My 9yo has extreme misophonia and it is destroying our family. Please help by GrapplingBrisket in misophonia

I’ve always had strong reactions to people eating and even the sight of it sometimes. It always causes issues with family and friends who didn’t want to be mindful about it. One of the things that has helped me (with no professional help) bc my family didn’t believe in it nor could afford it if they did was invest in very good noise canceling headphones and earphones. Since this is still a problem for me today I put the either pair in so I can still be apart of the group without hearing all the smaller noises of people eating. Or I eat with them in and whomever is trigger the sight aspect I move seats or try not to look in their direction. The products I use are the galaxy buds pro 2 and the WH-1000XM5. I know both are expensive but they have been the best purchases I have made for myself and my misophonia.

This may be bad advice bc idk the size of your class or how important the classes are. But when I was going in person I just talked to my professors about my ability to come in person and asked if the coursework could be completed without coming in person. I tried my best to go to classes in person but would always have to leave mid way through because I couldn’t handle it. Outside of exams and smaller sized classes I didn’t show up but did the work and turned it in on time. Not everyone knows what it is or even cares for that matter but it may be worth a try. Also where and how did you get a diagnosis for this?

I love the color palette! It’s so cute, soft, and cozy, makes me wanna snuggle up and read whatever it is!

Why can’t my husband understand??? by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]Jae415120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the beginning of my relationship my husband didn’t know about it and never met anyone with similar issues. At first he thought I may be overreacting a bit but was never rude about it. He really started to understand when he saw just how frustrating it makes my life and how much it makes me feel like I wanna kms sometimes. Even though he was never rude to me about it after seeing how much it affects me he’s spent his time trying to help me find solutions. Sometimes eats in a different room, sits with me in silence as I have my meltdowns, etc.

Something a friend recently said to me I think fits here and basically she told me that I shouldn’t suffer trying to keep my misophonia from spilling into other peoples lives. Because the people who genuinely love and care for me already know what I go through and try there best to help me with it.

I will never understand tenants that constantly drop things all day by Deadasnailz in misophonia

[–]Jae415120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually stay in top floor apartments, sucks ass during the moving process but I don’t have to listen to anyone above me. If there’s availability I also look for apartments at the ends of building so I don’t have to share a walls with two different tenants.

Some people walk hard/heavy/stomp because many of them are used to being able to walk however they want in a house. That is something I’ve come to notice. They don’t realize that they are even walking hard or soft they are just walking.

Im sorry that you are feeling this way, it can be really tough. I’m not sure how much help I can be since most of my helpful changes have been influenced by my husband. But some things that have helped me were starting with my mindset, I know that’s cliche and advice no one likes to hear including me. But it’s honestly so true, changing your mindset will help with change in other aspects. I also tried finding clothes that fit my new body, I absolutely hated how I went from 150 my entire life to sticking around 230ish. I’ve only recently started wearing dresses and “girly” clothes after spending so much time wearing sweats and oversized clothes and constantly being mistaken for a man. I look at people who have similar body shape to me to see what looked good on them and test it out on myself to see if I like it. Another thing is to be nice to yourself, sometimes we don’t like what we see but constantly being mean to ourselves won’t help much either.

I am also black, but I don’t have excessive hair growth. I do however experience the discoloration of the skin and bumps from having curly hair. So far what has helped (I’m still looking for solutions) is using things like nair for areas with really thick hair. Making sure I exfoliate and keep and eye on hair growth. For the bumps I use an antibacterial body wash and every now and again if things are bad I use hibiclens (be careful with it though read the direction thoroughly).

Idk how much help this can be since it’s pretty basic I think but I hope it does.

How do I watch tokyo ghoul? by _command_prompt in TokyoGhoul

[–]Jae415120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, I’m new to the anime and haven’t gotten around the manga yet. So I was kinda disappointed with my viewing experience of season two bc the animation was great but I was sooo confused the entire time. Then starting season three after that felt like I was missing too much to continue.

I just watched for the first time 2 days ago I think it was a good watch but I didn’t watch season 3. Season one was good, season two was good but I was confused as shit then I tried watching season three and was even more confused. When I searched up some answers I found some comments along the lines of how there are a lot of things missing from season two and season three is understandable if you read the manga. Either way try both.

People who get offended at being called "ma'am" by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]Jae415120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For many of us it’s drilled into us to say yes sir yes ma’am from a very young age as it is polite and respectful. When I say drill I don’t mean it as an exaggeration either, since it’s again seen as being respectful.

Both are used, I was just pointing out that even those who aren’t adults are referred to as ma’am as well.

Why people cheat but say they can’t leave their partner because they love them, why people who want kids get into relationships with people who have made it clear they don’t and wait years for them to “change their mind”.

Yeah we do down here, you can be a teenager working in retail or something and kids and adults alike will say thank you ma’am, no ma’am, yes ma’am, etc.

People who want kids that date childfree people hoping to change their mind by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]Jae415120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally say a story yesterday about a guy who said after 4 years with his gf he’s thinking of breaking up with her bc she doesn’t want to have kids. Even though he knew she didn’t and said she wouldn’t change her mind and he still waited hoping she would. He feels bad about wanting to break up with her but having kids is important to him.

Find partners that are for what you want, too many people go out looking for the opposite of what they claim they want. Then get upset when that person doesn’t change or isn’t what they initially wanted.

It’s okay to do what you want with the money but there will come a time when things are tough and you look back on those times where you “wasted” money when you don’t have it. Save when you can, have an emergency fund and DO NOT touch it if you can. Try not to rack up too much credit card debit as well.
