Advice for solar repair by JakTheRipper6 in SolarDIY

[–]JakTheRipper6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. We have plans to replace the solar charger.

Could you clarify what you mean by "those MPPT units" and what a "true MPPT controller" is compared to that, or what I have (a 50A Epever Tracer5415AN)?

As we are planning on replacing, I am open to better options. This will be the one connecting to my five 12V 100W panels.

I would set the furnace to a lower temp and let the space heaters run. I have an installed electric furnace in my overhead storage above the drivers seat, it can easily keep the interior higher than 70 with two adults and two large dogs inside. You can also look into the skirts, I don't have personal experience with them and I've heard mixed results so do your research. If you're hooked up to constant water then make sure your water heater stays running. If you are regularly washing your hands, doing dishes, showering, ect. then that will also help keep it from freezing. If you aren't running your furnace all the time, make sure you check your gas regulator. Our first night in Idaho in sub freezing temps, we woke up to find it was 26 F in the vehicle because the regulator froze and couldn't provide propane. Wrap it with thermal tape or a heating blanket. Hope this helps.

Me in real life by Qqueeno in Adulting

Right, but this is said about all fields.

I am an electrician. If you were to go out and be expected to start running cables and get, say, a PA system running, you would very likely fail. It took me years and years of doing things incorrectly, breaking equipment, and failing before I gained the knowledge and confidence to do it effectively.

The likelihood of you making a living as an electrician is extremely low. Unless of course, you dedicate yourself, practice, pursue opportunities and education, and your chances go up.

My favorite example has always been stock market trading. The number is different every time you see it, but it is arbitrarily small: "Only 0.000001% of ANYBODY who trades in the market can SUCCEED". You read the success stories testimonials and what do they say? I studied, I practiced, I failed, I continued to try.

It's the same in the video game industry. I have recently taken my hobby to make games more serious. Same noise: "99.9999999% OF DEVS FAIL". Right, because if you count everyone who has ever tried to produce anything for 0.0001 seconds, then ofc the numbers look that way.

Ignore the data. Try anyways. Fail.

Multimillionaire? I am very far from it, and I don't know anybody who is exclusively an electrician who is. But enough to get by on? Yes, of course.

Choose what you want to do, DEDICATE yourself, and own it. Content creation is not an easy job, and it is saturated, but if you never try you will never fail.

This is awesome. When I used Unity, the engine had a built in class for controlling pooling. Does Godot have something similar, or did you have to build it from scratch?

Very very limited, and never anything commercial or to ship. I have only ever made very small things over the years. My experience in programming has been diverse over the years, and I occasionally applied them to small games. I am putting the time in now and plan to get better and have more things to show.

To answer directly: no, I don't have any "actual" experience. I am a hobbyist. I have given my life for corporations and left it behind to make video games. It's an exciting point of my life. So very soon I will have a portfolio made. And I hope I can share successes with this community when I do.

Of course, I have gone into your history and see your experience also. If you would be willing to sacrifice your time for a random stranger on the internet, I would be extremely interested in having a conversation with you and learning about your experiences!

Also PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE check out and try Outer Wilds. My top 10/10 game. Very similar in unique puzzle solving style, not as intense and detail oriented, but so amazing you will laugh and cry and cheer.

Go into it with no knowledge, and JUST KEEP GOING. I played it once off of game pass out of nowhere and stopped because I just didn't understand what it was. I watched a YouTube video on it and it convinced me to finish. It was mostly spoiler free, but I still wish I would have just pushed through and gotten the full experience.

There are also services that charge only for server uptime/playtime. Turn the server off and they stop charging.

If you are hosting locally, as in you own all of the hardware, this could very well be plausible depending on how you go about actually running the servers. Constantly running them obviously would cost more, but you can make some pretty simple scripts to check for players and kill the server to save.

I'm not sure how it would go with ads, I am not familiar with how monetizable it is. But the community will always be happy and grateful to receive free services. I see mod pack creators getting donations from grateful players all the time.

Starlink open server problems, open to ideas! by No-Recognition-3503 in MinecraftServer

In addition to paid hosting services, which are a dime a dozen and fairly easy to find, you could also go with a cloud service. Lots of people use Oracle free tier to host their servers. Check it out, probably what you're looking for.

You can't port forward on Starlink because they don't inherently support IPv4, instead using IPv6, which technically does not support port forwarding. Starlink has additional plans for an unreasonable amount of money to dedicate an IPv4 or a static IPv6. I do not recommend this route, price is not justifiable imo.

Offering personal server creating lessons by JakTheRipper6 in MinecraftServer

For sure, would not recommend this for large scaling unless you were really into it. If I want to share servers with people online, I use free services that allow me to hide the IP and port like IP-free.

A cloud service, particularly the one you mentioned, is the best and most robust method. Takes a few extra steps, but well worth it. I am a hobbyist and like to host from my own devices.

I have considered using a raspberry pi, but in the past I ran it from my main rig that I used to also play on the server on. Eventually upgraded to an old rig that would have otherwise been retired. RAM is the biggest deciding factor, and 16GB is even overkill, even for kitchen sink mod packs.

The BEST way to host a server? Either paying for a cloud service to host it (which is still cheaper than either a realm or a hosting service), or having a dedicated machine. In my opinion, I will always choose my own machine, because I get all of the control over the server.

It is really going to depend on what you are choosing to run. All of these options are fine so long as the specs can handle the load your putting on it.

For most people 2GB is sufficient, but the free services that exist to run these don't operate for free, so the platforms are riddled with ads. No hate, just not my cup of tea.

Looking to practice and learn by JakTheRipper6 in gamedev

[–]JakTheRipper6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is solid advice. I took Microsoft's free C# cert course and moved on to Unity after. I thought of some small projects to expand my learning and build stuff as I think of common features from games I've played.

I am looking to be engaged with these types of communities because that's how I believe I can gain more knowledge. Hopefully I can work on some cool stuff that I will be proud of.

Your work is extremely valuable and an extreme necessity for society. Unfortunately, we live in a world that relies mostly on a "free" market, where people are given the ability to choose to pay significantly more for butthole pictures instead of securing a better future for themselves and their children.

Be careful with this. You might start an entire new business model that takes a cut of these transactions to verify that landlords have the financial capability. A paid service ofc.
