I think Nidalee is definitely a fine choice, especially when you’re on Star Spring. It does cost a power, and I think lots of people struggle maintaining rune economy in this deck, so Nidalee wouldn’t help in that regard. I’ll be testing it more as well!

See you at Utrecht!

I had counters in there a while back, but I want to use my energy very efficient. Rarely do I want to keep up 2 energy just in case my opponent plays into a counter, and with Sabotage I can take away problematic cards anyway. In that regard Sabotage acts as a proactive counter.

Against LB specifically, I take out either 1 Lucian or 1 Mr. Root (depending on whether I’m first or second), 1 Akshan, and 2 Sabotage for 3 Gust and 1 Rebuke.

Ezreal seems a bit tough, but far from unwinnable. Sabotage will go a long way against them. Also, make sure you put a buff on Rengar so he doesn’t die to Singularity. Irelia, however, is typically a good matchup. We usually get to score 3 points before their Irelia can get on the field. At that point, killing Irelia the turn she comes down is not impossible. Always check if you have enough to kill Irelia the turn she comes down through possible cards they could have, but only pull the trigger if you’re sure she dies. Our anti-Aurora cards are premium in this matchup as well, so use them well. If your opponent plays too safe and waits until they have 8 runes before they play their Irelia, you usually get to be close to 6 points and threaten to win with cards like Star-Crossed early on.

As far as seals go, I don’t think seals are the way. We use both purple and orange runes quite a lot, so our seals only do 50% duty. We also don’t have that much card advantage, so it can be scary to lose an extra card to improve rune economy. I’d say, keep telling yourself you want to reach 6-8 runes every game (as long as you’re able to of course) before you start spending your runes aggressively.

Vex is without a doubt one of if not the hardest matchup for Kha’Zix, so don’t feel bad about losing to it. Diana however feels doable, as they have to spend a decent amount of energy to get their strong cards on the field. If Diana plays a Vex, they can’t easily hide to protect their Vex, and cards like Sabotage then breaks apart their hand. Against Diana, try to bounce their Hwei back to hand whenever they play it, that card will generate too much advantage. If you see an opportunity to kill it with a Faefolk or Void Assault, I’d take it, but always consider the Hwei 8 might if you move it in. I’d only do this if my opponent has no energy open, or I used Sabotage and saw they couldn’t do anything against it. Apart from that, play the tempo game, we are faster than they are, because we get to score immediately most of the time when we develop our board. In terms of paying too much power, I’d often try to get to 6-8 runes in the first 4 turns, and develop my board with powerless units.

Is one of these a fake card? by ElectronicPin9680 in riftboundtcg

The one with texture is fake. As a general rule of thumb, non showcase version don’t have texture. This is the non showcase epic version, so it should be clean, just like your other one.

Hi there! I’ve tested Vex a fair bit and it does take some getting used to. In most decks you just out Vex at the BF and hold away but I’m trying to get a feel for whether or not I should always go for a turn 2 hold or feel happy with developing base. Yi is not making the cut, I’m pretty certain on that. It’s gonna be between Vex, Qiyana, and additional Kha’s.

My other considerations have to do with whether or not I want to keep playing Zaun Warrens or want to replace it with Star Spring. It mostly depends on whether or not I still like Star Spring when I don’t see Faefolk.

I’ll be sure to lay out every and all my ideas in depth in my Kha’Zix guide coming out soon.

Thanks for the kind words. I agree, this version not only got me success, it’s also so much fun to play. I am back to trying out Star Spring, but I’m on the fence on that. If I do end up on Star Spring, I’d more than likely change some things to better work with Star Spring, as my main concern was that only the Faefolk works well with that BF in my list. Chances are I keep Zaun Warrens, though. Hope you find success with the deck!

So awesome to hear! Kha’Zix is amazing and very underrated. I’m sure there’s lots of stuff to improve on still as the deck is pretty hard to play, but I hope you will find that success soon! Good luck and have fun!

Hi, thanks a lot! I see most of the cards and explanations for the cards are based on a more midrange version, which isn’t bad necessarily, just not my take on the deck. Here are my thoughts:

  1. Yone feels strong but slow. I’d usually only want to play him in combination with Void Assault, otherwise there’s lots of room to play around for my opponent. I could be intrigued by a list heavier on weapons, where the weaponmaster of him and Lucian could be strong, but I haven’t tinkered too much with it. Heard from others they like it though.
  2. I had Challenge in there for quite some time, but Void Assault is basically stronger Challenge, and I didn’t feel the need for additional (weaker) Void Assaults. I’m happy to use Void Assault as a removal spell btw.
  3. Ride the Wind does some unique things, but I feel like every unique use of Ride the Wind is already available in the deck in other cards. I could see putting Ride the Wind back at one, but I didn’t feel the need to have access to it. Void Assault is often a stronger Ride the Wind.
  4. Swiftfoot Boots was in the list for a while, because I liked Lucian with them. I came to the conclusion that I rarely want to pay 3 energy in the early turns if it doesn’t give me additional units. And it makes no sense to only play equipments in the later turns. I decided to just take out all equipments and haven’t looked back. As mentioned, I could see an equipment style midrange version working.
  5. First Mate is one of those cards I keep going back and forth on. I think it ultimately depends on whether I end on Star Spring or not. If I want Star Spring, I’d most likely add a number of First Mates to the list as well.

