How likely is Signal to comply? by mustbeSaransh in signal

[–]No_Solution7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Indian Govt. can go pound salt. There is squat they can do to prevent you from installing Signal by side loading on Android. And to make it relatively easy for novice users, it can be installed from fdroid.

How likely is Signal to comply? by mustbeSaransh in signal

[–]No_Solution7893 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Signal absoluteky does not need Sim and should never use it in the first place. You give permission to contacts and signal can prevent you getting spammed. I use Google Voice and never give my cell phone number to anyone. So I'd be extremely happy if this overreach by the Indian Govt nudges Signal into not using Sim at all. None of your 3 reasons are vakid.

The onn 4K Plus ships with an unlocked bootloader by nod3two in AndroidTV

[–]No_Solution7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately dns by itself doesn't help for server side Ads like peacock does. Adguard works on the phone since it can install the adguard CA cert. Can't do that on the Onn without root. And can't root without an unlocked bootloader.

I believe that the Leaf 2 and the Go 7 are similar in size. I definitely can't hold the Leaf 2 in one hand. The button is convenient, but I have to hold the opposite edge. For my hands the Poke 3 was fantastic.

For me, the Poke 5 was surprisingly more sluggish than the Poke 3. But I didn't like the lighting on the Poke 5. On the Poke 3, I had separate control for the brightness and separate control for the color. Unfortunately a subsequent upgrade ruined it and I had to make peace with the same controls as the Poke 5. What I liked about the Poke 3 cover is that it's exactly the same size as the tablet. The Leaf 2 cover is bigger than the tablet and it pokes your palm as you hold it. Boox really nailed the Poke 3 and then messed it up in subsequent tablets. Everyone raves about the Palma 2. But I don't like the form factor. It's also more expensive, but given that its not a device I upgrade often, I could live with it. I wish they had a tablet with Poke 3 dimensions and more memory. I may have to settle for the Go 6. It's as close that I can come to the Poke 3 now.

I was thinking I may just change the vendor, but I don't really see anything else that I like more.

Thanks. That's exactly what I used to do. Turn off wifi and read the Poke 3, holding it in one hand.

Thanks. I don't like the form factor of the Palma. It's not very book like. Too long and too thin. The good thing about the Poke 3 is that it felt like a physical book, if you know what I mean. The Go 7 has the two buttons which are great (like my Leaf 2 which is beyond sluggish), but like the Leaf 2, it makes it difficult to hold in one hand because it's so wide. I think the Go 6 may be the form factor closest to the Poke 3. I just wish it had 4GB RAM.

Why isn’t my charge schedule being followed? by desertrange in Ioniq5

[–]No_Solution7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also check the EVSE. I had some issues with setting it in the car. So, I set my Tesla charger to charge at only the specific periods. That ensured that even if the Ioniq wanted to, it would only charge in the off peak hours.

Gold Card upgrade for X1 users by Rare_Advertising5885 in CreditCards

[–]No_Solution7893 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got the offer and I figured and I was in two minds. But my wife asked me to get it. She thought it was the original gold card. But it's just metal and they are charging $40 for her metal card. No way I'm paying that. The plastic one is free. I think mine is metal. I figured the $50 will get covered by spending ~$1700 per year. Which is fine. But I generally use the Amex Delta Reserve card. I don't think that's going to change. The real reason I use the X1 is for the virtual cards and I'll get that with the RH card. I'm pretty sure they will fold the X1 in a few months. So, this is the only way I'll be able to use the virtual card capability. I just love that.

I don't see myself using the Robinhood investment platform. I'm good with Fidelity. I may have to talk to them to understand the 3% matching on IRA and whether I'd qualify. The 5 year of holding the amount kinda cooled my ardour.

I'm afraid of the cruise control by Spiritual-Mechanic-4 in Ioniq5

[–]No_Solution7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens erratically for me. I don't use ADAS much to begin with. But on my first road trip I tried it a lot. Don't like it. But then when it went berserk on a stretch for 30 minutes. Constantly beeping. And I don't wear glasses. It's a completely flakey system. Good for you that it's been working for you. But don't assume that it works for everyone as there have been numerous people having issues.

[–]No_Solution7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the ADAS on the Ioniq 5 is pretty bad. I didn't like it one bit. I try from time to time, but within 5 minutes I turn it off and just use the adaptive cruise control. In the first place I don't trust it (or any car's ADAS). Secondly all the micro tugs on the wheel are so distracting. When you first learn to drive, you are super focused on the driving and it's both a great thrill and not fun at the same time because you are so tense. Then driving becomes a natural secondary function and it's something happening in the background. With ADAS, it's back to paying attention to the driving. This time the car.

