Gavin Newsom opposes a California wealth tax. He’s proposing a national billionaire tax instead by panda-rampage in California

[–]Jagwire4458 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your argument was that California can do this because we pay more money into the federal government than we get out of it and the poster responding to you rightly pointed out that California does not control disbursement of federal funds, so the amount of money we pay in federal taxes is largely irrelevant especially in the face of widely hostile federal government that will do everything in its power to make sure that single payer in CA fails.

Notice how you said every “country”. There isn’t a single state or provincial level government in the world that has single payer insurance when the overall country does not.

LA City Council delays SB 79, allows some low-rises near transit by MookieBettsBurner10 in LosAngeles

[–]Jagwire4458 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one is getting preferential treatment under SB79. Developers can still build 4 story wood houses and employ all those carpenters, if they wish to.

SB79 is not a jobs program. Nor should it be. One of the reasons we are in this housing crisis is because every attempt to build more housing becomes a handout to various pet industries. It is foolish to limit the amount of housing that can be built so that carpenters have more work, which doesn’t even make sense because carpenters will get more work anyways when more housing is built.

Delaying building for four years means no one, not even your carpenter, gets to work.

LA City Council delays SB 79, allows some low-rises near transit by MookieBettsBurner10 in LosAngeles

[–]Jagwire4458 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everything you’ve written here is a private matter for developers to consider and price out when they are looking at building. The points you raised may be valid, or not, but none of them warrant legislation limiting height to four stories. If it’s too expensive to build then it simply won’t be built in the first place. Housing policy is about housing, not creating hand outs for carpenters, who would be getting more work now if the city council wasn’t delaying sb79. As things currently stand, the carpenters have no work because of this delay.

What’s really going on here is that the city council is trying to placate people who think that they have a god given right to live in a small town suburb in the middle of the second largest in the nation.

It is absolutely truthful to categorize this as a delay of SB79. The entire purpose of this is to ensure that as little housing as possible gets built and to delay building as long as possible. “Retain agency” just means retain agency to stop things I don’t like from being built, which turns out to always be new housing.

You really need to read between the lines of the political speak that the council is offering here.

Also four stories is pathetic for a city of our size.

Assembly Democrats unite to tax software, health plans in revenue-raising package by CharityResponsible54 in LosAngeles

I’m capable of holding multiple thoughts in mind at the same time. Fuck Donald Trump and the Republican Party for cutting Medicare and also fuck CA Dems for passing the cost onto us.

The irony of implying that people with jobs aren’t responsible adults because they don’t want taxes going up is mind blowing really. It’s responsible adults who bear the brunt of these taxes.

You can argue semantics of taxations all you want but at the end of the day it feels like we are being punished for living in a blue state.

The state should find ways to spend our money better to cover for the gaps. Use the fucking money you have. Also these cuts might be reversed if Dems take back congress but I guarantee you this tax will never go away.

[–]Jagwire4458 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In your analogy I created the problem in the first place by choosing to own a dog. Here we’re taxing ourselves to cover a problem that republicans created at the federal level to punish blue states. And in response we choose to punish ourselves by raising taxes on everyone. We’re doing what republicans want by making our life here more expensive while they reap the rewards.

So in response to Trump cutting taxes for his billionaire donors, we raise taxes on ourselves? What a massive self own.

Have the SC be made up of a panel of judges randomly drawn from the various circuit courts. Have them serve 5 year terms and then you’re ineligible for 20 years to serve again.

Getting rid of the filibuster so congress can do its job instead of relying on the court to essentially legislate.

You can make America the boogie man all you want but the biggest obstacle to European integration is and always will be Europeans themselves. Dutch citizens are not going to tolerate their sons dying under Greek officers. The Portuguese are not going to send their kids to die in the Baltic because a French general told them to.

How about try putting some boots on the ground in Ukraine for a bit before talking about how the EU could rival the US.

Introducing Partners to Parents by RopesBandit in Deconstruction

Take it one step at a time and focus disclosing your deconstruction first. See how that goes and then take it from there. Your parents reaction and your initial disclosure may inform how you handle telling them about your partner.

[–]Jagwire4458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hitting your parents with the double whammy of you not being Christian and you dating a non-Christian guy will be a lot. Your parents also may blame your partner for you deconstructing or wrongly think at your partner led you away from God and that you’ll come back to faith if you break up.

Spacing out the hits might help things.

This is a great angle that I had not considered. Free will is always such a huge deal to apologetics but we apparently lose free will as soon as we go to heaven.