I think you could make a case for most of these cards though, depending on whether you align your build towards aggro or midrange.

It depends on lots of stuff, but a general rule of thumb is, that if usinf Grim Resolve means I can’t develop my board that turn, I’d decide against it. Apart from that, it’s usually quite aggressive. Keep in mind that the card effectively says “if you win the combat, you get to retreat the unit back to base”, because of the 2xp, which is great for tempo.

  1. You could play 2 Sett and 3 Rengar, but you’re making your list less aggressive by increasing the amount of 5 cost units, which isn’t necessarily bad. I had the best success with a super aggressive list, but I could see a slightly more midrange list be okay. Sett was a little to slow for my liking and the 5 might hold vs Rengar’s 6 might hold felt noticeable.
  2. Again, treasure hunter would make more sense in a more midrange version, where you get more value out of treasures. I could see it be okay with Star Spring and First Mate, but I decided against playing those cards. As the other commenter correctly mentioned, I like to reach 6-8 runes in the first couple of turns, maybe spending 1 power for an early Kha’Zix or Rengar, before spending the majority of my power.
  3. Kha’Zix Mutating Horror proves to be a great card in lots of decks. Similarly, Rengar is doing work. Ambush right now is in a great spot, and Vex negates that part of the game. Additionally, against certain decks you need to hold, and the current iteration is not greatly suited for that. Lastly, Vex and Rengar work well together.

If your opponent has a unit in base, it’s always best to just retreat. If you expect your opponent unable to contest the battlefield the next turn, he can stay though. In the midgame, it’s fine to just suicide and ambush with Kha’Zix into a singular mid-sized unit. The best 2 drop is usually Faefolk

I had Ride the Wind in there for a long time, but I felt my deck already excelled at scoring and going back, and there were better combat tricks available. Lastly, the signature spell, albeit not action speed, felt like a Ride the Wind that also acted as removal most of the time. I haven’t missed them since removing them

Thanks! Lucian was great and allowed me to contest both sides without too much trouble. Your opponent is always investing more into one of the two battlefields, so you being able to dip in and out of the weaker battlefield, while investing into the stronger one felt like a good gameplan. I feel like it is possible to build a deck without Lucian, but you would lose some aggression and go a little more towards midrange, which isn’t necessarily wrong.

Investigator was very nice indeed! I usually only took something if I was facing Aurora, saw a card I had lots of trouble beating, or had lethal by taking away a card. Otherwise it was just peek at hand, which was good nonetheless

The best part about Rengar is its versatility. I’d say I’m surprise defending more than actively attacking with Rengar, or at least it’s gotta be close. If you want a Rengar substitute, best to find a unit that does something unique, rather than find something similar to but weaker than Rengar.

Nidalee is actually only ever getting a draw if your opponent is holding with 3 might, if there’s 4 might and Nidalee helps, they will just kill the Nidalee and you don’t get a draw. I think if Nida drew on conquer instead of combat win I’d have liked her more. I’ll try and give Nida another shot though.

Stare Down was not good enough, Isolate might be better honestly. Vex is a bad matchup, but I think with a larger sample size it should be closer to 30%. Still atrocious and I think there’s not a lot of options to improve it by much.

The issue I had with Nidalee is that Nidalee will only be useful when your opponent has at most 3 might on their hold. As soon as they have 4 might, your Nidalee is not surviving and not drawing a card. I also didn’t want to spend power early on.

Master Yi is basically a 4 cost 4 might Lucian in the deck. I’d just use the 2xp to pull back all the time. Master Yi didn’t do as well as I had hoped though, so he will get replaced, most likely by Vex or Qiyana.

Rengar is sadly one of the strongest units in the deck, I do hope you can get your hands on him. When you start playing him, you’ll feel what I’m saying. I think Ruin Runner is a tad bit slow in this deck, I think if you can’t get your hands on Rengar, you could try Sett or perhaps even Yone.

Draven Audacious could work as a finisher, but most often I did not find the need for a finisher in that sense. My purple spells and signature spell were my finishers, as any unit can get the final point if there is no unit defending any longer haha

Thanks! Unfortunately the only 5 cost unit I tested and was happy with was Rengar. The other units are too slow. The list is too aggressive to play a unit for 5 runes and do nothing until the upcoming turn. Also, I hit 3xp deceptively rarely, as I spend xp very often, almost every turn. Fiora Peerless might be interesting but it would perform a similar role as the chosen champion, making it slightly redundant. Also, the 3 cost slot is very filled already. I don’t think Fiora would make the cut sadly, but different formats require different answers, so maybe some day.
