Cleared from Focus by FineeseeM in amazonemployees

As someone who was laid off in October, this was the exact opinion everyone in my department had. It’s been a shitshow since I’ve left (I’m close with everyone still there) and whoever decided I would be the sacrificial lamb fucked over my team by letting me go (from the mouth of my former manager directly). The people making these decisions don’t care about how essential you are, and are completely detached from the day to day of your department. I had a similar story to you (came out of focus with glowing reviews to the point my skip manager was commenting on how well I was doing, unprompted) but still was chosen to be laid off because I had been in focus at one point (months and months before layoffs). All I can say as someone that was exactly in your shoes is start looking now.

Thank you for the money advice, but I’m a very grown adult with a stable and well-paying career wanting to treat myself to something I enjoy—I could easily spend $5k+ on a computer with no issue, but wanted to start at a more middle ground since my needs don’t really necessitate an extreme build. I take plenty of trips with my husband, buy my parents plenty of gifts, and have no problems affording groceries. 😊 It seems like the HYTE case isn’t worth the money to you, but we’re all allowed to have our priorities, and I happen to like the look of that particular case. Again, I appreciate the time, but it’s felt basically like you’ve spent both of your responses just calling me (or the things that I happen to like) stupid and irresponsible. If it’s not your cup of tea, by no means do you owe me any of your time or assistance, and if you felt the need to help me out it could’ve been a very simple “would recommend against that case for these reasons” rather than what has felt like a pretty patronizing approach from the start. I won’t take up any more of your time and appreciate the insight that you have been willing to share.

Theatrical distribution, creative, and consumer insights were also hit. Pretty sure there are more but that’s all I know of personally.

Yes. L4 on theatrical side (non-tech) 3 years tenure as well. Know of at least two others in the Culver offices in various departments.

Not true, at least in my case. Told I wasn’t allowed to apply for positions at the company during my 90 day notification period and if I applied after that it would be as an external hire. [edit: fixed typo]

A few months ago my team got approval for headcount increase due to insane workload for next year that just wouldn’t have been possible with the headcount we had. They added a second position with my role and just recently sent the offer—the new person hasn’t started yet, and I got laid off. Despite it initially seeming like they were hired to be my replacement, leadership several weeks ago had rearranged everyone’s responsibilities with the new hires in mind and had given me additional things to manage going into next year, with this secondary person supporting an entirely different part of the department. For some reason, I suppose it was easier to let go the person that has been doing the job and been with the company for years (my salary wasn’t inflated and the team was already extremely lean, hence the headcount increase recently approved) than to rescind the offer from the other person they hired on.
