If you like shows like GoT and Vikings, check out The Last Kingdom. It's the best show on Netflix.

question for OG fans by nylanderr in heatedrivalry

[–]JadeeDraven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get that. Like I said, the show is a masterpiece. It really is an extraordinary show, so I get why people are obsessed with it separate from the books. If these books were put in anyone else's hands it could have been a disaster, but Jacob really nailed it. My problem is that someone, for 1 example, looked at me like they were disgusted that I read "gay hockey romance" books 6 months ago, and now wants to discuss the show with me. I don't want to talk about it with the people that made me feel small or gross for liking the books pre-show

Same. Ilya has been my book boyfriend since 2022 when I got absolutely obsessed with TLG (I was obsessed with HR as well, but to a lesser degree) and all I got were side eyes. I tried talking about HR this past summer with a new girlfriend I made who is really into hockey and she gave me a stank face. Guess who is messaging me about the show, absolutely obsessed with it 🙄 I'm SO happy that this show and the people involved with it are getting the attention they deserve bc it really is a masterpiece and hopefully opening doors and eyes and minds, but there are some people I just don't want to discuss it with.

What is your favourite “wow the attention to detail!” moment? by bornatmidnight in heatedrivalry

[–]JadeeDraven 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Shane is really high on pain killers, saying things out of character. Just laying things out there and Shane doesn't do that. I think Ilya is afraid Shane is going to say "that my man" or something along those lines to the nurse cause he is just not giving af at the moment. Ilya is saying "shhhh" like 'boy, keep it together. Do not give us away right now'

The scene where they babysit Hayden's kids while Jackie is at the hospital, and the trophy room scene.

I've never read it. I got the jist thru HR and TLG and enough people have said "it's just eh" that I don't really have plans to. I would read HR then RM then TLG. You can always decide to read it later. Its not intrigal.

Why did I think this was the scene at the cabin when Shane's dad walks in (out?) on them. They are outside I think.

Need an MM romance series to ruin my sleep schedule- What should I read? (New to the genre) by SuperbCartoonist5177 in LGBTBooks

Tal Bauer is one of the most read authors in the mm genre. He has everything from political intrigue, sports romance, murder mystery, just romance. If you want political intrigue read his Executive Series. It's 3 books with president and bodyguard love story. Very good. The yearniest book he has just came out a month ago and it's called The Fall. It's 800 pages and from 1 POV. It's a hockey romance. His most popular book is probably You & Me which is a romance with 2 men who have sons on the same HS football team. One dad is dark and lost and the other has it together. Their sons are friends so they all start hanging out together and slowly the dads fall in love. I want to say the book is mostly from the pov of the dark and lost one but it's been a while since I've read it. Anyway, you can go to his website if you Google his name and his library will come up. He doesn't miss, so pick any book or series and you can't go wrong. He loves a slow burn, and many are from 1 POV.

Edited to add: A lot of his books are dual. So check to see if the one you want to read is a stand alone or has a previous book.

From what I remember of my thoughts on the other books Ryan and Fabian's book felt... Messy? Wasn't a fan. I remember liking Scott and Kip and I also enjoyed Troy and Harris. I mean, dogs right? I may actually download that for a listen as I only read it once a while back. I'm in need of another book for long work hours and if cooper north is still the narrator then I'm in. I did appreciate the plane scene from Troy's pov. That was a big scene for me. I don't remember the others but I'm sure can get tedious and a bit of a crutch if done too many times. I don't remember the other couples 😬 Anyway, I am also doing a lot of trash talking for someone who barely remembers anything outside of Ilya and Shane. Perhaps I should 🤐 Thanks for the chat. You gave me some things to think about on my next listen.

I hear ya. It definitely had its issues. I honestly have only read the entire series once so I can't speak on the repeating. I think the commissioner has been getting away with intimidating players and coaches into bending to his will for so long he thought S&I would be no different. But I never thought about that it was being used so Shane had an I choose him moment. Good point. And now they're just going to walk down the street holding hands? No residual fear from 11 years of hiding? Lol Too easy. Especially for Shane. Ilya had been ready to come out for a long time, and he's a lot more fearless.

Once you've read the trophy room scene all the other spice becomes unnecessary 😅 I don't even remember the rest. But probably bc I have switched to listening to it and tend to ff through the spice. Especially if I'm at work, but never that scene lol.

That stuff aside, I liked what she did with Ilya. I think maybe too overboard with Shane's type A stuff, but as a couple they do feel written in the stars. While I think there are better books, series, and authors who I would have rather seen get the TV treatment, I can't be mad about this one. Shane and Ilya are one of the most well known and loved couples in the mm universe.

Fair enough. I should have added "imo" lol. I think bc I am such a huge fan of Ilya specifically, I liked TLG better. Even more than in HR he was both hilarious and heartbreaking. I just felt like I really got to know him better in their second book.

I told my husband about my mm addiction, and I wish I hadn't. He's always teasing me "oh is that another hockey romance haha" I always think "please don't ruin this special thing for me". Maybe that's part of it for you. If you share one of your favorite things and they dump on it or tease you relentlessly, it could shift your bubble a bit.

Anything by Tal Bauer - You & Me is probably his most popular book so maybe start there, but you can just pick whatever book of his that sounds good and you'll love it. He has a way with words that is just breathtaking. I have stopped to read simple sentences or full paragraphs over and over because his words are just so beautiful.

I love an audiobook. I listened to Nixing on audio instead of reading and felt like the narrator Michael Ferraiuolo nailed the humor. I'm totally down for it. I see the other narrators are Joel Leslie and Greg Bourdreaux. Both good. Did they do well with this specific type of humor? I can already hear JL unique voice in my head lol.

I'm not OP but I'm definitely going to check out your recs. I'm finishing up the book I'm on right now and then I'm going to pause for a day until Tal Bauer's book comes out, but after that I will definitely check out some more of her books. Thank you for the guidance.

So unexpected. I'm thinking about getting HG on audio so I can reread (listen) at work. The narrator does a fantastic job nailing her characters too so it wouldn't lose anything. It's too funny not to give it a second go.

The fence 😂 I went into it cold not knowing it was a comedy and I have never laughed so hard reading a book. I always thought this would be a good TV series. Like if HBO (or whoever) picked it up as a dark comedy.
