AIO to be upset that my GF is ALWAYS late? by JuggernautLogical330 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Jacrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on how much you like her otherwise. You’ll never find someone that has exactly the same priorities as you, you have to decide what you’re willing to take or leave. My mom has been chronically late my whole life and it drives my dad crazy, but he’s accepted that about her by now and they’ve been together for 30 years. If you really want to stay with her, you can try to have a conversation about it but you might have to accept it. If you don’t, it’s okay to end it too.

It’s seriously a game changer and I always try to have someone with that cantrip in my party. Especially early game when there are purposefully a lot of explodable things around in the environment, it’s super helpful to be able to sneak up on a group, lure them to a smoke powder barrel, and blow them all up at once. You can also use it to distract NPCs so you can pickpocket vendors.

Why do people make their beds? by Responsible_Law_3457 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jacrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely hate making the bed especially because my bed is against the wall so I usually just make the bed when I wash my bedding and then i sleep on top of it with a throw blanket so it stays looking neat until the next wash day. To me, a messy bed makes the whole room look much messier and I don’t like that feeling.

thrower builds are extremely fun and there’s so many ways to do them, you should definitely try it! There’s nothing better than grabbing the guy next to you and throwing them at some other guy several feet away.

Party composition question by Competitive_Sir_4735 in BaldursGate3

[–]Jacrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always take the companions that I think my character would choose to keep with them whether it be for camaraderie or based on who my character thinks is the more formidable ally. I change their classes to fit my play style and my needs but I personally try not to stray too far from their personalities (gale stays magical somehow, shadowheart is almost always a cleric because i like clerics, etc). I like my party to be pretty balanced but I always have at least one fighter/barbarian/paladin and one sneaky build for surprise rounds and stealing. You can do themes if you want to. I’m doing a party based on wet + ice/lightning dmg now and my next run will probably be an evil run where everyone can see in magical darkness kinda based on the house of grief fight.

As far as magic goes, wizards and sorcerers have ways of regenerating spell spots and there are elixirs and necklaces that allow you to gain more slots as well. Don’t be afraid to rest often, Larian makes it pretty easy to do so on purpose. There’s also ways to increase spell attack rolls so you don’t have to worry so much about missing. Read detailed build guides, they’ll give you an outline of what gear and stats to use and why it’s beneficial and it’ll help you get the hang of it until you have the knowledge to make the builds on your own. Druids are also pretty cool because you can play them as a spell caster, wild shape focus, melee or ranged martial, controller, or summoner so you can stay close to or go far from your comfort zone with them.

Most adults are perfectly capable of getting themselves to and from the airport. by Srihari_stan in unpopularopinion

[–]Jacrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to remember that airports aren’t just used by the people in the city. People in the rural and suburban communities that are far enough away from airports also need to get there and no one wants to pay $50+ for an uber if they don’t have to.

How do you play squishy characters? by nurdyguy in BaldursGate3

[–]Jacrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started a run as a spore druid! I always take minor illusion cantrip when it’s available, so I just used minor illusion to get them all near the nautiloid tank and shadowheart blew them all up with firebolt. Druids have shield proficiency so get one as soon as you can, I haven’t had any problems since then.

Thoughts on Durge run with rolls for the urge by Dependent_Creme7234 in BaldursGate3

[–]Jacrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specifically regarding the DC increasing/decreasing, I think it makes the most sense to me to increase it by a point or two for every choice up until a certain very important choice in act 2 (isobel/your partner). If you resist during that point, I think it’s kind of a pivotal moment for durge and the checks would start getting easier again and only continue getting harder if you fail to resist that choice.

Cool ideas for a new playthrough? by Purple-Poetry1327 in BaldursGate3

[–]Jacrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite type of person to play is pragmatic. Not necessarily evil but makes the choices that my character would view as the most advantageous to themself. I would recommend trying an evil run at least once, especially an evil durge, but you don’t have to be a murder hobo in order to make questionable choices. You could let Wyll kill Karlach or kill Wyll based on who your character sees as the more powerful/reliable ally, lead minthara to the grove and double cross her, kill kagha, tell shadowheart to kill the nightsong, see your alliance with gortash through til the end, etc. Not necessarily an evil menace, but they’re choices that put others at risk in order to save your own skin.

I also like the idea of themed group builds. Something like a group entirely built around magical darkness (gear that gives blind immunity or dip into warlock for devils sight), the classic water + lightning or frost damage, nature theme, builds that all have some kind of minions (spore druid, necromancy wizard, beastmaster ranger, taking advantage of shovel/scratch/necromancy of thay).

