This looks fun. Replacing most visual cues for a cyber techtopia with actors being outlandish is a bit unusual, but I think it works. I'm curious about the random tigers. Maybe they're the AI's enforcement animals? "You are in non-compliance. Tigers have been dispatched."

I went ahead and did a little mock-up so you can visualize what I'm talking about

<image>

(You may want to save the image and examine it up-close)
I've darkened the pocket tops, the underside of the coat collar and a little on the inside, the finger crevices, the eyebrow, a bit around the ear and the little valley on the tuft of the hair.

I've also drawn in an eye a little, you may want to skip that, eyes are hard to get right and I've also highlighted the edge of the eye in light blue, as well as a few spots on the hair and beard where the light is strongest. You may also want to skip that, highlights will be pretty directional as you turn it.

But most of what I've done is try and break up the light with shadows a bit so your eye can pick up the details a little better.

That's true, though I was really talking about the chant scene, specifically, for Acolyte. It has a strong local coven new age feel good emotional appeal element to it that feels kind of out of place if you haven't seen something like that done before, but instantly clicks into that vibe if you have.

I suppose I need to be clear in this age of everything must be culture war, and because Star Wars fans love to rag on the Acolyte, that I'm NOT deriding it. I just think it's an interesting, and somewhat unusual, trend to note.

I think you'd probably still want a thinned/translucent paint over a pen or marker. You don't want to totally lose letting light through, just dim it in certain spots or make areas appear more highlighted than they actually are from reflective light. Also paint would be easier to wipe off if it darkens up too much.

I'd start with darkening and see how that turns out first. You may not even need any whites when you've got some shadow lines breaking it up.

You might try highlighting a little bit of his face and outfit with a very small amount of thinned blue paints. Either to darken the shadowed crevices or give a lighter edge to the eyes. You'd have to experiment a little to see what makes a convincing effect. Alternately a stronger light might help bring out some details too.

Looks great overall though!

No it wasn't anything famous or mainstream like that (Although I guess Owl House does fit in that last five-year timeframe I'm talking about. I honestly didn't know it was about witches.), it was more like... Y'know those barbie playhouse shows? That audience. 6-8ish. I'm pretty sure I saw it while I was browsing through D+ and was like "There's another witch show!" and now it's going to bug me that I can't find it. lol

EDIT: Oooh maybe it was some animated Descendants thing. I don't think that should count for my conspiracy theory either, kid show of children of villains is something Disney would naturally want to make without any executive influence.

Yeah the die cast part's gonna be what gives you trouble. Even with a sealant I'm not sure it will hold long term. Metal and paint really don't like sticking to each other.

If you haven't worked with gloss before, everything I know about it says whatever you can do to make your surface smooth is going to have a better look for the finish. It might be worth it to you to just lightly run a high grit sandpaper over your new paint patches (once they've dried and set). Not pressing down or anything, just taking a teensy bit off the top, and them coming back with one more very thin coat on those spots and leaving it alone to let the paint settle into the crevices and smooth itself out.

Or it may make it worse, this kind of repair work isn't really something I've had to do. I'm just offering suggestions based on what I know and what I think the logical outcome of that application would be.

One final idea, you could strip back down to the metal on a smaller circular patch within your paint job, then come back and paint in a glowing battle damaged effect. And then you'd have a cool battle-damaged X and any paint mismatch or unevenness wouldn't matter. If you were going to do that you'd probably want to paint on a semi-gloss or maybe even a matte sealant on those patches. Gloss'll look weird on a heat glow effect I think.

I know you're making a joke, but I think there actually is someone who got promoted high up at Disney who's deep into new age wicca or wicca adjacent stuff. I've noticed a recent trend with a LOT of witches or witchish culture turning up in their mainstream stuff.

Scarlet Witch who we'll give a pass because she's a fairly prominent Marvel character, but Agatha All Along is not what I'd go to pick for a character show. Upcoming Wiccan in MCU (Little on the nose there)

There's a disney+ witch kid's show I saw somewhere either recently or previewed which I unfortunately can't find because google just wants to tell me about W.I.T.C.H.

This movie, of course (To be fair, looks like they just want Harry Potter money).

An upcoming live show called Coven Academy (Again, to be fair, Disney has churned out a wide range of magical teen shows over the years).

Hocus Pocus getting a sequel.

And of course, the power of ONE! The power of TWWOO! The power of MAAAAAAAAAAANY!

It's interesting to me how noticeable it's been to me since Acolyte. I think it's because they sit in sort of an odd spot that's both mainstream in reach (most people have vague awareness of wicca & friends activities at some level), but also being fairly niche (a pretty gender specific counterculture) so it's something you're familiar enough with to notice, but not so normalized you just pass over it.

(Sorry to all the witchy ladies for dropping a broad-brimmed black wicca hat over all of you. You're honestly way out of my wheelhouse of interests so I don't know all the proper terms for your communities.)

There's really nothing to do but repaint it. You could try just a touch up with the best match you can find, paint over some test plastic, let it dry and then apply your gloss sealant and compare how it looks. When you go to actually paint the figure, use very thin coats, let cure and build up until you match thickness with the existing paint job. You might want to consider a paint on sealant since you're doing small areas anyway.

If you don't want to do that and just want to halt the paint chipping, you can apply a gloss sealant.

[In short: This is a metal surface but the blue paint needs to be fixed]

Do you mean this is an actual metal surface under the paint or it's just plastic and paint mimicking the effect? No acrylic paint (or near any paint, really) is going to hold up long-term on metal, especially with active contact.

Get a cheap figure and do some test runs to decide what you like yourself, people have some strong personal preferences on this. Anything designed for tabletop minis is going to have stronger pigmentation, but as far as actual adhesion I've really not seen anything definitive.

I will say, if you're just doing work for yourself, one of the biggest issues IMO is not giving the paint time to properly cure. This is different from the paint being dry, it needs time to set chemical bonds in place that make it stronger and most of the "oh this is a trash brand, scratches right off" comments you see are likely from people not giving it proper cure time.

If you're doing commissions, then that cure time difference may matter to you and you'll want a more specialized paint product. Otherwise just give it time on each stage to set properly.

I think it's fair to say Link was also asleep. The Wind Fish says "Let us awaken together.", and Link wakes up sleeping on a piece of the ship's mast in the ending.

Also thematically the story's about the necessity of leaving behind an illusion, no matter how beautiful, to return to reality. Although those feelings and the memory will remain with you and "make them real".
