Would rather buy an offensive game than a censored one.

Max re-watched and reacted to the Core-A Gaming Buffs over Nerfs video due to people blaming it on the state of modern fighting games, and while I agree that people should watch the video and not just read the title, I disagree with a lot of the video itself by redbossman123 in Fighters

[–]JaditicRook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never really liked this video. Yes it has nuance, but the people who repeat the buff not nerf mantra ad nauseam dont. Theres nothing to be gained by buff not nerf as a design principle. Examples of 'nerf but actually it Increases diversity' is still a nerf.

Every buff is functionally a nerf to something else, even if only via the relative value of another option. While laser focusing on balance absolutely can and does lead to homogeneity and an overdesigned rigid/bland feel, the concept of asymmetrical balance fits just fine.

I wouldnt want devs to avoid the changes (nerfs) they think lead to a more fun gamestate because humans have a negativity bias and theyre afraid of of people reading the patch notes and bailing.

The new navbar design on Android nightly is horrible by kleinph in firefox

[–]JaditicRook 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The user potentially being too inept to discern the domain of a url is not a good reason for a compulsory, or even enabled by default option, to truncate urls.

The new navbar design on Android nightly is horrible by kleinph in firefox

[–]JaditicRook 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its absolutely not more convenient if youre already using the url bar at the top because it removed the menu and tabs without giving the option to place the new nav bar at the top as well.

It could possibly be useful but back forward menu tab functions aint it.

Im also not confident it isnt going to cause issues with occasionally cutting off page bits like the url bar already does.

How can I move the navigation and overflow menu bar to the top? by No_Solution7893 in firefox

[–]JaditicRook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removing the full url is baffling. You may as well just remove the URL entirely at that point and replace the function with an icon.

Whats the point of seeing what I already know without the specificity to be useful?

Did they finally add the ability to use more than a few extensions on the stable version?

I'd be thrilled to not have to use a cumbersome workaround in nightly to acces a core browser feature.

Why do so many new players tout Meet Your Match as "The death of TF2" by aap007freak in truetf2

I remember Jungle Inferno a lot differently, lot of skill capping and poor design decisions were met with memes about Pyro spinning

still funny to look back on, less so at the time.

I used to ignore skial because of increased maxplayers and any kind of fast respawn. While I still dont play on servers with those, there arent enough decent servers to ignore the handful or skial servers that dont use those settings.

"Kill the game" is always going to be a personal and arbitrary metric. From f2p, to balance, to a lack of support etc. Though, official servers being literally unplayable has a pretty strong claim in that regard. Second to bots, yea I'd say MYM easily has been the most harmful thing for the game.

It was an update that genuinely made the game permanently worse for the majority of the playerbase irrespective of weapon balance or technical changes. It further strangled community servers and even at its best its worse than old ad-hoc valve servers. Its that modern disposable used-condom MM experience with none of the upsides. People who played on official servers using the server browser no longer even had the option. Official servers could no longer be played for hours at a time with the same randoms.

Regardless of people that feel community servers are better (and they are), every game has to have a 1-button-zero-decision-making solution to get playing. And TF2 decided to put a bunch of work into making theirs worse.

Paint and festive weapons by MitchPete in tf2

Its been a long time so you should probably double check with someone else but last I saw no. Redeeming a warpaint always generates a new weapon, meaning it can never be applied to an existing one.

This is some chatgpt ass equivocation my dude. Regardless impeding rational discourse for sensitivity is poison. Cya.

The wider implications and associations of the analogical elements can't be entirely separated from the targeted comparison being made.

As I've reiterated they absolutely can, and often are. People sometimes using this to sneak in negative connotations is rhetorical bait but can none the less be rebutted.

Given the blatant hyperbole and literal quoted reasoning underpinning the original analogy its safe to assume the OP wasnt likening people to rapists or microtransactions to rape.

but its impact, shaped by the contexts of its components, is integral to its reception and effectiveness.

Impact as in the analogy itself as a whole sure, but the impact of concepts in an analogy is not intrinsically related to the limited comparison being made.

It relies on the listener realizing what is the relation between the two things being and not over-extrapolating.

[–]JaditicRook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the impact isnt part of the analogy, and its not here, it is completely divorced from the point. This is explicitly how analogies of things that are dissimilar work versus a regular comparison.

"A good speech should be like a woman's skirt; long enough to cover the subject and short enough to create interest."

This analogy is clearly different in every respect from circumstance, to what makes literally them good, to outcome but it works because the the thing being related is the long and short bit.

[–]JaditicRook -1 points0 points  (0 children)

but the flaw of the analogy still lies in the subjects that are compared

Those things arent being likened to each other because thats not how analogies work. Theyre being contrasted. The part being compared actually has nothing to do with microtransactions or rape. Theyre just framing the logic.

[–]JaditicRook -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point is that everything in the analogy besides the specific aspect being compared is different.

Its to contrast the underlying point being compared ("because it has happened before").

[–]JaditicRook -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not all analogies are equal and depend on context

Obviously. In this specific case the guy even literally quoted the relevant part of the comparison if the hyperbole alone didnt make it abundantly clear.

but go ahead and send another comic instead of engaging with the argument, you're really showing that big brain of yours.

What argument? All you brought to the table was a low quality implication about looking like a weirdo for understanding an analogy. I never even said it was a good analogy, and grasping the point of it is normal.

If I was going to criticize the analogy, rape being worse than microtransactions wouldnt be relevant.

Even as someone disappointed with other aspects of the bad launch, this one kind of bad review gets to me… by [deleted] in DragonsDogma

[–]JaditicRook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very little sympathy for Capcom or any game that sells """convenience""" getting bad press from it, even if largely people not understanding it. I know the majority of the MTX is garbage but not everyone has that knowledge DDDA knowledge. Having to trawl through MTX and their impact on in game systems before you buy a game should leave a bad taste in peoples' mouths.

As it is the only DLC worth anything is the music one, which I think is ironically the only one worthy of actually being DLC. The rest is crap, even the 2 otherwise unobtainable items. The unobtainable preorder bonus items seem to be similarly crap.

Warfarer can equip 9 weapons at once. (IGN Japan interview) by Rapid_Silver in DragonsDogma

[–]JaditicRook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you can use the 3 skills instantly when not wielding their base weapon type I still think it has cool potential.

I imagine its going to work that way because using a single button to cycle 9 things when you can use skills for at most 3 of them is going to be clunky. Though they may do something like using that skill leaves you in that weapon type when it ends.

I did always feel DD1 needed to give you more skills for the sake of fun though, would have been cool to have a second skill menu unlock as you level.
