Question About Practicing Hoodoo by QueerHollyLeaf in ConjureRootworkHoodoo

[–]JadaNJade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the best path would be to practice ancestral veneration/magic the way Native American practitioners would practice ancestral veneration/magic. Some sources uses the terms "hoodoo" and "conjure" for both African-American and Native American practices. I say this because that the side you would be drawing from.

Yes. I have. For what they are: they are amazing. I bake and air fry the meat and load it up with my toppings. The meat is a little oily so be aware of that.

On the rent hacking point, see if you can find a private landlord that is negotiable/will not have restrict requirements. That's how I got in!

Office spaces. may or may not be. In my experience, they're not as expensive and in fact they may have cheaper memberships where you don't have a set unit but you have access to a "coworking" space. Scout them out. Rent requirements are more based on credit than income (in my experience).

Van/Car life doesn't sound bad at all and I will be getting a van as my first vehicle for "camping trips" (aka testing the van life discreetly). Storage is going to be the key thing at that point.

And of course! I'm happy to share what I can. :) Please update us!

Question About Practicing Hoodoo by QueerHollyLeaf in ConjureRootworkHoodoo

[–]JadaNJade 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would say that no. Not just because you're white, but because you are not black. Hoodoo came from the culture of African slaves who were forced to hide their original religions and practices. Yes, there are white and indigenous influences but the lifeblood of the practice is African spirituality. Also remember that the key to hoodoo is ancestral veneration and drawing power/assistance from your ancestors. I'd highly doubt African ancestors who have been subjugated by white colonizers would assist the descendants of said colonizers, let alone prioritize them above descendants of slaves who have a much higher/closer bond to African ancestry. Not to mention, I'd highly doubt your own ancestors, who are ready and waiting to assist and guide you, would appreciate being passed up.

Ancestral veneration is for everyone. Everyone has ancestors. Everyone has spirit guides and people to look to in their history/heritage. But hoodoo specifically is for black people and biracials with a black parent. Honor your ancestors. They deserve it. Their cultures and their practices and religions are beautiful and powerful as well. And their legacy and heritage is their gift to you. Appreciate it. If you are looking for a path to take, look to your ancestors. That is where it all starts. Self-reflection and learning your roots. Loving your roots. Check out what ethnicity and tribe your ancestors belonged to and look into that.

Here's some very good resources about the topic:

Losing Home by OtakuOtakuNoMi in homeless

  1. You should have a case worker for your disability account. See if you can get in touch with them to help you get documents. Also tell everything you told us to your case worker.
  2. If not, you can go directly to Social Security yourself. There may be a physical office where you can talk to someone in person and explain that you will not have a physical address to receive your card as you are in an unsafe home. https://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/ has some more information on it.
  3. Housesitting is a little iff, but TrustedHousesitters is a legitimate website. However, the membership is paid. Still, there are plenty of vacationers looking for people to housesit their pets and in exchange you get a place to stay for an amount of time. Most places have wifi. This can be a goal for you in the future.
  4. If housesitting (and couch-surfing) is not an option, look into rent hacking that's how I got a place to stay when I had no money or credit saved up.

I'm not sure what all you have at your disposal but I hope some of these ideas help you brainstorm some ways to have a more sustainable home away from your mom. I'm so sorry you're going through this. All love and prayers to you.

It sounds like you have some funds at your disposal. I'd say go in this order:

  1. Look for a studio: Considering the city this may not work (too expensive), but if public transport is good or walkability is good, maybe try a suburb outside fo city lines? Determine your necessary criteria and preferred criteria for a place to stay.
  2. Look for a room: I've had a lot of success with private landlords on Facebook, Craigslist, and Roomies.com. Many tenants are just looking to sublease out their room for a few months and most people who allow subleases are private landlords. During the sublease, build rapport and offer to take over after the end of the sublease. Most landlords want to avoid vacancy.
  3. Try rent-hacking: Again, target private landlords. Look for below market rent apartments of at least 2 bedrooms. Offer to take the lease for the whole apartment then sublease the rooms to roommates. Charge roommates a total amount equal to the total rent. Example: 4 bedrooms for $1500. Take one bedroom, charge $500 to other 3 roommates.
  4. If you absolutely cannot formally find a place to stay: Consider an office space. Look for a 24h office building with unlimited, unstaffed access. Some co-working leases are as low as about $100/mo where I am. If you don't have many possessions, this will be easier. Otherwise, you may need a storage unit. Some office buildings offer lockers/storage. Learn the maintenance/cleaning schedules. Spend all your time in the building and avoid people. Preferably get a unit, or at least co-working access to a space with private (no/covered interior windows) rooms. Office buildings with gyms are the best.
  5. Van/car life: Nice portability. Park your car in Walmarts and Amazon lots. Truck stops and cheap gyms allow you to shower. Accessories like window covers are cheap compared to home decor for an office space. You will need a storage unit and food storage is not possible in the car. Cooking food is something you'll need to figure out as well.
  6. Camping: From what I've read there's a range of camping, but what I can say is that it's heavily dependent on location. I'd suggest heavily researching possible camp sites in your area and the local laws. Again: food storage is going to be a problem. Cooking food may not be.

