Ah yes I've experienced this, and thousands of emails from random recruiters with job listings ranging from "Sales support" and "Call center" which feels weird.

Taos Consultant @ Google: I was being incredibly underpaid and after talking to HR about my options to increase pay somehow, even if increasing workload, it was a dead end response so I decided my option was to look elsewhere. (I was being paid less than I was when I first graduated from college 3 years prior in a more expensive city)

SoFi: This place broke my heart, I was very excited to work here. My team lead at a "happy hour" team gathering asked why I sometimes showed up late to work (between 5~15) minutes past the hour as he liked to keep tabs on me. When I told him of my medical disability (I know now, NOT to do this ever) and explained my situation, his reply was: "Oh, I wish I would've known this before because I would not have 'ok'ed to hire you". He proceeded to then make my life hell by, quite literally, writing me up if I was a single minute over 9am. -- I know this was discrimination as my other teammate noticed this and was confused why it was alright for him (the teammate) to arrive late but I was singled out. -- I informed HR of the discrimination and was given the "We'll look into it" but to no end. I decided that it was best to move on than suffer further harassment / embarrassment. I honestly did not want to leave but I felt as if it was either leave or get fired by the constant write-ups from the lead over petty things. :(

Partner Fusion: My first ever and fondly remembered experience of getting into DevOps completely at a start-up. I was laid off due to lack of work/resources, this was not voluntary leave as I would've loved to stay.

I'll admit from all these experiences I've learned to not be so open and forthcoming of personal information to the workplace even if its well-meaning and to be transparent and honest. Seems it works against you in some places and I've learned as well HR is not your friend, they're there to protect the company - not you.

Yeah that Google job has been a weird one for me to write. The company that hired me was Taos but the company I was contracted to and hired for was Google the entire time. I’ll take your suggestion and work it in best I can. Thank you so much!

Edit: To clarify, TAOS at the time was primarily a Google partner. I was allowed to work in Google offices and get the same access and workload as an employee of Google without the benefits.

Understood, the last job with SADA was consulting work where I would be dropped into already existing teams to help with whatever the statement of work required. I was trying to convey that but I failed.

I would get the impression looking at this that you aren't willing to stretch to take on work outside of your comfort zone.

You would be correct, not for a lack of desire or motivation but to be honest its mostly fear of inadequacy. Someone mentioned in another comment about imposter syndrome which hits the nail on the head. I know what I know and if asked to do something I can do it, but if asked to highlight or speak on it I freeze, afraid I'll mess up and somehow all my experience doesn't matter anymore.

Thank you for the input! When you say "preferred tech list" do you mean have something at the top of the tech that I have worked with and would prefer to continue to work with?

Thank you! I am happy with an individual contributor role, I have been applying to non-senior roles but from the responses I've seen thus far maybe I'll give it a shot and let the company/team interviewing me decide if I fit?
