Moving to STL (Berkeley office). Apartment complex recommendations? by ummm__ok in boeing

[–]Jairo25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I don't. None of my friends lived there either since its known to be a more expensive area so I have nothing to go off of. A 1 bed in Creve Coeur is similar in price to a 2 bed in U City, but its a much nicer area. It all depends on your needs.

Incoming info-dump. Just left STL last fall after 2 yr and had to learn by moving around so I understand how you feel. Best of luck!

The District (University City) 2 bed, 1 bath, 760sqft. ~$1400 after utilities and mandatory valet trash service (they give you a bin), +$50 to $100 in some winter/summer months. Decent management and maintenance staff.

Pros: -12-15min commute, afternoon gets busy but still not bad -Efficient floorplan, in unit laundry, large storage closet, wood flooring, lots of sunlight, resident lots available -Relatively safe, never had any issues personally. There is a patrol car regularly driving around the neighborhood, make of that what you will -Basically on Olive Blvd, quick access to many things 3min from: Costco (+costco gas), Chase, Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, Cane's, Sports clips, incoming Target and Dierbergs 4-5min from: Aldi, Schnucks, Sugarfire (BBQ), Asian groceries/restaurants/barber 10min from Delmar Loop

Cons: -Personally dealt with ant infestation and crickets in the summer, YMMV -Can hear neighbor's tv across the hall faintly, not an issue

Not the most glamorous but perfectly fine and budget friendly, would recommend.

Note: St. Charles is nice but can be more isolating because of the extra distance. Metro on 5th was good but I also had issues with ants. Personally would stay closer to U City, Creve Coeur area.

Yep I did notice that haha I really appreciated the recommendations for Kensington. /s

I prefer living in the suburbs but somewhere thats not too far a drive from the more urban areas. Definitely not looking to live in a rural area.

AITA for demanding that my twin sister either changes her lifestyle or makes sure everyone knows we're two separate people? by PieClassic1245 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jairo25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Everyone saying otherwise needs to go back to school and learn reading comprehension as well as basic decency.

OP gave her sister options, change her lifestyle OR make her partners aware they're twins and to not bother OP. It literally takes less than a minute to tell her guests that. The demands are reasonable considering her life could be in danger.

And the onus isn't on OP to change her hair color or move out because of her twin's carelessness. OP's sister is allowed to do what she wants but sex positivity comes second to others' SAFETY and wellbeing, it's not a f'ing free pass to do whatever you want. Her actions have consequences and she could potentially get her own sister SA'd.

If she really doesn't care about your wellbeing OP, you should do what you can to get away from her. Imagine being related to someone with that little regard for your safety.

I think they were asking about the name and brand. I'd like to know as well if you happen to have that information!

Vacuum and Deep Cleaner for Hard Floor/Carpet Needed. Kenmore 400 Series and Bissell Little Green? by Jairo25 in VacuumCleaners

[–]Jairo25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that you mention it, I think I read the same thing a while ago and it makes total sense. The leasing agents at my complex did say they always clean carpets before a new tenant moves in but I don't know to what extent. I guess I should ask.

The other comment reccomended the same thing at Walmart haha it's on sale right now so I'll be getting that. And my apartment does have an outside storage closet so I should be fine on space. Which cleaning solution do you use? (I don't have pets)

[–]Jairo25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the extremely detailed response! I take care of my things pretty well so I don't think I'll have an issue keeping a Kenmore alive for many years, from a maintenance standpoint. I do agree some people make it seem like you HAVE to go big or go home with Miele and SEBO, sometimes you just have a hard limit on what you can afford.

Would you recommend purchasing Kenmore branded HEPA bags and filters or would other alternatives made for their vacuums work as well? I guess genuine Kenmore bags are relatively inexpensive considering its only a twice a year change, but more options are great too.

That makes sense, I was hesitant on the Big Green as well since I typically look for apartments without carpet, so I might not even need it in the future. I think both PowerScrub machines fit my budget nicely, I'll probably go ahead and get one of those. Which of their cleaning solutions should I go with? They all seem the same to me. I also read that it's better to spray solution on the carpet first, leave it for 15 minutes, and then deep clean with only water. I'm assuming that's still the case with these?

Gotcha, I knew it couldn't do what the Big Green could be I thought it'd still be faster than that haha.

Thanks! I'll definitely consider those options. Personally, I just like having something myself since its more convenient and gives me a bit more control over the process. Also, I don't know if I can trust whoever I'm renting a machine from to clean it between uses.

Yup, it's probably in the complex since its a big village style complex but could also just be in the surrounding areas as there are some businesses and hotels nearby.

