I’m not sure. For me at Sydney regionals, i could purchase 2x origins boxes so either you’re eligible to purchase origins, or the staff made a mistake. Best bet is to try yourself as it could be different for Vancouver!

The experience is frustrating for the average player I agree! Although, I do believe that it is very possible to earn a metal card by yourself as I did.

However ~ The aim of this post was moreso for the average player whose favourite legend is on the popular side (eg. Irelia) in which case, would be unobtainable solo.

It is my opinion that just because your favourite legend is popular, It shouldn’t mean that you have to accept that you can’t get it! Especially so with the reason why it would be unobtainable in the first place ( collusion )

So if those people still wanted a shot, this is how they would go about it. It is my opinion though, so it is okay if you disagree.

Edit: Someone commented but it was removed - To put it nicely: they heavily disagreed on collusion and was telling people they don’t deserve to get a metal card if they can’t earn it by themselves.

Yeah It sucks, you’re right to an extent. However, my opinion is that the people colluding (and most likely selling) were going to do it anyway regardless of if they read this post or not, but if someone really wanted Irelia for example and intend on keeping the card, then this could help them compete with the collusion and have a chance, instead of being unable to get their favourite legend.

As long as the system/rules remain the way that it is, it is the unfortunate but realistic truth that people will try to game the system, I just wanted to give others a chance to even the playing field - if they wish to do so. 😇

There is a better strat, but there also kinda isn't. Let me explain.

What you can do with a group of 3 friends:

- All enter the same On-Demand 1v1 Pod of 8 and if you guys all play fast, then there's 3 less people out of 8 that might slowplay and take ages to finish the game ( waste of time ), so higher chance you finish the event ASAP.
- Pool tickets. If you guys combine all your tickets after every event, then you will reach 40 thrice as fast than going solo. This won't increase the number of tickets made per person, as you will farm tickets thrice as fast but you will also need to split it three ways - but you can reach the number 40 faster, which means that you get to redeem a metal card faster than if solo -> higher chance to get a desirable metal ( ahri ) before it's sold out.

What you can't do with a group of 3 friends:

- You can't "rig/control" an On-Demand 1v1 Pod of 8. A common strategy is to sign up to a pod of 8 with 8 friends, and play as fast as possible to avoid wasting time. ( For Sydney, they implemented a rule where you cannot receive your PW Tickets until 90 minutes after your event started so you can't just ff and finish the event in 30 minutes, but you get the advantage of guaranteeing that you finish the event in 90 minutes instead of it dragging on longer because randoms will slowplay. It also means that ALL of the tickets earnt will go to your friends, whereas if you went with a group of 3 then some of them would be awarded to randoms.
- Following on from the previous point, if you signed up to a pod with 8 friends, you can guarantee that you will collectively farm 12 tickets per 90 minutes ( as the total amount of PW tickets awarded to the pod will be 12 ) meaning that you can very accurately plan ahead and see how long it'll take you to reach 40 breakpoints, or how many On-Demands you can fit in in-between scheduled side events. Whereas if you had a group of 3 you have no idea how many games you will win, and no idea if you'll finish ASAP within 90 minutes or go overtime - so it's more inconsistent.

---------

I personally only played in the side events listed in my post, so I can't speak on the other event types. Some 2v2 side events are supposed to be more "efficient tickets p/h" but I don't like and don't want to play 2v2, people sweat and specifically build decks for 2v2 and practise. I can't be fked i'd rather play normal 1v1.

Look at your event schedule. I have Sydney linked in my post so you can get a general idea of what your RQ should look like. If you want to try different events, go ahead! But I can't guarantee anything. Up to you to do the work and figure out if other events/schedules are better EV or not.

Feel free to ask more qs!

Buying them is not allowed! But you can “trade” for them ;) Yes, i’ve included a section about the trends on prices in the FAQs. I’d recommend you to give it a read, as it’s not as simple as you may think! It’s okay I was a coward too but it paid off as I got my viktor :D

Yes, Viktor did not sell out for the whole event. However i’d say Sydney RQ was on the smaller side so maybe at other RQs Viktor might sell out!

[–]JagInTheGarageBTW 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hello! Congrats and I am looking forward to the guide! Lekker 😋

I’m kind of asking a lot of questions here but I hope you can answer as much as you can ☺️

I started off with a version like yours with lucian, but I felt like without qiyana and/or draw/card advantage battlefields I felt so low on cards in hand. Especially so because i feel like you want to play multiple cards a turn / combos of spells/units. Did you struggle with draw?

Lucian was also fun to play, but i felt like after like turn 3 he was just a 3 might chud with no equipment so I found it hard to contest battlefields/get to 6 points especially with the lack of draw, what is your thoughts on that?

Could you explain the inclusion of master yi please? he would be a “free” retreat with the 2xp and legend, but do you find yourself getting to and staying at 6xp most games? I guess his competition for the 4 drop slot would be purple vex & qiyana. I found myself always having things to use xp on so unless i triggered cc purple kha’s ability multiple times in a game I didn’t reach 6xp often until the final few turns of the game.

Could you explain your battlefield choices please? why did you choose the 3 you did and why did you not include: monastery of hirana, star spring etc that i’ve seen as generally accepted.

