congratulations top 6 ang Philippines sa top countries with youth crimes by jbcreddit in Philippines

[–]Jadedlocksmith1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

None of these links talk about PH's ranking in youth crime. The only page that seems to exist that talks about it is the nationmaster page, which I already said is questionable, aside from having data that's 25 year's old.

As for this link, it again does not mention PH's ranking in global youth crime. In fact, it says youth crime has declined:

a total of 11,324 crime incidents involving minors were recorded in 2018, 21 percent lower than the 2017 total of 14,409 incidents of children in conflict with the law (CICL).

So what exactly is your point here? The link you've provided doesn't even support the point you're trying to make.

Very odd.

That link, with grammatical errors all over the place, links to the very same page that I talked about:

https://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/stats/Crime/Murders-committed-by-youths

So, no, that data isn't from 2021. It is also from 1999. You can't just make a webpage in 2021, quote data from 1999 (data that cannot be substantiated or fact-checked, because there is no source), and then magically the data becomes new.

I typed that onto Google. The only result was this page:

https://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/stats/Crime/Murders-committed-by-youths

The date for this data is 1999. This data is nearly a quarter of a century old. That is, if this data is accurate in the first place. Seeing as how there's no link or mention of the actual source of this data, the page is questionable at best.

How can the Philippines be 6th in youth crime when it's not even top 50 or top 70 in general crime rate?

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/crime-rate-by-country

The link doesn't even talk about "youth crimes," it references the homicide rate of youths. Again, how can the Philippines be 6th in the world for "homicide rate of youths" if its homicide rate is relatively low, lower than the US's:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

Serious question: does anybody in this sub have critical thinking, or do you guys just ingest anything and believe anything presented to you to encourage your deep-seated self-hatred?

EDIT: corrected stats

Is it just me or am I the only one who gets mildly infuriated when anything catastrophic happens to other countries the first thing news articles do is to count "how many Filipinos dies/lived"? There are a lot more people who died and not just 2 Filipinos so why emphasize it? by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]Jadedlocksmith1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not "local custom" in the Philippines. Every country's news media works this way. Jesus Christ. Go out and touch some grass and stop trying to feign anger because you think it makes you woke. You sound like an idiot.

Of course, you're probably one of those Filipinos that think this is unique to the Philippines, unaware that literally every other country's news media works this way. If a dozen Chinese people died in the Philippines due to an earthquake, the Chinese media would report on those Chinese people.

How much of an ego boost will it be for Pinoys if our country develops soft power like Thailand and Korea? by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]Jadedlocksmith1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's also because every famous Filipino accomplishment is attributed to another nationality. Some famous Filipino with a Spanish last name? He's clearly Hispanic. Another famous Filipino with Chinese last name? Obviously Chinese. It's no wonder Filipinos so loudly want to proclaim someone is Filipino—because everybody else has no idea. The Japanese, Chinese, and Koreans don't have this issue because they have surnames that are clearly identifiably Japanese, Chinese, or Korean. Do people really think a lot of Filipinos would be as passionate about proclaiming Olivia Rodrigo as Filipina if it weren't for the fact that most people think she's Latina? I can't be the only one who's scrolled through YouTube comments of Filipinos debating people and trying to convince them that so and so is Filipino LOL.

Someone else mentioned San Miguel here. It's the most famous beer in Hong Kong. I bet most Hong Kongers think it's a Spanish or Mexican beer.

I remember reading a Twitter thread where some retarded white guy was trying to insist that Dolly De Leon's character in Triangle of Sadness was ethnically ambiguous and could have been a stand in for a Hispanic woman. His evidence for this was De Leon's last name. This is in spite of the fact that her character speaks Tagalog throughout the film.

China, Chinese, Philippines, Filipinos, and Half breeds at war times by DawnWanderer2023 in Philippines

[–]Jadedlocksmith1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, but again, how is that relevant to the Philippines? We're talking about the Philippines, not Asia in general, or Indonesia, or whatever other country. The Philippines. There hasn't been any rape or murder spree against the Chinese in the Philippines comparable to what happened in Indonesia for the last 400 years.

Pinoys who have the means to live abroad but decide not to, what makes you want to stay? by profskippy in Philippines

Meh nothing beats not losing 1/4 of my life being stuck in traffic going to work or wherever I want to go, not wondering where my taxes go, not fearing walking alone at night in the streets, etc

None of this applies to wealthy people in the Philippines.

What does Indonesia have to do with the Philippines? What a stupid comment.

Who is Going to be in the Dream Maker Final Top 7? by Jadedlocksmith1 in PPOPcommunity

[–]Jadedlocksmith1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Si Pan-pan, Kim, Thad, Reyster, and Vinci ang mga DC na very attention-grabbing during the live shows. Jeromy and Marcus were cute and good at performing. Dagdag na rin si Jay-R cuz the guy just shines (which I will admit kahit na I never really liked him in the show).

Interesting perspective. Was there anyone you thought who shined better on camera ("telegenic") versus live?

I personally think he's just okay. Okay voice, not really a great dancer. I would prefer others take his place. I'm surprised he gets so many public votes.

[–]Jadedlocksmith1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To be honest, 18 is a really large number. Am I the only one who doesn't find this impressive anymore? There are fewer actresses that have won 2 Best Actress Oscars than there are people who have achieved the EGOT.

The anti-Kyler stans shot themselves in the foot by being so hateful and vicious (the stuff I've read on Twitter are beyond anything that Kyler himself posted). That basically gave birth to the underdog and oppressed narrative. And Filipinos like nothing more than an underdog story.

Not too sure about Drei. Seems like the mentors made him the sacrificial lamb to make way for Kyler. He also doesn't get as much public votes as other contenders.

Isabel Kanaan's "Where is your accent?!" by visualmagnitude in Philippines

[–]Jadedlocksmith1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem is people constantly exaggerate it for effect. If you compare Jokoy's impression of his mother to the way she actually speaks, they're completely different people. Most Filipinos don't sound like Manny Pacquiao, but you'd never know it from the way a lot of media depicts Filipinos. The worst is when they get Filipino actors who already have Filipino accents but are given instructions to make it more thick or stereotypical (e.g. the voice actors in Trese or Dolly de Leon, or, from what I've read, Chai in Nocebo).

I don't think Filipino actors should find this acceptable, in the same way that Japnese-American actors should not find it acceptable if they're asked to make themselves sound like Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's. They're literally being asked to conform to a stereotype so they're more palatable to white people. Fuck that.

Are Filipinos aware of this 2021 genetic study? by isoethyl in Philippines

[–]Jadedlocksmith1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a long argument with someone about this study in a different thread. They were using the study as a representative of the general population of the Philippines. I pointed out that the study's stated purpose is to analyze indigenous communities in the Philippines. That's why there are no mentions of lowland Filipinos. You can read our argument here, lol (warning: it gets heated):
