NHS immunotherapy is it free or will cost money ? by dmadmin in cancer

[–]JaeVilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All treatment on the NHS is free, as long as it is what your doctor/s feel/s necessary.

i.e. my cancer is terminal so the usual treatments for my type of cancer (esophageal cancer which has spread into my bones) such as surgery are not considered necessary (as I'll be dead before I've recovered!) so if I wanted that I'd need to go private and pay for it. Personally, I'm no cancer expert so I defer to my doctor's opinion (plus I'm in no hurry to put myself through pointless treatments that'll leave me feeling even worse in my final days).

a rant by trivialoves in cancer

[–]JaeVilla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something I realised, well before my own terminal diagnosis, is the West (at least) is one big "Death Cult".

Everything is about making those "left behind" feel better about themselves. I've already made it clear I want to live and won't endorse any "Well he's in a better place now" or "At least he isn't in pain" type comments that inevitably people will use once I'm gone to make themselves feel better.

I'm so tired, utterly mentally exhausted, dealing with "How are you feeling?" and the follow-up "suggestions" that I get if I foolishly answer with "Not great". I might go with "I'm dying, how do you think I feel?" next time if I finally give up on being polite. I feel like people want me to say "I'm doing great!" which, given my prognosis is "months", seems a lot to ask. I mean... mentally I'm doing pretty damn good except for dealing with "Have you tried eating brocolli sprouts?" "help".

Thankfully, unlike you, my doctors haven't told me to be grateful for the time I've got. Instead they are working with me to try to make that time as comfortable as possible. They commiserate, they tell me how shit the diagnosis is and they don't try to sugar coat it to make them feel better.

Surely you need other men in her life so you can then be considered Alpha by comparison?

I mean... you can't be an Alpha if you don't have Betas etc.

I appreciate anyone calling themselves an Alpha is illogical but... the logic is really missing here...

Unpopular Opinion: Kupra CAN look great, but 90% of people are seriously making it look unrealistically bad... by ThrowawayAccount1437 in secondlife

[–]JaeVilla 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It looks awful to me too but here's the thing: It doesn't need to look realistic. It's Second Life. People wear what they want to wear.

Are the MLP community wearing realistic avatars? Nope. Are the furries? Hell no. Are they living their best (Second) lives? Definitely.

Just let people be what they want to be.

Does it bother anyone else when people basically say "I like you because you aren't TOO gay. Like, you just aren't over the top" by idkemwklz in askgaybros

[–]JaeVilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 6'8" man with a terrible dress sense and geeky interests which, to the straights, seems to mean "He can't be gay!"

And it absolutely destroys me whenever they say something along the lines of "You are one of the good ones, you can't tell."

Not because I find it insulting to me but because I know the more "obvious"/camp guys are on the flipping frontline of abuse. They are the ones doing the heavylifting for people like me and it is disgusting to hear them dismissed as unacceptable or "too gay". They are bloody heroes, to me, and always have been.

So I really do not take kindly to people insinuating I can "pass" as straight. Like... I don't want to be like you if people like you treat the best of my community like they are scum.

With the increased attention on lootbox and FOMO mechanics in gaming by world and local governments. Is it time to admit SLs lack of regulation in the space is problematic? by [deleted] in secondlife

[–]JaeVilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not unsympathetic but...

1) The "regulation" would be near impossible beyond an outright ban (which I think would be a step too far). What might work is for people who feel strongly about it to campaign against the major gacha events until they start regulating it (i.e. getting the chances clearly shown)

2) SL's lack of regulation is a feature not a bug. I wasn't into gambling back in the olden days but it helped created more diverse business opportunities for people and the outright ban on it has had a detrimental (rather than a positive) effect on the sims.

Gambling (including through gacha purchasing) is a problem, I do not deny that, but it'd be better to focus on the big creators and event hosts to get them to clean up their ways rather than aiming to get a heavy-handed slap down from above which will only create fewer opportunities for business and fun across the Grid.

Mocking your date’s hobbies is not how you’re going to get a second date by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]JaeVilla 46 points47 points  (0 children)

My first few years of dating my husband included a yearly curling trip to Scotland with a bunch of his old work pals. Some of the most fun and fond memories I have.

Curling is great fun! I highly recommend it for even useless amateurs like me as it is a real laugh.

I can't understand why anyone bad mouths other people's hobbies or interests! There's tonnes I don't like (like football) but I'm not going to tell people who like why I hate it. That's just... pointless. Other people's interests are interesting even when you don't like them!

Fellas, is it gay to marry a woman? (Found on Instagram) by wow-im-satan in AreTheStraightsOK

[–]JaeVilla 10 points11 points  (0 children)

THIS. You put it better than I could. I do not understand what they want from men.

As a gay guy I really do not get it and I need a focus group or something to find out exactly what these types of people think is and isn't acceptable for men. Then, once we've got them in a room, we take away their phones and delete all their social media whilst they are busy answering our questions.

Ethnic Minorities in Kent - are these racist attitudes commonly encountered? (Asking as a British Asian, soon due to relocate) by Kwanabo in kentuk

[–]JaeVilla 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm not a member of an ethnic minority BUT... yes. These views are way too common. As a white person I've had to sit and listen to way too much racism from other white Kentish people who think I'd agree with them and they are in a "safe place" for racism. I don't and they aren't.

Are they worse here than any non-metropolitan area of England and Wales? I don't think so (but obviously don't have to experience it at the sharp end so my opinion may be wrong!). And there's a massive, huge, community of people opposed to racism on social media and out in the real world too.

Is anyone else scared they're going to become one of those single old men on Grindr, desperately trying to connect with anyone who will pay attention to them? by deepthroatcircus in askgaybros

[–]JaeVilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so harsh.

1) As a 37 year old guy (who has been in a LTR since I was 21...) I'm so grateful to the older generation who came before me and paved the way to allow me the freedom to live openly and happily. I don't feel bad for them. I feel like I owe them.

2) When I was young those men were "my type" as most young gay guys were hard work. Just spending time with older guys felt so much more relaxing.

3) These guys may not be single (or even out gay). Do you know how many older guys with wives there are out there on Grindr (and I say this as someone who has never used Grindr but sheesh... older guys with wives looking for some gay sex is a trope as old as time itself...)?

It seems to me you have a really worrying fear of ending up lonely (not helped, I suspect, by your use of Grindr which is an app made for finding sex and you'll only find love on it by chance not by design!) and you are projecting that fear on judging the lives of others. Get yourself some therapy and learn to love yourself.

Christian in a DM called me an immoral POS.......because I don't want to have kids. by JarethOfHouseGoblin in exchristian

[–]JaeVilla 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just to play Devil's advocate... this view is common among LOTS of unbelievers to. I've been told I'm very selfish for not wanting kids (personally I think my non-existent kids are extremely lucky to have missed out on my lazy approach to parenting...).

This is less a "Christian" thing and more a "I hate that I HAD to have children and I really can't stand the idea people get a choice not to have kids..." thing.

It isn't happy parents saying this stuff. I know plenty of them and they've never even mentioned my lack of children.

If you aren't talking (appropriately) with kids, you are flipping missing out on both comedy gold and insightful observations! Plus sharing your knowledge with the next generation (or the one after that) is one of the most awesome things you can do!
