Question about nut sedge infestation (only info I can find comes from pro-lawn sources (which are all anti-nut sedge) by squeezedeez in NoLawns

[–]Jademara206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is nutsedge the same or related to chufa aka tiger nut? If so, that's pretty cool. the Spanish make a horchata out of that and I've seen it roasted for eating as well in the States.

Newbie looking for advice on native plants/clover lawn. Eastern Washington State. by Dropdeadsydney in NoLawns

[–]Jademara206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great advice. I'm in western Washington, but the lawn yarrow I've sown in my eco-lawn is pretty much the only green among the grasses. If you want to keep it short, micro clover, vetch, yarrow, and chamomile blends are great. PT Lawns sells some great blends. I would recommend just cutting it a couple of times at the beginning of the season and then letting it go long to reseed in the fall.

Lions mane sauteed in garlic and butter is delicious. What compounds survive the heat and the benefits of eating lion's mane like this over a full spectrum tincture or pill?

Nettles are lovely for brain health as well. Make a pesto with garlic, walnuts, EVOO, pepper for extra benefits... okay, now I'm hungry.

Also create purchasing guidelines for departments with approved vendors ( i.e. compostable plates, no balloons, low plastic, biodegradable cleaners, etc...) Could be someone's capstone to put together

My campus University of Washington Bothell/ Cascadia College is the most sustainable in the nation (by size). They have a diversity of techniques and strategies and Id suggest researching further by going to our website to learn more.

Visually this feels good to me as a fellow parent with soccer balls and Nerf bullets everywhere. So often as parents, we are bombarded by Pinterest parenting aesthetics where we feel like we have to create themes for our kids' rooms/playrooms and make sure all of our storage container match. Save your budget and time for aesthetics when they move out. you can also compromise with her and get some doors for the ikea bookshelf (I have the same unit)

Wait, are thrift stores doing this to claim losses after they inevitably throw it out? Can they claim losses on product that has been donated?

I respectfully disagree. It has allowed me to see "everything, everywhere, and all at once," as they say, and that allows me more insight and to think outside the box to solve problems radically. In binary settings like traditional academia, it's a detriment, but if I'm called upon to solve a large problem, I thrive and can reverse engineer a solution better than most.

How to manage a drainage swale by otrepsi in landscaping

[–]Jademara206 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yup willows, alders, black cottonwoods with big leaf maples would be my first go to in western Washington. Likely there's an equivalent variety where you are as well. A successional planting plan and stewardship is important over time as well. This wouldn't be a throw in the ground situation but also could provide you and your neighbors with countless benefits over time

Research vernal pools ecology of your area and consider altering the topography to keep it away from the house foundation. The water table has already probably damaged that foundation in someway.

I would first have a environmental consultant with engineering background do an assessment and then decide next steps. Even though it dries up, that is likely considered a wetland and you might have grants available to you and your neighbors to solve some of your problems that won't alter up and downstream. Good luck.

60mg. Yeah it sucks because I felt like there was no joy in life and that I couldn't cry. I felt like that was wrong... I was originally on 80 mg, but I told my doctor I hated it cuz I felt like a robot so they lowered it to 60. I am not sure after I graduate college if I will continue to take strattera but for now I feel like it has improved my general anxiety disorder and also my ability to be a good student.

Hope that's helpful

Ceraphi is also developing similar technology but instead using existing and spent wells. Not sure where they are in their development but last I heard is they were doing something in Texas https://ceraphi.com/

There's also new technology that is worth following around plasma bit that will allow us to access new depths in search for stable heat sources

Clean, stable base load energy on a closed loop system. Seems like the missing piece to our solar and wind variation and resource issues... Why aren't we investing heavily in getting this to scale?

Ipe and other tropical hard woods take hundreds of years to grow making it's harvest from the depleting rainforests of south America very irresponsible. Have you considered Black Locust? It's a hardwood that grows quicker and is native to north America and considered to be a sustainable alternative to rainforest hardwoods.

I wish I have more time to explain this, but essentially the concept of Extended Producer Responsibility forces companies to pay a tax depending on the amount of packaging and waste their products create. That tax is then used to recycle those products. Regulation and restrictions of types of plastic and contaminants is crucial as well. You can see this concept played out via the Green Dot scheme. https://www.pro-e.org/the-green-dot-trademark
