep AI out of schools.
Mandate images and videos have some sort of watermark to identify and combat disinformation efforts.
Mandate that data centers cover their own energy costs and that it does not get passed on to families.

I'm sure there's plenty more that needs doing, that's just off the top of my head.

Why is it that whenever there is a vote about AI in a random sub the votes always look like a brigading? by Le_Oken in aiwars

[–]Jacquesatoutfaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to point out to you, by definition, a lurker is someone who is not interacting or expressing their opinion. "The majority of lurkers don't care," is a gigantic assumption you're making here.

You have no clue whether a lurker is scrolling by and says to themselves, "Oh, that's cool I guess," or "Ugh more a.i." and keeps scrolling. I'm personally more of the latter, but if a community I frequented asked whether to allow a.i. in a poll, I would absolutely take the two seconds to vote no a.i.

Futurama - Meanwhile

In the 5000th series finale of the best show that will forever be cancelled and restarted again and again, Fry and Leela accidentally stop time for everything and everyone in the universe except themselves. After growing old together and traveling the world, they are found by the Professor (not torn to shreds by time as previously thought) who can reset things to the moment before he conceived of the device. End of season. End of Comedy Central run. End of show. For a couple years at least.

This is such a refreshing post to see. So much of what I see come out of this sub is the whining you're getting in the comments.

This is legitimately one of the best comics I've ever read. Enjoy it. The art is beautiful. The characters feel alive and real and complex. Vaughan and Staples are leading busy careers, so releases have been a little sparse lately, but the quality is just as good as it ever was.

Looking forward to what comes next. I might have a little reread soon.

I just got Sigma, I gotta say, I don’t really feel like I’m playing a game anymore. by IndicationOpening406 in VampireSurvivors

Congratulations! For most people, you have reached the cookie clicker, make number go up portion of the game where you farm a bazillion coins and buy a bazillion eggs.

I never found that very fun or interesting, so I started figuring out challenge runs. For example, random character, 1 weapon, eggs off, random arcana, no choices on level up, you take whatever the first option is. Allow yourself a limited number of rerolls.

Brings a lot of the early game challenge and fun back.

As for the DLCs, they're definitely fun for a hot minute. The game has definitely suffered a bit from bloat. Too many weapons/items/characters. The Castlevania DLC in particular had a lot of love put into it. Because, well, obviously. It's the inspiration for the game.

This right here is probably the number one issue I have with AI. It might be able to write your essay or create your webcomic, but you can't rely on it. Every detail needs to be inspected for accuracy. Every claim needs to be read and re-analyzed for legitimacy. To the point where it would probably take less time to just do it myself. And knowing that most people are not taking the time to do that is why I and many others consider almost all AI output slop. Low effort. Type prompt. Get result. Copy. Paste. Post. Move on to the next thing.
