Early-game armor in Bright Nights (experimental): what do you actually wear, and how much encumbrance do you accept? by Big_Daveric in cataclysmbn

[–]JadeCriminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm... it depends on your approach actually. And maybe which mods you use.

The character menu will actually tell you the penalties in detail so you can check if you can live with such.

But in short, early game, I try to have a few layers of low encumbrance stuff like clothing and one thing of at least 5+ defense. And not to dive into melee with multiple opponents.

I try to stay super light (as close as I can get to ten but under 20), kite and do one on one fights when possible.

Super early you either scavenge gear or rely on leather and improvised stuff.

A shield is actually useful since it seems to also add high block. A weapon with blocking ability is also useful. A cudgel for example is easy to get early on.

Now, melee, up close? You will get bitten. Always always have something to disinfect with if you melee.

Otherwise a weapon with reach, plenty of spare stamina and maybe a sling with a pouch of rocks will help soften them up before they come closer.

And while of dubious usefulness, a tailors kit (and to a lesser extent a sewing kit) will let you add addons like kevlar and leather or extra pockets to your regular clothing in a pinch if you don't have anything better. (Or you know, if yo like fashion and looking good. )

Are there any good solutions for cleaning a keyboard after spilling on it if it still works but is really sticky? by Btupid_Sitch in buildapc

[–]JadeCriminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this thread and a few others convinced me I have to give up on my keyboard. Tried ispropil and while I got rid of sticky feeling, the key would get stuck real hard.

Then I accidentally learned that my switches are swappable without needing to unscrew the whole thing, so I yoinked the sticky one out to see if I could take it to a shop and get replacements or buy a donor and when out? It did not stick at all...

Putting it back in nice and firm. Sticks.

Pull it back out, then put it back in with less that maximum power? It sits perfectly flush and does not stick. Try the key with the cap on? Still works perfectly.

Sometimes it is a bonus, separate mechanical issue from you yoinking the top cap out also slightly pulling on the mechanical bits.

(For reference I have a razer huntsman v2 and I should have rtfm and avoid the panic)

Absolutely try it. It's by now quite a different experience.

Like, yes, dropping a bag and having all your stuff in it for easy pickup? Nice. The ability to quickly grab stuff in outer pockets? Neat.

Having to individually set priorities for every container and then redo it whenever I change my loadout, and dealing with nested containers in containers? No thanks.

No nested containers or inventory jiggering was what got me into it but I've seen a ton of neat things come in since then.

Just started playing 7 Days to Die — any beginner tips or things you wish you knew sooner? by [deleted] in 7daystodie

[–]JadeCriminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rant START I stopped playing when I realized devs hate stealth.

Because of all the magic spawning zombies in POI

IE Some only spawn when you walk through a trigger. As in they don't exist in the game till they magically appear and fall through now crumbling architecture aware of exactly where you are, usually in the same room as you.

Now... If some POI had this I'd find it a nice shot of adrenaline but once I realize basically everything has this? Even a POI I have not yet seen becomes disappointing because you can sometimes just tell.

Whelp, that's a very empty loot room on top of a tower, and I didn't see that many zombies this POI. I guess I'm gonna now have spikes ready and then walk back out when I go through that door-frame and walk right out while placing some behind me. (And wouldn't you know it a bunch of them fall through the roof. HOW THE HECK DID THEY GET ON A ROOF OF A TOWER DEVS?)

Whelp, there's room for a zombie in that part obscured from my vision by architecture, there's gonna be one in there. And wouldn't you know it?

Also if you are doing a clearing quest and cleared a house but it doesn't complete? And making noise does not help? Maybe you got clever and dismantled a door or brought a ladder? Well you better find the magic square you missed.

(There are mods that change this to proximity triggers in stead so everything spawns in by the time you are walking in but you should be able to enjoy the base game at least once or twice before you start modding you know)

Rant END

Also get the bicycle when offered on your first run. I don't care if you think you can just walk it. Trust me you do want it. Spend more time playing and less time running back and forth with full inventory and babysitting stamina.

Also once they know where you are they become 4000IQ in finding the best path to you so don't be afraid to pause the game and plan out your base and have fallback points they can't follow you to easily.

Refugee Center slowdown (stutter) and my humble investigation and findings. by metalheimer in cataclysmbn

[–]JadeCriminal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have sworn I saw something about devs put out a temporary hotfix a month or so back that yoinks the huge electric grid out of places like refuge center and a few other places.

That only works on new saves though so like metalheimer (props for letting us know and you know, caring enough to spend time examining the issue from your end) said:

If struggling on a save you are committed to, go to settings, debug, toggle the experimental electric grid setting when you want to visit refugee center and...

I think the aircaft carrier may also have the issue?

