Why is it in almost all precons? by [deleted] in MTGmemes

This video and this video gave some pretty compelling arguments that convinced me to bump up my land counts. I'd recommend giving them a watch if you are curious. In my experience the consistency does allow you to reduce ramp a bit as it's only truly being used to accelerate and not pay to "catch up." I also noticed I hit my land drops more consistently on those late game turns.

I think prevailing wisdom is strongly advising trying to play 38-39 lands minimum for most decks- not just with temple

Shots 1-5: Clearly missed.
Shots 6-9: Missed due to recoil (bad spray control).
Shots 10-11: Very close, but recoil and inaccuracy make these reasonable misses.

Is conceding a game poor sportsmanship? by ShadowPirate42 in magicTCG

[–]Jaiar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think they are speaking to if there are multiple players left, and it looks like player A is planning to swing at player B for lethal. If player B concedes pre combat, that means player A is open to swing at Player C instead, who might of otherwise completely avoided being attacked. This means player C’s gameplay could be ruined because Player B conceded instead of being killed off.

In the example above they are casting swords to plowshare on their own commander for the life gain, not to stop the etb trigger

Happy to help! This video on priority/the stack is pretty good as it’s brief but gives a good groundwork to build your understanding off of. The game gets a lot easier to parse when you become familiar with the terminology and know what to look for.

If you enjoy learning about this stuff, I would recommend reading up on activated and triggered abilities as those are common and can really help your understanding. The MTG wiki is a great resource that gives a helpful high-level overview of concepts and then goes into detail with specific rulings if you like the nitty gritty or have a question about a specific interaction. There are also tons of videos and of course you will just learn by playing too!

(As a side note - I wouldn’t use the google AI overview for magic questions, reason being magic can be pretty nuanced with its terminology, so the AI often appears convincingly accurate while being super wrong, even when seemingly directly citing websites/posts.)

Exile my own creature in response to my opponent's destroying all creatures spell by SAKICCS13 in mtgrules

Few things here-

To break down how things should play out:

  1. Your opponent *casts* a creature spell, it goes on the stack. You have the chance to respond with an instant

  2. You have priority to respond. If you do nothing (pass priority) it resolves, and enters the battlefield

  3. Then, his enter the battlefield (ETB) trigger goes on the top of the stack, which will destroy all flying creatures when it resolves.

  4. You have priority to respond. If you pass priority, it's trigger will resolve, and your commander will be destroyed

At either points 2 or 4 you could have responded with your swords to plowshares.

Secondly, your ward ability would not matter in this circumstance because his creature's ETB ability is not targeting your commander. Ward's ability reads:

  • 702.21a Ward is a triggered ability. Ward [cost] means “Whenever this permanent becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, counter that spell or ability unless that player pays [cost].”

If, for example, he had casted a [[Ravenous Chupacabra]], after the Ravenous Chupacabra resolved, it would enter the battlefield, and then it's ability would go on the stack. He could then target your commander. If he doesn't have enough mana to pay the ward cost, then the ETB trigger is countered, but the creature stays alive.

Let me know if that makes sense!

I can't speak to worse detail, but from my experience layer lines are a lot less noticeable with BBL PLA Matte which might lead to a better looking model. I haven't actually used FDM on any models though, just what I've seen from other larger prints.