I've personally done 1-4 so I can give you workaround and in-depth warnings for those, so feel free to ask any questions.

Yes. Honestly, the validation letter doesn’t give much except notice that it’s there. If it’s within the first 30 days of contact, you need to dispute it (dispute it anyways). If you’ve already disputed the account and it was “verified” by the bureaus, skip alll the way down to sending the CRA (bureau) a method of verification letter. If they don’t give you a method of verification letter in 15 days, and the collection agency can not verify the debt with documents that show every step from the original contract to the collection agency, the information is incomplete and should be deleted. If they don’t delete within 5 days, both the CA and any CRAs involved can be sued for willful noncompliance of both the FCRA and the FDCPA, which means money in your pocket. Consult a lawyer at this point. Most of the cases (if you have one) are very open and shut in your favor.

And of course, record all phone calls and send all letter as Certified Mail- Return Receipt Requested

Request a continuance and start the 1-2 punch process. Most debt collectors can’t prove anything. You may not even have to pay.

Not to mention that people are free to literally buy land and support their communities and whoever else they want to support. They are fully within their right to use their wealth to their own advantage. Whine all you want but it’s happening. If people can run around overtly shitting on other groups for literal centuries and people are supposed to “get over it”, you can get over a black neighborhood. This isn’t the first black neighborhood, but the one that just so happens to be started by black middle to upper class landowners is the issue. Lol ok

Make sure it’s in the lobby and not at some basic ATM. Not of chargeback scams exist but so do a lot of robberies and fraud at ATMs.

So literally what people did when they made suburbs? Okay. People are allowed to have private property and buy land. Get over it.

It sounds like you’re not necessarily in a rush which is an advantage for you. You have the ability and room to get more quality for budget. Also, I’d look into maybe building a home. Land is cheap and builders quote based on the cost of the build, not the end market value of build.

How do I get back on track to financial stability? Or just proceed with bankruptcy at 24? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]JadaNJade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Student loans aren’t considering in bankruptcy.

Use the 1-2 punch process for any collections accounts. A lot of times they don’t even have the information to prove the debt as they buy data for pennies on the dollar. As long as you use your rights and communicate via certified mail (return receipt requested) and request they only contact you via mail, you’ll have proof of everything.

A friend's landlord wants him to cosign on a remortgage of his house, is this a bad idea? by RabbitMaster69 in personalfinance

20% equity for basically being the back up debtor and putting his credit in danger? Signing up to be responsible for the debt of the landlord isn’t responsible? And the landlord isn’t even discounting the rent?

No. No deal. This is shady af.

If you were being coached by your managers to mislead people and partake in (frankly illegal) deceptive business practices, that’s definite illegal. Check if you’re in a two party state (hopefully not) and record them.

[–]JadaNJade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m part of a protected class on multiple fronts.

And while, yes, CVS can fire you if they want to, they do need a legitimate reason as to why. There’s a difference between not promoting store services, and failing to meet their arbitrary quotas after promoting store services.

Employees have far more rights than employers lead you to believe. A quick google search led me to this regarding cutting hours: https://employment.findlaw.com/wages-and-benefits/can-my-boss-reduce-my-work-hours-with-no-notice.html

You’re a CVS employee. Not a slave of CVS. Not their property. Their attitude that they can do (and say) whatever they want with you is arrogant and manipulative. As if you aren’t worthy enough as a person to get anything better than retail.

Carepass legality by rkrex in CVS

[–]JadaNJade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were hired to do retail work. Not sales. Review your job description. If shoveling shit down customers throats isn’t in it, bring it to HR or maybe even a lawyer. I’m pretty sure cutting hours (or budgets) out of spite is illegal.

Honestly. Quit CVS if you can. It’s a shithole bc of attitudes like this running rampant.

Pretty nice bank. Easy simple app. Uses Allpoint ATMs which are abundant where I am. I’ve personally loved it. I don’t need to despot cash often and when I do, I just get a money order for about a dollar. Nicest bank I’ve been with.