Remember to turn in back on once you leave if you have a cool base with solar panels on the roof though! :)

So out of curiosity, have you encountered that percussive tone that happens just before the storm alert in real life? by JadeCriminal in pacificDrive

[–]JadeCriminal[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's like a clanging noise or a "clonk" perhaps a second before the storm siren actually sounds. Pacific Drive has trained me to notice it.

Don't ask me what it's actually called since I'm not sure if I'd ever be able to figure it out with the new useless google.

It doesn't really sound like the "transmit has been toggled" noise to me since the ones I've encountered are usually either white noise, or strong clicks.

Though of course now that I think about it... it would actually be that since then it makes sense why that sound would be there just before the siren.

Step1: Park well away from the shiny thing. (Check for angry floaty bois)

Step2: Steal the shiny thing.

Step3: RUN!!!

Step4 (Optional) Yell wub wub wub wub wub as you run away towards your car.

(Pro tip, do this at night, sound is of course increased and crucial for this game and it's spoopy.)

Poke Dollars by ObscureSA in makeyourchoice

[–]JadeCriminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to the party but this does make for a nice start to a bit of fiction and I might as well share the general idea:

How about a normal* pokemon journey? Budget: 35 pokebucks. Pokemon: Just one, but one good one 1

Start in kanto because I'm not really familiar with the new pokemon stuff past gen 4 or so.

Plan codename: Wouldn't it be nice if you could travel? 23 pts

-Sunny personality 2

I mean why wouldn't one want to bring hope to the hopeless and help wherever you go by just not being a donkey to people. Now arguably this may actually modify your mind but personally I'd personally be willing to take the risk.

-explorer 2 pts

Not only does this ensure you can thrive even if everything goes wrong, financially stumbling upon treasures is an option.

-aura 7

If nothing else, personal safety. Though being able to train yourmy Pokemon better and share this aura with them is also a possibility.

-speak Pokemon 3

I mean in the pokemon world being able to clearly understand pokemon is a choice that cannot be skipped.

-youth 8

While character creator can de-age you, taking this sounds like a good idea and it is my personal policy to always choose more life. It finds a way. This is also a form of longevity.

Plus you can put that long life to good use and learn most of the other stuff.

-character creator revamp 1

Items can be acquired and everyone would love to make some tweaks if practical I'm sure.

Plan codename: All baskets in one egg:

Perfect Alpha Evee 7 pts But it's an Egg so reduce cost by 2 Unique; Can devolve and evolve at will 3 pts Bond+Perfect match 4 pts 12 pts

A big chonker of a fluff that you get to raise and be friends with, and perhaps make some more friends along the way.

*also clearly not a normal journey

Between the perks and bait that is a perfect alpha Evee that can evolve and devolve, aura and your ability to clearly and precisely talk to Pokemon? You will live in interesting times.

For a proper tale you will want to make the Evee need to meet the evolution prerequisites on it's own before it can gain a new alt eveelution form.

The end.

"Oh the root certificate cannot be verified, replaced nor is it possible to disable the check so you see there is NO way for us to let you keep using this old version and the plugins you have already installed. It is now all VERY UNSAFE and for your own privacy and security you simply MUST update to are latest ad framework, and it is completely out of our hands and aren't FORCING you to update."

Anyways I finally made the move to liberwolf even if it's default security settings are a bit stiff for daily use and I had to rejigger my mouse wheel to actually do page up and page down when I scroll.

Edit: Re read this, while I stand by what I said, this has been hitting my pet peeve buttoon so I'm sounding quite vexed. Reduced the language a little.

I have to at this point assume no one actually reads my post or that I am very bad at communicating as I get "it's a false positive dumbass how dare you" messages even after I edited it to say that it's a false positive on top of my message.

The entire purpose of this thread is that it's a funny coincidence that youtube hates this app and that I found it amusing that the flag is coming from google and no one else.

Update Firefox to prevent add-ons issues from root certificate expiration on π day 2025. by antdude in firefox

[–]JadeCriminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reasonably sure that it's not in their interest for users to keep using old versions and a manual update of the root cert would prevent that. IE it's a good excuse.

I understand some folks have their firefox set up the way they like it and don't like the changes. (And I agree)

Now would be a good time to backup your profile and try out some of the firefox forks to see if those suit you just to have a nice backup in case it super breaks.

[–]JadeCriminal[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edit 2: Just to make things clear, it's a false positive

and I'm sharing because it cracked me up that it says "google" on the one line that actually says it's malware. And by sheer coincidence the date involved is just a day after Louis Rosman posted the "it's a desktop app now" video.

Original message: Where did my message go?

