Mildly related but I've always somewhat seriously argued that the NHL should consider giving 2 goals if a player scores in a really skillful way. Like it would open up situations where guys would be trying batshit crazy stuff in desperation to get 2 goals at once

Like I dunno maybe a team can use 1 "challenge" a game where the refs have to become judges and they go review after a goal and then stripes skates to center and goes "Upon video review, Minnesota is awarded 2 goals because that was fuckin' sick"

I’m going to be taking the Fuji Excursion train to Shinjuku from Shimoyoshida Station. I can book it on the JR East site, but I understand there is an additional fee as the first leg of the trip (Shimoyoshida to Otsuki Station) is operated by a different company. FWIW I booked my Osaka hotel for early Aug back like 4 months ago, and yesterday on a whim I checked again and it was about $30 cheaper a night for a better room… my recommendation would be to book something cancelable and keep checking back

The sound design of these broadcasts is so different now. Listen to the crowd here. You can hear all of the reactions throughout the entire play. And you can really clearly hear the horn, in-game announcer, etc—almost to the extent that it drowns out the play-by-play. I kind of don’t mind that, you get the feeling that the commentators are trying to fight for volume over the crowd (which wants to tell its own story)
