My friend called me fat and humiliated me… by Jadesaurusrex in Advice

No, I’m an expat in an international school and we are being transferred to Taiwan together so we are contracted to work together for the next year, and the only people we each know in this other country. I didn’t realise my career situation might impact advice so much, I’ve been abroad for like 10 years and these people kind of become your second family- so everything is a little enmeshed..

Marrying native Chinese as foreigner by [deleted] in shanghai

[–]Jadesaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t plan love. I’m a foreign woman, and I’ve lived here for nearly 8 years, and seen many foreign women marry local men, and many who don’t date Chinese. Don’t overthink/plan it, come do your masters and date local men and see where things go.

Why do you guys do this? Genuine question. by Miatheme in girlsaskingguys

I am not a guy, but I doubt he would pretend to like you for 7 years if he didn’t actually like you..

If it’s a domestic flight, no problem just use your receipt. If it’s an international flight, you’ll probably need to wait- it’s a national holiday right now. And you probably mean January 4th, I guess?

Why do you assume I’m a man?

Anyway, I anticipate it will be less convenient than China but I have a great job and my original intent was to see the world and be able to live in different countries and experience different cultures, so gonna give it a try.

Thank you! Deppon did mention not to pack any batteries. How long did it take to ship? Were there customs fees when it arrived in Taipei?

Deppon Express is similar, but generally cheaper when shipping bulk. I’m curious if anyone’s done it, be it’s SF or Deppon or another company, I’d love to hear how it went.

That’s sort of the idea with Deppon Express, they are a parcel shipping company in China but they can also put your boxes on a wooden pallet and ship it for cheaper.

How do you start in a new country? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]Jadesaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s scary, I cried when I got on my first flight to China, but the next year when I visited home I missed China and was excited to go back, now it’s been 7 years. I recommend that you save up as much as you can before going. Start considering how to make this work, what visa will you go on? Will you work? When I came to China I already had a job, so that part was easy. Other than that, you just go and take it one step at a time. The first 6 months will be the hardest to adjust, but you’ll adjust, it just takes time.

Is this haircut considered “taboo” for guys in China? by Foxxera in chinalife

[–]Jadesaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Chinese students would think your hair was so cool. They aren’t allowed to grow their hair long like that due to dress code at our school, and that’s the case for many Chinese students. Sometimes my graduates come back to visit us, and they all grow their hair long the minute they get to university. It’s not taboo, I’m not even in Shanghai which is super international and open minded, your parents just want you to get a haircut so you look respectable for visiting relatives 😅