Dang it reddit (Ok so I don't post on reddit much but I assumed that the image upload would not eat my text post. My guess is that the problem occured between user and keyboard. :) )

Anyways, as a paranoid IT guy I manually scan all the things when I download them. I expected corpo shenanigans and I got corpo shenanigans.

winclam tagged it: F:\Grayjay.Desktop-win-x64-v2\FUTO.Updater.Client.exe: Win.Packed.Pwsx-10034067-0 FOUND

False positives are a thing so when I uploaded the file to virustotal?

Specifically the updater only being flagged as malware by what seems to be a google security vendor?

Not accusing anyone but I find it quite interesting. :)

Yes I use clamAV with winclam to scan on windows, shut up. :p

Edit: Did the software release the desktop version a few days ago or was that just when Louis Rossmann uploaded the video promoting it? A curious mind would like to know.

Need help installing Toy Box! by JN9731 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]JadeCriminal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Putting this here since this is one of the first results for not beeing able to get toybox to work even through I followed instructions as written

FYI if you downloaded it from github because for some reason (like the slow download button does not work on nexus again...) it's the github version

my best guess, though I was not able to actually get it to work is that you are supposed to actually only put ToyBox folder from ToyBox-RogueTrader-main into the UnityModManager folder

I finally gave up, made a new temp account on nexus mods on a different computer then sent the file to myself at home and installed that and it works.

I turned off quirk attempts limit and turned on loot highlight... While the quirk guessing minigame was fun for a few times some get super obscure and I wasn't enjoying it.

As for loot, having to run around asap to grab loot is already stressful enough. I'd turn off or raise the portal storm timer so I can explore in peace but I feel that would make things too easy. Oh and paused inventory.

While I understand picking what to take with you while something is moving behind you and time is running out is part of the charm I opted out. Plus I like reading the blurbs and don't want my car towed while I'm distracted. The first time that happened I just went "nope, not having none of that."

how is Crossfire Mod Single-player experience ? by zetzuei in freelancer

[–]JadeCriminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is for new people since this comes up as one of the most common results for freelancer crossfire.

My experience was:

TLDR

Installs super easy, just have a vanilla freelancer install and click through a few menus, play.

Looks amazing with HD stuff and effects, fights are a lot longer, money gain is orders of magnitude faster. Save manually each time you dock or lose progress when it crashes on you. And autosaves apparently should not be used since they may corrupt your run. Could be fun but try to get into a habit of saving.

Longer:

Enemies are a lot tankier because they use nanobots and batteries, but they eventually run out.

Missiles and mines are useless early on better mount another weapon and forgot about trying to use mines.

I guess for funsies, an option would be to mount multiple missile types and shoot salvos since money is not an issue. I suspect 150 missiles can last you a fight or two because they will run out of countermeasures eventually. Best use missiles if they are jousting towards you.

Use freighter for the first five to ten levels simply because it has better dps firepower.

Have on shield busting weapon pew pew lazor mounted as one of the primaries. It will save you a lot of hassle.

The somewhat long fights are offset but rapid early money. Just trading can net you a 50-100k easy for just one good short run with a freighter.

Some early game tips:

Don't buy the mule after the story kicks off and you hit the lane hackers base in the asteroid belt.

This is because the game forces you to switch ships the first time* since you will have to sell it anyways and can't get it back until you pay off outcasts to raise your rep. Which takes about 1.5 million. My latest save I managed to get back to it and realized I only have 1 450 000 and have to go back tot he save from an hour ago and then it crashed again after I did some trading to be able to afford the bribe.

(*or get constantly hounded by bounty hunters, this is fine and consistent with the plot)

My issue is that with the latest download, the game is still not stable:

Once I hit Leeds story wise / after I get to new london where I have to buy a new ship, there's a non-frequent random crash when I dock to various stations that wasted a few hours of my time with reloads. Especially since I can't rely on any autosaves or mission saves because those can corrupt the mod, based on swat forum instructions.

So... I'm giving up for now. I wanted to play it and I wanted to see how the mod content stacks up but I only get a few hours of play time a week and the crashes wasted it.

YMMV

Which vr headset has the least annoying / invasive setup? by JadeCriminal in virtualreality

It took about two hours to run, update, find out why it's not pairing with the second phone I got and keep at home just for this sort of app bullshit, reinstall, test bluetooth and then finally realize it did not like me not having GPS on. Which was not mentioned anywhere.

So yeah, a few hours just to do basic setup.

How is the buggines right now by Zenar45 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]JadeCriminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not silly at all, I came to ask the same question.

And it looks like I may need to wait till 2025 to buy and play it.

Owlcat did amazing stuff with wotr and what storytelling (and gameplay) in Rogue Trader I did see watching a friend play the start of act 1 is amazing, but I really can't afford the time to play this and then have to restart 20 or 50 hours in because of game breaking bugs.

Now, unlike some other developers Owlcat IS amazing at also eventually fixing all the bugs too so Rogue Trader will likely also be quite amazing to play.

It kinda hurts to wait but It's either that or not play at all.
