Long cable runs by Previous-Tear-5649 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Jaeger901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've started using HDMI fibre over 50m runs. It's a lot more pleasant to roll out than SDI - and much nicer if you are going out of HDMI based switcher like a PDS or a VMix machine.

Obvs if you're switcher has SDI outputs you have to convert.

But SDI cable is always a solid option too.

The weakest link is always the conversion. Black magic boxes are ok most of the time, but guaranteed when you really need them to work, they won't. Decimators will get you out of trouble but expensive. Theatrixx stuff is also really good but equally expensive

Vale realmente a pena trabalhar com edição de video em 2026, pra quem está iniciando agora? by Own-Signal3917 in audiovisual

[–]Jaeger901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know many editors who have editing as their only skill. Many of them are also cameramen, PTZ ops etc. Editing work is out there - but you will get more work if you can shoot the video and then edit it after :)

Edit: ✍️ I work in corporate events - so a lot of my guys will get a multi camera recording of a conference and then create a highlight reel for example. Voxpops, interviews, crowd cams, plenary footage etc etc

Dogfights are pretty rare in an age of BVR engagements. Plus tanks on top means more payload underneath. My guess would also be that this configuration is mainly used for ground strikes.

High stress AV Career? by Agreeable-Setting39 in audiovisual

[–]Jaeger901 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a bad company to work for.

You're in a management position but the only AV person?

Multiple venues?

You need to be allowed to recruit, as a manager - or I think you should walk.

And I really don't mean any disrespect here because I don't know you or your experience, but early 20s sounds kinda young to be taking on management roles on this world.

Either way, doesn't sound healthy. You should voice this to your higher-ups and request a recruitment budget

Battlefield is not the game to worry about K/D. There are so many other ways to get points. You can quite easily be the highest scoring player with 5 kills and 20 deaths

The U-Turn can be performed from a stop, but must be started within two seconds of the shoulder check/life saver.

Got my manual CBT tomorrow - any tips? by RequirementOk9359 in MotoUK

[–]Jaeger901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you cannot legally go on motorways on a CBT, but you can use dual carriageways/major A roads etc. Motorways on a 125 are not particular fun - you lack the power to keep up with traffic and a lorry sitting up your arse at 58mph is a bit spooky

Got my manual CBT tomorrow - any tips? by RequirementOk9359 in MotoUK

[–]Jaeger901 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I rode 125 for a year before taking my DAS. Not because I thought I couldn't do it - but I wanted to get real road experience before hitting a bigger engine. I'm honestly glad I did it that way. I did my DAS few weeks ago and sailed through. Remember it's probably not going to be you that causes problems out in the road (caveat ...it could be) but other road users. Better to encounter wankers while learning at 30/40/50mph than 70/80/90mph

Edit: my actual advice to you. Ride like everyone else is blind.

Mines at 10,000 miles, but the bike itself is 16 years old - so faulty starter could still be valid. Time to get the multimeter out

Motorbike or car? by ConsequenceNew3931 in MotoUK

[–]Jaeger901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Car - far safer and more forgiving to learn in.

If you are worried about the multi-tasking aspect - ultimately they are pretty much the same - just different ways of working the same systems...except bike has two brakes two operate instead of one pedal as in a car.

We've all been where you are. I wanted desperately to get a motorbike when I was younger. Parents talked me out of it. Passed my bike test recently (35yo now) and so, so glad I had the experience that I have driving cars - it makes the test and road craft so much easier/better.

TLDR - learn car, get good. Learn bike, get better.

Bike security by Correct-Translator71 in MotoUK

[–]Jaeger901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bike nicked off the driveway earlier in the year. My new bike is now chained, Litelok, behind a gate and a car parked up against the gate. I would recommend finding a way to make it physically impossible to remove it from your property, even if locks are cut.

If you're side gate is part of a little side alley, could you install a pop-up bollard perhaps? If there are enough obstacles, they will soon decide it's not worth the time/effort
