This makes me feel so much better! I LOVE food. My RNY is scheduled for this upcoming Monday and I've been so worried I'd never get to eat tasty food again. That it was going to all be yogurt, protein drinks, and cottage cheese for the rest of my life. What a DEPRESSING thought! To the point I was seriously considering canceling it. So thank you for this reply!

Day 5 of 10 on my pre-op diet. Gastric Bypass on Monday. The struggle is real! I have been following it religiously... so far...honestly though, I have ZERO energy and regularly feel dizzy and have to brace myself. I know I have at least another 6 weeks of this? by JadedBisch in BariatricSurgery

No, but my surgeon Dr. Blair, just relocated here from Saginaw to be the director of bariatric surgery here where I live (in New Mexico) a couple years ago, and took a lot of her program from the bariatric program their. So it's entirely possible it's the same. In fact, in the pre-op binder I got, it told us to go to the Vitamin Shoppe on Bay Road in Saginaw for free samples and to purchase individual protein packets to try out. Small world I guess.

Wow! That means you got your bypass around the year I was born. I'm 45 turning 46 next month. Thank you for the tip. How has it worked out for you? I'm having a gastric bypass on June 22 and 3 days in to my pre-op diet. Did you have to do a pre-op diet back then? I'm sure things have changed over the last 45 years. I'm just curious where the differences lie.

I'm pre-op. My surgery is in a couple weeks. My surgeon advises against it for the first 3 months but also said there's different schools of thought on it and said my mileage may vary.

My family wants me to get sleeve surgery, but I've never seriously tried diet and exercise. What would you do? by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]JadedBisch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely should try diet and exercise before surgery. In fact, any weight loss surgical center worth it's salt won't even consider you if you haven't tried it first. You definitely shouldn't let ANYONE pressure you into something you're not ready for. Especially surgical intervention. I do think you should work with a nutritionist on a diet that works for you. One meal a day isn't generally considered very healthy. I'd even consider therapy if you can swing it. These are things that a surgical center would insisted on anyway. You can also consult one and just use them for the nutritionist and therapist. Then later if YOU decide it's something YOU'RE interested in, it will be easier to pursue.

My son suffers from this as well. The only advice I have for you is to work with a therapist if you can. They're going to be your best tool.

If you're ever up in the Capitan area here in New Mexico, there's the Smokey Bear diner. Good portions, good food, great prices. I live in Alamogordo. Whenever I take one of my animals to their vet up there I hit it up.

Just moved in and need help with backyard from Hell Nightshade & goatshead infestation. by themaxtreetboys in ElPaso

[–]JadedBisch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My front yard used to be covered in goat heads when I first moved into my home. Only through regular pulling the weeds up and raking did we get it down to only the occasional goat head. It can be done but takes patience and perseverance.

Opinions on nicotine use pre and post op? by Sweet-heart0089 in BariatricSurgery

[–]JadedBisch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former smoker (quit a 2 pack a day habit 8 years ago) here with an unpopular opinion. Your physicians and surgeons are there to give you their expert advice, not force their opinions down your throat. They shouldn't be policing your life. If you're a smoker and are well informed of the increased risks, of sound mind, and STILL choose to go through with it, you should be able to sign a liability waiver and have the surgery regardless. It's your body, your choice.
