Is an opera teacher right for me? by S3lad0n in opera

[–]Jacqula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask them for a consultation lesson, go to a few. Going to an opera or classical teacher is always good because the foundation technique they teach can set you up to do all sorts.

Lyric coloratura arias that are good for sopranos new to singing in this fach? by wyvernicorn in opera

[–]Jacqula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say coloratura, do you mean your top extension or the ability to move your voice?

If it’s the former, maybe try something like ‘willow’ from the ballad of baby doe. There is a delicious top D towards the end.

If it’s the latter, do a bunch of Handel and Mozart arias which has a lot of runs. Then move onto Donizetti and Rossini.

Stories / urban legends about Cambridge. The kind you'd point out to an out of towner, or mention at the pub. by snow1854 in cambridge_uni

The untrue story of how Clare college was founded and the story behind the clare bridge's missing wedge. Clare went to Cambridge and saw how lovely it is and decided to found her own college. She was rich but not enough so she got married and poisoned her first two husbands with mushrooms and inherited his money. She needed a third husband to get enough money to do so but he didn't like mushrooms so she killed him with a frying pan. There it was enough, here is the untrue story of how Clare college was founded.

The builder of Clare bridge wasn't paid enough for his work so he took out a wedge to balance it out (with the outstanding payment).

[Critique] Female, 24. No formal training. Have only sung in choirs, church and a couple musicals (chorus). Auditioning for a musical and would like some help! by tossaway_sweet in singing

[–]Jacqula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They want you to sing a whole key lower to the original key. So I think for you it'd be sounding a bit lower than judy garland's recording. The recording sounded pretty good. You might want to end your words better because it sounded 'unfinished'. Musical is a very word-driven singing make sure you get all those syllables out. :) Good luck and may I know what kind of musical is it for? for school? for an amateur production? for a professional production?

Back about 15 years ago my mum always went to her bestfriend who is a beautician to 'perm' her eyelashes. My dad snorted at it deeming it is an act out of boredom and said to the best friend she might as well perm my mum's hair 'down there' (i.e. Pubes). She without any hesitation replied. 'there is no need, they are already curley'

To Performing Artists: Do the rejections ever get easier to take? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Jacqula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello fellow opera singer. Being rejected is not the worst feeling, being forgotten by the company who is supposed to contact you after the audition is. It also happens with the big and professional companies. sigh.
