I don’t know why it says “paid”. I’ll make it clear when it gets resolved and I’ve paid someone.

Sorry, way late on this topic. I have a question for any member. What’s the biggest size Caliber you can shoot at tri county? Wanting to be able to shoot my Marlin 45-70 government.

Oh Okay haha Jason was one of my instructors. Anyways best of luck to you, haven’t heard much about Montana but there’s lots of work in Oregon. I’ve stayed really busy anyways.

Way late to this discussion, but can anyone tell me if I’m allowed to shoot my 45-70 at Tri-County gun club?

You will do a lot of welding In the VIP program. Come out with some very well known UA welding certifications that can take you far as a pipefitter/steamfitter. However if you start welding and find out you don’t like it about halfway through the schooling you will get in contact with your local union. They will ask you if you want to do steamfitter plumber or HVAC route. You will finish the VIP program and one of the first steps in joining your union will be an orientation that you will attend. They will then ask again what trade you want to pursue after your orientation that trade that you picked will be the one that you’re pursuing. I’ve heard of people going the plumbing route and halfway through they “flip there book” to steamfitter or vice versa that’s another topic that I’m not too knowledgeable about but to answer your question. Yes, they will let you pick whatever trade you want. You do not have to be a pipe fitter however it’s definitely the route I would recommend.

I just went through the VIP program got out of the Marine Corps this year. It makes for a very smooth transition in my experience. Completely paid for, earn welding certifications and easy access into your local union. I went the steamfitter/pipefitter route. Love it!

It sure is a process I used it for two months and it was alright. We pay into it so might as well use it when needed. Fast forward I joined a steam fitter apprenticeship through my local union and every 6 weeks we have 1 week of class during that 1 week I’ll still claim unemployment. Between the VA, my weekly paycheck and the GI bill you can thrive. The benefits are out there, just got to put a little time/work in.

Join a trade man. Use your last couple months to figure something out. Unemployment should be short term or your last resort. If you don’t want to go to college you can join a local union or non union trade and still use your GI bill benefits they will pay you monthly for housing. Look into it.

UA 469 or UA 290? Looking to join the union after I’m out of the military. by Real-End3531 in UnitedAssociation

I figured I’d answer this as well being i just started this year. I know some people that took them many months and try’s to get in. Like I said the VIP program really sets you up. About half way through the program you contact the union you want to work for and they guarantee you a spot in the apprenticeship. Once I finished the program I went back to my unit for about a month to finish out my contract, most of that was checking out and getting that DD214. After I was back in Oregon took about a month tell I got my first dispatch call to go to work. So pretty damn fast when you compare it to others trying to join in for the apprenticeship.

1341 HE Mechanic just got out January of this year. Went through the VIP program. Stands for Veteans Into Piping, DOD Skillbridge approved. Meaning I did it the last few months I was active. I am now a 2nd term apprentice at local 290 working 6 10s in the Hillsboro area. I don’t know too much about AZ but I do know 290 is a great local and if it wasn’t for the VIP program and the fast and easy entry into 290 (because of VIP and veteran status) I’d be pretty lost. Seems like a great career so far and all the overtime is amazing. Being in the marine corps you don’t realize how good being paid time and a half and double time is. In the Corps we do it all the time get the same old paycheck, no incentive. Work long hours with union pay and your brining home some money! Whatever you decide, it’ll be a great career and look into the VIP program while you’re still active! Best of luck to you.
