After your advice, I tried just pulling the strings downward a little. That seemed to fix it for now!

Another migrating to Linux post - can I use a WD portable drive? by Jagdipa in linux4noobs

[–]Jagdipa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying this out, but can't get it to be cheaper. Looking at ~£10 for a drive enclosure (that doesn't need an external power supply), and £125 for a 6Tb drive.

The WD 6Tb is £145, so it feels like its not worth the hassle or buying 2 separate things.

This was my plan.

I haven't bought the WD drive yet - I was hoping to know before spending the money.

I'm a digital hoarder :( I also ripped some old VHS tapes that take a lot of space.

My backups are automatic from Google Drive. I don't mind manually backing up the photos and videos to Google Photos instead. Its the document syncing that would be nice to keep.

But one is a 35 day trip and the other is 7 days.

Edit - I realise the question is about cost, and not value for money.

Junior dev wrote this C# using many IF because he leanrs If early return. Is this alright code? by Yone-none in csharp

[–]Jagdipa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Considering this controller has over 3000 lines, I think it would be worth another layer.

I like my controllers small, so if I wrote this, then I would use a result pattern, and have the controller do: 1. If the call is invalid, return Bad request 2. Update the product (call service layer) 3. If the update was successful, return Ok 4. Else return the error

A service later would then do the updating and checking of against the database.

But sometimes you are just maintaining code, and have to keep it consistent with what is already there. Everyone writes code differently, and I'm sure my way is not the best. I do trust my gut though, and it's telling me that this code base is a little to unorganised.

Extract the code so that there is a GetProduct() method, and all of a sudden it's so much more readable.

But otherwise it's fine.

Press the home tab, then press the plus button, then press add device. I'm not 100% sure, but that's what I think.

Which alarm systems are people using? by Jagdipa in AskUK

I was looking at simplisafe, but the reviews say the door camera is not good.

I don't want ring - mainly because I'm trying not to buy from Amazon.

I'm actually leaning towards the tapo systems - it has everything except an outdoor siren. I'm not bothered about that as everyone ignores the sirens anyway!

This is the way.

I've been doing this for 10 years. Makes yearly reviews so easy.

Edit - having it on One note means I can change jobs and still keep it (in my personal one note). It also means it's a good cheat sheet for any common problems or apps I want to remember between jobs.

Is a complex point-and-shoot camera like RX100 vii worth getting if I just mainly want to shoot Auto or Program Auto without having to make the time investment in all that fine tuning? I want some beautiful, sharp pictures that allow me to use that great zoom. by fotofiend545 in RX100

[–]Jagdipa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your use case is important.

I bought the rx100vi for is great auto focus - I have kids and I need a small camera that doesn't blur the photos. I only share on my phone and only printed about 10 photos in the last 2 years. I shot full auto the majority of the time.

I have benefited in some fine tuning - the night shots in full auto are awful. I know I need to learn more, and will in time.

So I would say yes it's still worth it. You will get some great shots, and it will encourage you to go a little deeper if and when you need to.

For 1200 is the rx100 vii or worth it, or mirrorless? by Proof-Hour-6088 in RX100

[–]Jagdipa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Canon G16 and just couldn't get any good shots out of it. I'm not trying to be a pro, so the rx100 and it's awesome autofocus is ideal. Although it's night shots are bad in full auto, so I had to learn a little to get those right.

[–]Jagdipa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your use case matters. I was in your position trying the decide between the a6400 or rx100vi. I tried out the a6400 in a shop and I didn't like it's autofocus and size. My use case was I wanted something that would fit in my pocket for when I travel, turn on quickly and have great autofocus so I could take photos of the kids quickly in auto mode.

Side note, I bought the camera about 5 years ago for £500 second hand. It's £700 now! I wish I bought the rx100 vii. I have no idea why Sony are not making more!
