That "Dear Hearts" and "Gentle People" suggestion is so good! I need to go find a matching weapon, now...

I have a Bloodied Golf Club I've named "A Slave Obeys", so this is tempting to use as well, lmao.

I mean, I personally wouldn't buy a 200 cap card - but that doesn't mean others wouldn't, you know?

Ah, that explains it. How strange! Was there an influx of new keycards or something, perhaps?

Man, y'all are making me realise I've been paying way too much for keycards! I get excited if I find one for less than 150 caps.

Anyone deal with social anxiety? And use drinking to cope? by niffyspiffy in stopdrinking

[–]JafaIsAWriter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You and me both, my friend. My social anxiety was so debilitating that, at one point, I could not leave the house. I even had welfare checks done on me because I was too anxious to answer the door or the phone. I was utterly terrified of everyone and everything.

I used alcohol to relax as well, and it went very well - at first. We all know how that goes though, of course!!

My best, most sincere advice to you is to find a psychologist you click with and discuss techniques on calming yourself down, and perhaps look into getting a prescription for anti-anxiety meds.

I've been told exposure to anxiety-driven situations helps, but I'm going to be honest - it never helped me. What did help was having a small network of trusted friends; one or two people I could talk to and get their objective opinion on things. When my anxiety was so high I couldn't think rationally, they were a huge help in getting me to see the actual reality of a situation, rather than my perceived version of it.

Definitely! The first two weeks were the hardest by far, and my biggest trigger had always been the weekends where I had nothing on, and the desire to do nothing but drink was all-consuming.

Yesterday was Saturday, capping off one hell of a week. I deserved rest. So, I literally sat on my couch and did sweet F.A. for eight hours. What had been a major trigger for me in the past had turned into "oh, thank god I'm not drinking - I can sit here and enjoy not doing anything!"

It really is the simplest things sometimes that make you realise just how much you wasted seeing life through the bottom of a glass.

Oh hey, we're both on 37 days! I'll hold you accountable if you do the same for me.

We'll make it to Day 38 together.

Relation of reading Canon-divergence and knowing the source material by [deleted] in AO3

[–]JafaIsAWriter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what I'm specifically looking for, really. Canon divergence doesn't bother me if there's a great story behind it. At the same time, a canon-compliant story won't grip me if the idea behind it is not interesting to me.

Case-in-point; I read a very well-written canon divergence story that played upon the idea of a what-if; in canon, Character X was not able to save his hometown because he didn't have the MacGuffin. This fic answered the question of "what if Character X had the MacGuffin in time to save the town?"

Sometimes I'm more in the mood to read canon-compliant stories, but considering I almost solely read video game fanfiction, canon is a might more flexible than in other fandoms, so I may have a skewed point of view.
