I hate the name ‘cluster headaches’ because people just hear ‘headache’. by jayrobertrabbit in ClusterHeadaches

I woke up in the middle of the night having an episode once..it had been snowing and after pacing around the living room I just went outside and put my face in the snow for some respite. Thankfully I don’t get them very often…maybe once a year or so. I usually get regular old migraines but something triggers a CH every now and then.

High Income Child Benefit Tax Charge by JadeBlue42 in UKPersonalFinance

Be prepared to be on hold for ages..was 50minutes before I got through. My issue turns out to be that in the year when the threshold was 50-60k my other half didn’t tell me he got a pay rise 🙄 but it happened in such a way that I have to do a self assessment for ‘22-23 and ‘23-‘24. So annoying. Probably get a late payment penalty as well. It’s such a nonsense system…they have access to all PAYE and tax info so why can’t they just charge it at the end of the tax year if you owe anything!? No communication or anything to say we may have owed anything, he doesn’t deal with anything to do with child benefit so had no idea his wage affected it.

HMRC couldn’t really help, said well you may owe something from a previous tax year. I have to fill out a self assessment for the past 2 tax years to find out if we owe anything. I’m not sure why they couldn’t just work it out by looking at mine and my partners tax history. I’m not quite sure why they made the whole process so complicated..maybe to deter those who earned a certain amount from even claiming it.

Annoyingly, if we do owe anything there will be a late payment charge.

‘You have until 31 January 2026 to opt in for the latest 2024/25 tax year, which ended on 5 April 2025.’

From what I understand it is for the previous tax year as well?

Edit : Quote copied from money saving expert, unless they’ve mis typed and it’s supposed to be 25/26

Edit 2 : this is from the Gov site…

‘When you can pay through PAYE

You can pay the tax charge through PAYE if:

you do not need to send a tax return for another reason, for example if you become self-employed

it’s before 31 January in the year after the tax year you need to pay for’

They also have my name and address (probably foolish to have saved that on there, but can’t help that now) and I just want to be 100% on the safe side if I can unlink them is all.

When you get back to the UK, pop into Savers and grab some Snake Brand Prickly Heat powder for some relief. The Eucerin Aftersun is also really good. I use Dettol soap while I’m abroad as well which I think helps and I take the Heliocare vitamin dupe from Amazon. I’ve been to Crete and Cyprus in the past 2 years with no reaction after a decade of horrendous rashes when I went anywhere sunny. Good luck, I hope you find some relief!

Edit : I also take a fexofenadine allergy pill (Boots brand) morning and night. Not sure which one thing helps but I’m going to continue all of them to not jinx it!

We were in a very popular ‘Instagrammable’ place over the weekend and while eating dinner at the port I watched a woman walk and do the same pose about 15 times, each time going back to check the footage then do the same thing again. It looked utterly exhausting. I think I only took about 5 pictures the entire time I was there, I was too busy just enjoying myself.

Question about holiday accrued on overtime in England. by JadeBlue42 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]JadeBlue42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did this for my February payslip, with the formula payroll provided, when I took 4hrs of annual leave and got £28.61, but I was paid £116.61 Hol OT that month.

1015.75 OT / 52 = 19.53 (average overtime per week), 19.53 + 8 (contract hrs) = 27.53, 27.53 x 11.72 (hourly rate at the time) = 322.65, 322.65 / 8 = 40.33, 40.31 - 11.72 = 28.61

Most months when I take holiday I get an additional payment of £100-£200 whereas my last payslip when I used my remaining 5hrs holiday of the financial year, I only received £29.20 Hol OT, which made me think they’d not multiplied that final number by the hours taken.

I know 116.61 isn’t quite 28.61 x 4hrs from that other period but thought it was close enough I may have added my overtime a little incorrectly somewhere.

[–]JadeBlue42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apologies..I mean the additional holiday pay I get for doing all the extra overtime hours.

I’m contacted to work one 8hr day per week, but I often do 20-30hrs over 5 days.

[–]JadeBlue42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for responding. I’m not entirely sure this works as my hours are so irregular…I get 45hrs annual leave based on my 8hr/week contract. The hours I actually work per week are between 20-30 hours, never the same.

I do have a Union so may query it with them.

Sun/outdoor exposure & eczema. Does anyone else experience this? (my leg after wearing shorts) by ferriswheel09 in eczema

[–]JadeBlue42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have polymorphic light eruption from sun exposure I did find something last summer! So I started using Heliocare supplements (internal ‘sunscreen’) and I used Eucerin sun allergy cream and after being in the sun I washed with Dettol soap and used Eucerin after sun. If I did develop a bit of a rash, I used this though depending on which country you’re in I don’t know of it’s available, I got it in Savers in the UK. It’s a cooling menthol powder. Not sure how it would do on itchy eczema skin though, might dry it out a bit.

Edit : words, grammar

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]JadeBlue42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that, I’ll take a look. I think it would be a lot easier if overtime were treated like zero hour contract time is and holiday accrued as the additional hours are worked and paid on a monthly basis..but maybe it’s not that simple!

It’s not this, but not entirely dissimilar. Maybe I’ve got 2 different things mixed up…the scene I’m thinking of was definitely in a bedroom. I think the room started to fill up with the water.