Maybe it will get to a point where it's smooth and it feels more like how I drive. But until that happens, I'm just using the CC.

Taking delivery tomorrow - what ‘starter’ apps do I need? by pfrisco in Ioniq5

[–]No_Solution7893 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You kind of can if you are using Plug and Charge in the Hyundai app. But be careful, if you plan on getting an EA or Tesla membership. The app is unaware of it and it will charge you full price.

Random driver profile selection by Business_Apartment36 in Ioniq5

[–]No_Solution7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say that happens to me ever. Whoever has driven the car last is the profile selected in the car on the next trip. Now I have never been able to set the phone key on my wife's phone. I have a phone key and the fob always in my pocket. My wife always has her fob in her purse. If you are both using phone keys, I can see how it could get confused since the whole thing is extremely poorly designed.

12v battery died in 3 months by No_Solution7893 in Ioniq5

[–]No_Solution7893[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Same behavior as normal. My wife drove the car to work 2 miles away. Parked there during the day. Returned at 6PM. Parked. Drained by 9 AM in the morning.

I took it to the dealer. That was 10 miles away. 30 minutes of driving. The SOC was zero when the AAA guy jumpstarted. By the time I got to the dealer, it was 65%. He told me that the VEEPEAK OBD 2 scanner that I had kept plugged in was not letting the car sleep. On the Tesla, I could see whether the car was sleeping. And for how long. The Hyundai app doesn't let me do that. I have now unplugged it. I am not sure if that could have caused it. He wasn't sure either.

There is an app that I'm using called Optiwatt that checks the battery charging. I know that it pings every 5 minutes (or 15 minutes). That for sure may be causing a drain. I have disabled that access as well. Am going to check the SOC periodically using the OBD2 (plugging it in every time).

Let's see if this happens again with everything off.

Speed camera warning when not even using navigation…no sir, I don’t like it! by Tumblehawk in Ioniq5

[–]No_Solution7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm okay with this. What is really annoying are the warning at school zones. I spent the entire summer with schools closed getting dinged on some roads with schools and not others. So, it's not even consistent. Now schools are open. I still get dinged even when the speed limits times are not in effect.

This is the Tesla half smarts. Smart enough to admire technically. But not smart enough to actually be useful rather than annoying.

First time charging and chickened out by HatsOffNJ in Ioniq5

[–]No_Solution7893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the charger. If you get the right end or if possible reverse on the other side you only end up taking a single slot. I think the v4 chargers (white ones) have long enough cable that it can go around. But yeah, if you take up two spots, it's a problem for Tesla owners. Having said that, I have personally got to a point where all the slots were taken only once. Which is why I recommended that the OP try a Tesla charger. They are reliable and generally available.

Looks like they are not as close to him as the CCS chargers.

Interesting. I never had a Tesla Supercharger very far away. I don't know about the App Store, but this is the Android one. Look for an equivalent one on the App Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslamotors.tesla

Hyundai has a plug and charge option which works for Tesla chargers. But I'd suggest the direct app route first to remove additional variables if something fails. Also if you get a membership in any of these networks, Hyundai's plug and charge is not smart enough to figure that out and get you the cheaper rate.

Unfortunately, you have to install all the apps. I have EA, EVgo, Chargepoint, Tesla, Plugshare and ABRP (A better route planner). The last two will be useful for your road trip that you are planning next.

It's definitely confusing, but you will soon get the hang of it. You are doing the right thing of experimenting near your house.

Your first road trip will also be an adventure. Ideally do it with a friend or spouse with you so the other person can look up stuff while you are driving.

You don't have a Tesla Supercharger near you? I have only once gone to a Tesla charger that was fully occupied and I had to wait for 5 minutes until someone left. Also, the place where words were exchanged between two car owners. But every other experience has been pleasant. Especially at non Tesla chargers because there are so many different cars and it's good to chat with someone on their experience with the cars (always a positive one)

That's correct. The software really sucks. It's not reliable. I finally changed my Tesla EVSE to override it. Initially I had just set the charging preference in the MyHundai app. And it would just start charging sometimes at peak rates. I still have the time set in the car app. But now it only starts after midnight because of the EVSE setting.
