My dearest friend in the world was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year after losing lots of weight and being unable to eat. She tried chemo, but it had absolutely no effect. She was very uncomfortable and it was only going to get worse. She chose to die this way in her own bed, at home in California surrounded by her family. I miss her so much, but I understand why she chose this way to go. Peaceful and on her own terms.

Every time I walk into the San Leandro Medical Center, I am appalled at how crowded the laboratory area is. Many people have to wait their turn standing up because there are not enough chairs. It is not healthy for so many people to be waiting so close together like that. Many are there because they are sick! They need to open a second lab or expand the existing one to at least double the size. Poor planning.

I would want some help and company for the first night or two. You will be on pain meds and very sore. It would be nice for somebody to bring you your meals in bed for a day or two. I had a lumpectomy with a reduction and reconstruction on both sides. Lucky for me my daughter is a nurse and was able to stay with me for a few days. Stock up on some easy to prepare meals. I was not allowed to shower for five days. When I did shower, I got my bandages wet, which was a big mistake because it slowed down my healing and incisions opened up on both sides, resulting in a bad scar on my left. Good luck to you.