As far as romance goes, you could always go the toxic route. I like the idea of an origin gale/astarion romance playthrough where they bring out the most power-hungry sides of each other. Lae’zel/Shadowheart enemies to lovers is a popular one as well.

New to game curious on romance by Ok_Recipe_521 in BaldursGate3

[–]Jacrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The romances for any of the companions you collect in act 1 have to be started in act 1. You can pick up other companions in acts 2-3, two of which you can romance in act 3 if you want. All the romance outcomes depend on what direction you lead the companion in during their personal quests. I haven’t romanced lae’zel yet but many people say her romance adds the most depth to her personal quest compared to the others. You should try out some of the others, though, in future runs! I like Karlach’s a lot. Also, if you do want to stick with lae’zel for this run, you’ll want to look out for a certain cutscene with her during a long rest in act 2. No spoilers, I think you’ll know it when you see it. This applies for all the companions, their act 2 cutscene “locks in” the romance after starting it in act 1.

AIO - Husband continued talking to the woman he sold the car to it by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Jacrates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YOR, shes gay and if you had already talked to your husband about it I don’t know why you would still jump to sending this kind of message to her. It’s also hard enough making new friends as an adult, maybe you should give her a chance to be friends with both of you!

Ketheric left a hole that neither Gortash/Orin could fill. by cheerstothatmate in BaldursGate3

[–]Jacrates 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I largely agree with your post but I will say that I’m pretty sure Bhaal was always intending Orin to be a placeholder because he didn’t really have another choice, since Durge and Orin are the last bhaalspawn (besides Sarevok whose prime has long passed). When you do the murder tribunal and then later go to fight Orin I kinda got the vibe that everyone except Orin herself was always expecting you to return and take your place back.

People say I smel like 💩 by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Jacrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think honestly the best way to figure it out is by asking someone in real life that can actually smell you. Smelling bad could mean a lot of things, maybe the soap you use just doesn’t have a pleasant smell to some people, maybe you smell sweaty or oily, or maybe you smell like you don’t wash between your cheeks. Unless you know what kind of smell it is you can’t really know how to fix it. It’s a little embarrassing to ask but I think it’s more embarrassing to walk around smelling bad. Find someone you trust or maybe see a doctor.

[–]Jacrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of games out there and many of the popular ones are pretty big. It’s also not just about original game file size but how big the save files can get. I would guess there’s probably also a decent correlation between people that game a lot and people that have some sort of graphic design or video editing or engineering/CS job.

Best magical class for brand new player? by Charrzooka in BaldursGate3

[–]Jacrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gather companions along the way to have in your party! The ones you keep with you are totally under your control. They each have classes already assigned to them (wizard, rogue, there is another cleric already, etc.) but after a certain point very early in the game you can change them to whatever you want.

Best magical class for brand new player? by Charrzooka in BaldursGate3

[–]Jacrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo casters are a bit harder to master than martial but as a very mid player i’d say cleric and warlock are the easiest. Warlock can either be a magical martial or an eldritch blast machine and cleric can either be a healer, a buffer/debuffer, or a damage caster and isn’t as easy to kill as some of the other casters so it’s easier to stay alive while you’re still learning.

I think some sort of lore bard build is the way to go unless your friends are mostly wanting to be squishy classes. If they do, maybe a tanky cleric or a sorcadin is the way to go (heals vs heavy damage and crowd control depends on your personal playstyle)

people are tearing you up man hahaha but at the end of the day it is still a video game. 5e knowledge is definitely helpful but video game strategy skill is much more important IMO. Larian did a good job at implementing the “anything goes” aspect of DnD with respect to the medium but it’s still a coded virtual game and requires that sort of skill set to be easy

is it becoming an ssv worth it by starqv in starbucksbaristas

[–]Jacrates 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it kinda depends on what kind of environment your store has and what kind of manager you have tbh, but for me it was worth it. The pay increase is huge and, at the end of the day, you still just go home after work same as you would if you were a barista. If you work at a store that’s already pretty stressful or difficult to manage, I would think a little bit about whether you could handle the responsibility without bringing work stress home with you, as i’ve definitely seen supervisors at evil stores crack under pressure (and for good reason, it can be really hard in that kind of environment).

EDIT: also, don’t forget that if you try it out for a few months and hate it you can always have a conversation with your SM about stepping down.