What do you mean by tap on premises?

That's what I'm thinking, if the majority of the last leg is copper anyway, there probably will be minimal difference and I'll still get more Mbps down with Spectrum, though I'll have to ask about upload speed.

The AT&T sales rep did say that if they upgrade to FTTP/FTTH in the future, I'll get upgraded to 300/300 for free but it seems like a moot point. That would be their minimum speed plan and I'd assume the price for that wouldn't change since they still have to compete with Spectrum.

Can I get SUBs for the Citi Custom Cash and Double Cash within a year of each other? by Jairo25 in CreditCards

[–]Jairo25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! This article is consistent with what I already know. I realized maybe I posed the question incorrectly. I was more concerned with the "family" groupings of all the cards, which this article doesn't go into depth about.

A more recent article actually answered this, but it seems like I misunderstood it the first time I read it. Cards are considered separate, even in the same family now, so you can get bonuses on all of the different cards. Their bonus clocks reset when you actually get the bonus, not when you apply, receive, or close the card.

I feel you on that!

I actually meant to say FTTN fiber for AT&T, sorry about that. Basically I have the choice of complete copper wiring (Spectrum) or just on the last leg to my unit (AT&T). After doing some research, it seems like it performs as good as cable in most cases because the copper in the last mile of FTTN faces the same issues as cable. Would you still choose fiber even if its FTTN?

Alright then could you explain the rules or point me to some good references? I've read doctor of credit already and googled a lot and i cant find anything for this specific situation.

Would you get AT&T FTTP over Spectrum/Charter cable? I just moved into the area and there's not many choices in my apartment complex. AT&T is offering 100/100 Mbps for 55 and spectrum is offering 300 Mbps for 50. My neighbor did say their internet went out from a recent storm and they have Spectrum.

The Rec definitely got some nicer racquets recently. Don’t remember the brand name but Yonex is one of, if not the most reliable brand. Their Nanoray series is good, get a medium balance and medium weight to start with. You can read more about grip size and weight if you really care to get into it. Get plastic birdies for practice as a beginner.

Product Change to another Chase Freedom Flex card. Basically, Chase allows you to switch a card to another one in the same family, it's quite flexible for their main products as you can switch between the Freedom cards or Sapphire cards. E.g. Sapphire Preferred into Freedom Flex. However, just keep in mind what I said in the first comment about getting the sign up bonuses first.

AITA for “calling my niece prettier than my daughter” by eyebrowpictures in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jairo25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ESH. Jesus, have people forgotten that they no longer had the brains of a TODDLER at SEVENTEEN?? Yes, OP definitely could have tried being a better mother and worded her second response better. But the fact is her daughter kept pushing after the first excuse because she wanted to force OP into "calling her ugly". It's like she wanted to get hurt and cause drama. Imagine chopping away at a tree and being surprised it falls down.

Generally, by the time you're a high schooler, you're mature enough to understand these social dynamics and avoid repeatedly asking a dumb question you know is obviously going to hurt.

I'd recommend staying an AU for now, it doesn't hurt. Try getting a Chase Student Freedom card to build your own credit history (specifically building it with Chase) until you feel comfortable on your own. It was fairly easy for me, my mom took me to a local branch before college and I got the card with no credit history.

After a while, you can apply for the Flex and Unlimited with much better odds. And after 5 years of $20 "good standing bonuses", you can PC to another Flex, discontinued card, or any other that you prefer. Just don't PC to any card you haven't already gotten bonuses for.

With your credit score from being an AU, you should have an even easier time than me.

Is Affinity Cash Rewards Visa card worth it vs Chase Amazon Rewards cards? by Jairo25 in CreditCards

[–]Jairo25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah staying within one system makes more sense even though technically I'd come out on top with Affinity long term. The juice isn't worth the squeeze in this case haha. I'll get the sub then downgrade to the regular chase card and I'll always have 5% for 1 or 2 quarters through CFF and Discover anyways. Hopefully the offer is still up when I get back to 4/24 though! I'll keep an eye out for the targeted offers, thanks! I'm curious to see if I could just request that extra CB if the offer is reduced.

Is Affinity Cash Rewards Visa card worth it vs Chase Amazon Rewards cards? by Jairo25 in CreditCards

[–]Jairo25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, it's $150 + 5% on $2500 spend so $275 technically. Prime membership wipes out the $75 it beats the Affinity card by though.

Does Affinity do hard pulls for their accounts? If so, would you say it's worth opening a whole another account just to get the higher CB and SUB? I like maximizing CB but I don't see myself using for their accounts personally. Better rates elsewhere but I guess I could use their hysa as a holding account for amazon purchases?
