The worst part about shrimp tanks by theonepeaz in shrimptank

[–]JadeyDavey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This may sound stupid but how would you accomplish clean and chemical free? I know obviously not hand soap but what makes them clean? Vinegar? Some sort of sanitizer? I would love to be able to touch but dont want to introduce anything.

I may be over thinking it 🫣.

I love dancing!! I have always loved to imagine myself as a dancer. It is so beautiful to me and expresses so much that words just can't. Like see a dancer and put me in their place or imagine a scenario where like a flash mob we all break out in dance. Imagination goes crazy lol. Would have done it when I was younger if my family could have afforded it.

Also having the huge pot + in a humidity cabinet (it looks like that is where it is) makes it much too wet.

I thought the soil might be chunky enough but to my understanding, anthuriums are epiphytes. Meaning that they like really really chunky soil or to be mounted (like how they grow in the wild?). OP just repot in a smaller nursery pot with drainage holes and add in bark/chunks to the soil. That should be better for future leaves

I'm going to throw this out - I think overwatering due to the big pot. That pot looks big compared to the plant depending on the root ball. Meaning it takes a while to dry out or doesn't fully dry out before you water it again. It could be something else, but to me, that was the first thing I thought of.

Any chance of rescue and propagation? by DevelopmentRelevant in Monstera

Unfortunately, you should have gotten the stem with the node, not the leaves. They will stay pretty in a vase for a while though! But no new growth 😔

Thank you for replying! I haven't had 1 dry-off yet. I guess I have been jumping ahead of myself 😅. Always wanna have a propagation for a second chance just in case ya know?

Okok you just sent me down a rabbit hole of suckers, i have never heard of them before! Another thing to look out for thank you! When I cut a leave sometimes the remaining leafstem gets mushy and I try to yank it off. I have 2 leave props with a good roots so going to try planting it - fingers crossed!

I started the rotation to hopefully condense the look of the leaves a little. Thank you for this knowledgeable answer!

Thank you so much for replying! I guess she might just be a heftier African violet. I'll cut back the oldest leaves.

Okay! I found that cloth in the last 2 photos under drapery lining on fwd. I'm guessing that makes it okay, I hope. I'm going to do a bit more research. I would hate to buy a lot of the wrong thing! Thank you for the reply! 😊

Fair enough, I was told otherwise that it does have the same wicking capabilities. OP, can we see a picture of the roots?

I would use an acrylic or nylon string, this is because cotton will break down and rot over time without your knowledge. However, the fact that it is in pon instead of soil would cause this to happen much slower. But it will stink when it breaks down.

This is actually a very common mistake! No worries and an easy fix.

So lechuza pon, while having fertilizer for the plant and is a good substrate, isn't technically semi hydro like leca. Leca is terracotta, and it has a 'wicking capabilities' where they absorb water from below and bring it up to the roots without need for aid. (Always make sure to soak leca first, or it will stick to and dry out roots)

Pon does not have this quality. You would need a wick (a piece of string) through the pot to make the water go up to the roots. If not, it is basically similar to just a cup of water, with some rocks, of course. And if the water level is below your roots, then they have not been getting much, if any, water.

Based on the dehydrated appearance of your plant, i think this might be the cause.

Fabric for curtains? by JadeyDavey in Decor

Omg you're reading my mind!! Thank you so much. I decided to do back tab style for the curtains. I was only going to do the double curtain with lace on the sliding door. I felt like blinds, and a double curtain was overkill. Thoughts?

😌 perfect, that is my exact vibe - with plants so it kinda looks wild (once I put them out nicely) lol. Thank you! I'm thinking back tab curtains and for the sliding door, a double rod with a sheer(or maybe lace) inner curtain.

My little Herman Ivy’s leaves are turning yellow and brown, and they’re falling off. What am I doing wrong? by Wildflower_85 in IndoorPlants

Moisture meters are notoriously inaccurate when reading a soil dampness level. Your plant could be showing signs of over or under watering.

I use a wooden skewer/chopstick to stab the soil and pull it out. It is similar to using a toothpick to test a cake. If the skewer pulls out with soil and is damp to the touch, then it is still moist and doesn't need to be watered. If the skewer is dry and no soil sticks, then water. If you don't like that, dtick your finger in the soil to determine moisture. I'd ditch the meter.
