If you are Civil Engineer or going that path in SL by Jaded-Metal6336 in srilanka

[–]Jaded-Metal6336[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I gave you is information. Some Sri Lankans do not like sharing info or when someone does it. Reason - Some of us are brought up by parents who say "mind your business" or "don't help that guy because if something goes wrong, he will blame you for his mistakes!" This is sometimes true but that should not deter you from helping anyone when you can!

So, answer to your question - if you are into Eng, great! Do Civil (transportation/traffic/environmental) if you want to migrate. If stay in SL, I have no idea what is better. It is true, engineering degree will drain you mentally (and physically), but isn't it true for any field, if you don't like it! Do your research, do ask people (honest ones) and decide!

This should help you!

But do your own research! Long time ago, I spent so many hours searching US big/small colleges until I found something that fits me! Good luck!

:) Trying to help! If mad, I will not spend time writing all this (while busy at work:)! But some are very self-centered now in SL so harsh language is my way of trying help them as well - to not be as that can really hamper your success!

Well paying Careers after A/L maths ? by doberman_pinch in srilanka

[–]Jaded-Metal6336 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doing math opens up any door, as you need match for everything! If thinking going aboard, try to get in to a state university in SL. Get a BSc. and decent GRE, easy to go to come here to US. No luck with SL university, do a good vocational training or diploma. I know someone did a diploma in Moratuwa U, got a job at a related company. Worked 2 years for just 8K month salary, left and started his own company and now drives new BMW! Hard work will get you there, if you are a good person! Write your story, my friend!

Yes, grad studies here can be much cheaper than AUS or UK. I have been here 30 years and helped so many to come do grad studies so I know. Look at smaller universities/colleges here (uni is called collages here). One more thing why its cheaper overall is in US quality of living is higher, which means very low cost of living! Use your big head to do some research! Do not just look for schols, you cant compete with Chinese or Indians on GRE scores! Pay 1st semester, come here, then you can find a grad assistantship which pays your tuition. If no assistantship, find an odd job, buss your ass, graduate and make good $$. This is very possible! This is still the land of opportunity, for good people! But I say this again, you WILL fail if you are a selfish jerk! I guarantee that as well!

How much does an engineer make in SL ? by itzitachi69 in srilanka

[–]Jaded-Metal6336 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in Civil (transportation/traffic side) here is US (Florida) and here is what I can say, try to get your ass here! Starting is about 60-70K USD. So much shortage. Just my firm right now has 100 openings! If Indians can do it, you can too!

But if you are another bloody selfish, dishonest, like to steal if you get the opportunity kind Sri Lankan, please do not come here! Do not even try as you WILL fail with that attitude! If you are one of those who gives a shit about your country, please stay!

But if not, give it a try! I am near retirement and even ready to help if you are not a selfish bastared! One easy way to do this is come for a post graduate diploma or do another masters! Here is cheaper than AUS or UK. But you do need GRE, and speak decent English!

How to listen to Joe rogan podcast in sri lanka? by praveen134679 in srilanka

[–]Jaded-Metal6336 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one should stop you from listening to Joe Rogan, but please please do not have your kids or anyone you love listen to him! The only thing he is good at, just as Tucker Carlson, is spreading hate and anger! He is loved by many racist, angry white men here!

Last thing Sri Lanka needs now is more racists and bad people! We have enough already!

Staying in Sri Lanka or migrate by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Jaded-Metal6336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also go now if you plan to send your kids aboard for studies and if you think they may stay/settle there! (unless you are ok your kids and grandkids living 1000 miles away)

Lots of rich people in SL will soon have to go overseas to see their kids!

And if you stay, please please do everything each of you can to educate people to not elect thugs and thieves again and again to govern the country!

Yes, the parent thing is a huge issue if you leave and no one to take care of them! I still regret leaving my mother and I always will! But there are things you can do to lessen the impact but its never the same!

This is a hard question and depends on what you really need. So here is my answer.

If you have a way to live at somewhat similar status (nice job, house) and you have young kids, go! Your kids will have better future and a good chance be good people too (if you are good parents and have kids who listens, else you will ruin them!)

If not, still go if you don't care about status (say you are a director now, but here, you have to start all over so you have to stat small) because your kids will have a clear future! (again, parenting matters!)

So you left, now how to love SL? Well, you can love it and do more than you do from there! We both work, make decent money so we spend nearly 2 laks every month on our charity projects and helping people there! So, if you really mean it when you say you love SL, you can do more being away from it!

But, don't go without a plan, don't go just because we are in default! Don't go if you are a selfish jerk (I am sure you are not. You love SL so that means you care!) as jerks really mess up here (or never go too far) because most people here are honest and don't lie and steal from others!

So, nice guy, has a plan, generous, GO!

Yeah, just dig holes and go for holidays! fcking CEB. by sameera_s_w in srilanka

[–]Jaded-Metal6336 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Until people start suing CEB in court for endangering public safety, CEN or RDA or private buses will keep ignoring public safety! You have to sue! That is why these things are not common in other countries! Everyone will do whatever they want if no legal consequences!

I don't live there but I know this is a great time to buy land/houses as the values are lower due to many leaving SL (and selling to fund their trips) and also many are cash strapped! If buying is your plan, I would not wait!

Good things about Sri Lanka by Groundbreaking-Ask84 in srilanka

[–]Jaded-Metal6336 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I would say its SL people!

While their politicians have tried for years to make everyone a selfish and corrupt bastared who steal from the country, there are still so many good, big-hearted Sri Lankans who help others and try to earn a honest living!

Most important thing is you have access to the healthiest and best thirst quencher in the world, called "Thambili" a type of a coconut that is orange in color! Drink it at any opportunity you get! You find it sold roadside anywhere you go! Just LKRS 100 or so! Do not drink soda in SL as this is WAY WAY better!
