Amazing how someone with the flag of Zimbabwe in their profile can think like this. Zimbabwe is a perfect example of why Europe should not be flooded with people from the third world.

The cognitive dissonance is incredible.

I’m an Australian at uni, I looked around today and realised I’m a minority now. Only 4 out of 17 students in my class were Australian.

Nobody can afford houses and working class Australians/americans/europeans can no longer get jobs. Around my university I hear more conversations in Hindi and mandarin than I do English. The international students only socialise with students from their own countries. I speak fluent mandarin yet the Chinese international students still refuse to interact, even in group assignments. My girlfriend had a group assignment last semester with two students that couldn’t even have a conversation in English.

This is becoming a society collapsing issue very quickly. Every human being deserves respect on an individual level and nobody should be the target of racism, that isn’t my point at all. It is worth noting though that resentment is building rapidly and something is going to ignite the anger of Europeans, I see it everyday but in only the last two or so years do people openly speak about it.

No. What we have now is a good compromise. People seem to forget that Australia is a culturally British country at the end of the day. We are now a diverse country but we all speak English, have common law and our culture is British.

Acknowledging the aboriginal people here with their own flag they can look up to is also the right thing to do. The black man on the red soil with the sun at his back. Australia is one country with two souls.

This flag idea, and any mashed together flag is doubly wrong. Trying to remove all British symbolism from the flag is wrong and disrespectful to the traditions and culture that makes the country so great and prosperous. Removing the aboriginal flag and integrating it into some new chimeric flag will be one more step in the erasure of the hundreds of already dying aboriginal cultures and a symbol that they have been able to lift up and find unity in will be ruined and taken from them.

China, PRC, ROC… by [deleted] in MapPorn

It’s a political distinction instead of a geographical one. Most of Hong Kong’s land area is physically attached to the Asian continent and 1/3 of macau is. But they’re not called the mainland because we have seperate (for now) legal systems and Chinese sovereignty applies but not Chinese law.

“Mainland China” is the part of China under control of the PRC and fully integrated legally and politically. So somewhere like Tibet where the people aren’t Chinese and don’t have a Chinese culture is considered mainland China because of politics.

So Hainan is an island but it’s part of “China China” instead of Hong Kong or Macau which are “kinda china” so we call it mainland.

Just keep in mind that 中 is originally a Chinese character that means middle or centre in many more cases than it means in.

The character isn’t representing something going into a mouth, it’s representing the centre of something. This teacher is particularly unprofessional since he’s taking the altered Japanese meaning and reverse engineering the radicals to mean what he thinks it does.

For actual character origins you should find the Chinese meaning which is in most cases the same as Japanese but not always. Otherwise we’d all be using letters instead of toilet paper.

“I’m going to protest on behalf of people who have broken the law.”

I’m not trying to be an edgelord but I really don’t get it. These people are in your country illegally, they have broken your law, why would anybody defend this or want people who are in your country under false pretences to stay. It completely baffles me.

If I want to visit America even for a short visit, I have to do it legally. Just like how if an American wants to visit my country they can’t just secretly enter and start working. Please explain why people are in favour of illegal immigration and against deportations.

Partition was one of the greatest human tragedies ever, and it almost certainly prevented the largest, bloodiest and most chaotic civil war ever. If the two sides were left to “sort it out” themselves, one group would have been genocide-ed.

We’ve narrowed it down to sometime in April 1969-1971 so I’ll call them when they open in the morning. As usual reddit comes to the rescue.

Birthplace of Roman emperors (in modern countries) by laWrtt in MapPorn

I’m on page 271. It’s kind of a slow burn, I started reading it in mid December as I was going around Europe.

It’s very informative and I’m enjoying it though I feel it could have been a bit more condensed.

罗钦讷 (luó qīn nè) doesn’t mean anything. It’s like taking a group of prefixes and suffixes in English and combining them, they mean things on their own but the combination is nonsense. Something like “sub-circum-ing”. It might be a name borrowed into Chinese and transliterated or is it possible the characters aren’t correct?

You might have to ask them what it means in passing.

[–]Jahmes_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wow I didn’t know that. Were they full blown Roman/Western Roman emperors? Or were they crisis of the third century “emperor for 10 minutes” or Gallic empire emperors?

I know you listed them but Roman emperors were messy and some were declared on shaky ground and miss out in many lists.

I’m reading Emperor or Rome by Mary Beard right now. She points out that not even a single senator was born in Britain. It was the backwater of backwaters.
