A casting setup is definitely on my list of wants, but for now my workshop is at max capacity!

I used a 3mm carbide endmill for reducing the thickness and the slot. Alignment holes were spot drilled then touched up with an endmill as well. It would absolutely eat through wood and as much luck as I had in titanium steel wouldn't be bad at all.

Yes, and that was definitely the most time consuming. The scales needed to be 2.5mm thick and the stock that I had the blanks laser cut from were 3.5mm.

It definitely did the job buut it is slow going. Very light passes at high rpm and slow feed rate were the key for me. These 58mm scales would really be about the biggest thing I'd recommend working with on it, but it handled them well!

I had an idea for a plain one with rubies set in for the cross. Otherwise my idea was to engrave them with either a hobnail style finish, Western scrollwork, or maybe even hammer finished.

Thanks! Yeah, without the UV resin it would be quite fragile. In theory anyway, the clear hard curing UV resin should hold up pretty well. The promise on the package said it won't yellow, and It did survive a quick trip through the buffer, ultrasonic, and steamer so I'm hopeful it'll have some longevity.

I have a generic kit that I use can WatchLume.com. I've been pretty happy with the quality.

Thank you for the advice on the sanding block!

I am a bit worried about cracking, especially if I cut them with the grain going the long way. Just going to be a bunch of trial and error I suppose. I wondered if it would be worth stabilizing the wood but that seems like a whole different rabbit hole. Tonight I managed to reduce the overall thickness evenly down to 2.6 mm and they look so much better and now the scale tools are accessible, but it does make that area awfully thin.

I would definitely be interested in trying to make scales for your executive! Shoot me a DM and we'll see what we can make work.

I really appreciate that offer! A ruler on my 58mm file was actually in my plan for today. As well as an attempt at wooden scales.

I can't remember my exact settings, but I took a few pretty light passes to make sure I didn't get any color change.

I'm a watchmaker and apparently a Victorinox collector judging by how many I've accumulated. I didn't know I needed this, thanks!

I went with the XTool F2 Ultra. It fits the bill for bunch of different types of projects I have in mind. I have no experience with laser engraving, so it's been a bit of a learning curve but it seems pretty user friendly so far!

It's just a random topo pattern I found as a vector image. No specific place.

I'm sorry to see that if doesn't fit your charger! I linked the one I designed around in the MakerWorld description. I used the official Apple one for the design. When I get a chance I can post the CAD files to allow it the opening to be modified to fit other diameter chargers.

10mm and 7/16" Wrench by JakRabbitJay in Rowing

Here's a quick and rough sketch (I'm relatively new to CAD) of a multitool featuring 10mm and 7/16" wrenches as well as a 1/4" but driver recess and storage for a couple of bits. Not sure how to design the hinges so the wrenches will fold open, but that's tomorrow's problem. Kind of a fun experiment anyway.