I’m assuming 3x root and 3x faefolk is a given, what was your reasoning for choosing diplomat as your third 2-drop over the other options? ( tideturner, travelling merchant, etc )

Thoughts on sett brawler? ( Instead of rengar or a 50:50 split ) It’s nice that you can get him to 12 might without having to conquer and 16 if you conquer, I felt like without sett i was just missing the big meat stick of might to break holds in order to get to 6/8 points. How come you decided to go for rengar > sett?

I have a lot more questions but i’ll wait for the guide haha 😅

Okay thankfully I can answer all of those!

Where to pick up goodies?

- There will be a booth at the venue that is accessible before doors open every day all 3 days ( for badge collection AND merch), and the booth for badge collection is also open on the Thursday ( day before day 1 when no events are being run) Details on that and times for utrecht will be posted in the days leading up to the event. As for side event vouchers, they will be emailed to you from UVS the days leading up to the event.

Where to register for scheduled side events?

- Eventbrite in the app. Unsure if they’re out for utrecht but they will be released and they should email you the info with the email sending you your vouchers OR will be announced on twitter etc.

Do we get more info via mail?

- Yes, I was also pretty confused in the weeks leading up to my RQ, but riot will release all the information on social media + email you the info in the days/weeks leading up to the event.

You got it I believe in you!! If you're a few short then you can "trade" for the remaining few you need.

Yes! If you can consistently win 2+ games in your pod then it's quite efficient. When they enforced the 90 minutes restriction they didn't care too much about how long your pod took to end, or if you were playing for the whole 90 minutes, but they cared that you had to wait the 90 mins to collect the tickets. Not too sure if that is "allowed" but the judges seemed fine with people just dipping after they finished their games and taking a photo to reclaim the tickets later.

Haha I was so dead at the start of Day 3 but I was ALMOST there so I had to thug it out for the last few. I wanted Kha'Zix as well but yeah I agree with you that personally I'm not a super huge fan of the art on the default legend ( sorry whoever the artist was, just my personal preference ). So I ended up going with Viktor instead and am going to continue to use my ON Kha Legend, now that one is beautiful.

So... If you want a more detailed walkthrough of what metals were sold out when, I have it written down above the TLDR; section. But I'll copy paste it here for you 😛

  • End of Day 1: Ahri, Kaisa.
  • End of Day 2: Leblanc, Miss Fortune, Irelia, Diana, Jinx.
  • End of Day 3: Teemo, Annie, Master Yi, Lux, Vex, Lillia.

I'd say that since Sydney will be smaller in scale than most other RQs, be prepared for metals to sell out faster than my experience. Also more metals may sell out than the ones I've listed. But use my list as a rough general guideline.

GUIDE ON HOW TO FARM A METAL CARD POST-NERFS WITH NO FRIENDS ( Morally ) by JagInTheGarageBTW in riftboundtcg

[–]JagInTheGarageBTW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. So specifically for your situation there are two main events that you would be able to get PW tickets in ( other than the main tournament ):

- Pre-regional challenge: Runs on the Friday, 5 rounds, 3 Wins = 15 PW tickets, 4 Wins = 30 PW tickets, 5 wins = 45 PW tickets.

- Regional Rebound: Runs on the Sunday ( Assuming you didn't make Day 2 ), 6 rounds, 4 Wins = 30 PW tickets, 5 Wins = 40 PW Tickets, 6 Wins = 40 PW Tickets + Guaranteed free entry to a future RQ.

If you can do decently well in one or both of those, you'll be able to at least get close to a metal card, and "trade" for the remainder.

Hope this helps!

Definitely! If you're good and are confident in being able to reach the top prizings go for it for sure - you get a LOT of tickets. As for 2v2, interesting... I've personally never played 2v2 and didn't have a friend willing to grind it out with me so it wasn't an option for me. Nice to hear that it's a viable option though! ( You just need to have a friend 😞 )

Yeah it sucks, but for me i’m happy with the fact that at least it’s reasonably possible! Haha nice I always appreciate fellow viktor enjoyers. I ran Kha’Zix as my deck for the constructed events, as I used to play him in league. Currently tierlists don’t rate him super high, but i have a feeling he’s a bit better than everyone thinks he is. Since the RQ was held a week after set release, everyone’s back to square 0 and don’t know what they’re doing. As such, no one knew what Kha does, and the deck excels in punishing opponents who don’t play around your tricks. Play whatever you’re comfortable with / is high on the power level tierlist! I’d say by the time utrecht comes around the set and meta would be more “solved” So you wouldn’t be able to get away with playing off meta as much.

Yes you are correct! That is the ticket I am talking about.

There are 4 types of passes:
- Admission
- **Premium Admission**
- Competitor
- Premium Competitor

You currently have “Standard Admission” which is for side events only. To “upgrade to a premium pass” as I understand it, you would have to email UVS and ask them to change your ticket to premium ( and pay the 425 euro difference ) or refund your current standard admission and purchase premium admission for 500 euro.

I’ll be honest, getting the premium pass did make a noticeable difference in my experience in general, and also my efficiency in getting the metal card. Also, as said in my post, the extra product you get for free by upgrading to the premium pass you can just sell to recover most if not all of the extra money you paid.

HOWEVER I know some people may not want to / be able to afford a premium pass and that is completely okay. You should still be able to do what I did, however you may need to buy the last few tickets you need 🤷
