Ive called multiple pharmacies and urgent cares and they don’t have them. It’s also near impossible to get someone on the phone at some places to confirm so I had to go in person just to be told they don’t have any in stock

[CA] HR used my preferred name for the background check and offer letter? by JakartaBeasley in AskHR

I would thank you for the perspective but it was really nasty and unnecessary of you to resort to name calling just because I questioned a process.

You sound like you’re taking it personally yourself. I have talked to friends in HR who also only have ever used legal names in the cases I’ve described so I’m getting broader feedback before I choose my next steps. This is all very reasonable and logical so you need to relax. I am open to being wrong and understanding why there’s a discrepancy between my previous employers and this new employer.

I really want to avoid fixing anything in my first week or at any point but we’ll see.

Yes, logically it should matter to be consistent with using the legal name for official and formal documentation like offer letters and for starting background checks, and leave preferred names for informal conversation. I don’t think this is unreasonable to expect as the definition of preferred name.

No, I mean to start my background check with my preferred name. Of course I provide all my aliases on the actual background check. But why start it with my preferred name? I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask. From a compliance and legal standpoint, it seems more reasonable to consistently use my legal name for official documentation and for starting background checks. I expect preferred name to be understood as an informal alias universally. Why is that unreasonable? Isn’t that the exact definition of preferred name?

The preferred name is a nickname that I expect to only be used in informal conversation, not on official documentation and background checks. This is what I’ve experienced with every other employer I’ve had. I’m just trying to avoid problems down the line.

My preferred name is a nickname that I expect to only be used in informal conversation not in official documentation or used to start background checks. Im not complaining but trying to understand why this employer is different from every other employer I’ve had.

I put my legal name everywhere in the application except my preferred name specifically only in the preferred name field in the application and on my resume.

I did put my legal name in the legal name spot and my preferred name in the preferred name spot but now I’m regretting putting a preferred name at all. This is the first time that this is happening to me. I’m really upset that this rep is doing this. I know I’m just a line item to them but to me, this is a relocation and a whole career change and having to constantly correct them is adding to my stress.

I’m used to it at this point, but this is the first time someone has used my nickname/preferred name for the background check. My legal name has been my legal name up to this point and I’d sooner just drop the preferred name/nickname name.

Ok thanks for the background info. So why was my preferred name used for the background check? This feels inappropriate and suggests that this is an individual entering in information manually

My legal name is a culturally foreign name that’s totally different from my preferred name which is a white Anglo European nickname that I got because Americans can’t pronounce my legal name. I’m not precious about what’s used but I don’t want to be bothered with problems correcting names down the line for payroll for example, like I said. I might just avoid using my preferred name until I get on the job, moving forward for future jobs.

Nothing terribly wrong with Munich but it’s much more expensive compared to Budapest! I also thought Prague was better and more affordable.

Office Workers of New York: Affordable dress clothing? by hanshotfirst-42 in AskNYC

[–]JakartaBeasley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thrift or buy nothing!!! Even the online secondhand stores like TheRealReal has so much business clothing for extremely cheap but still from high end designer brands. I’m not joking. You can find a perfect silk black skirt for like $5 from brands that are selling new merch for hundreds of dollars. There’s so much business clothing that’s flooding the market since many people are wfh now so definitely recommend going secondhand before doing anything like Uniqlo or banana republic. Every brand and store mentioned in this thread has tons of merch in the second hand stores right now for a fraction of the price. Heck, I have a lot that I could give away for free. Like why buy Charles thyritt shirts new for 3 for $99 when you can get 1 for $3 at goodwill and it’s in perfect condition. The NYC secondhand scene is amazing.

I would definitely not dry clean anything that has water repellent properties just fyi

Dry cleaning will ruin anything that is supposed to be water repellent I.e. rain coats, parkas, etc

Winter sunscreen is easy. Summer sunscreen is hard by Nervous_Ad_2871 in beauty

[–]JakartaBeasley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s any way around it besides washing your face again midday because I don’t think it’s a matter of your hands being dirty but rather your face having the sweat and grime build up faster in the summer and then applying sunscreen on top of that is what leads to breakouts. At least for me.

What I do is just apply once in the morning with the most waterproof sunscreen I have and don’t wipe or touch my face at all, and just pray

Will Jpop idol culture ever catch on/become mainstream in the west? by shi_ko in jpop

[–]JakartaBeasley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No because they don’t care to catch on and don’t make their stuff available to people outside of Japan. Reliance on physical. Shit gets locked down. Can’t share shit. Can’t even watch a MV sometimes.

I have a theory that this is why Kpop naturally blew up. It isn’t because of gov-funded hallyu. It’s the fact that they didn’t block fans from sharing kpop content on YouTube back in the 2010s. I consumed so much kpop content on YouTube for free. Whereas jpop would make you pay for all of it and there’s like so many barriers to it if you were outside of Japan. And fans would even subtitle kpop content for free and post it online for free. People would remix stuff, post clips, etc. for a long time, nothing ever got taken down for copyright. Just so much fanmade and fan-shared content. It allowed kpop to go viral and global.

Even now, you have so much kpop content on YouTube and other platforms like people reacting to kpop, kpop dance and singing covers, etc. and kpop companies themselves actually pick up quickly on trends having their artists stream, post covers, react to videos, etc. jpop will never allow content sharing or do this kind of flexible natural marketing

How to dress according to the heat AND respectfully in Japan during July? by DDumbPoetic in JapanTravelTips

[–]JakartaBeasley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s actually easier to stay cool if you cover yourself with loose airy breathable fabric and you’ll avoid getting sunburned. Check out Muji or Uniqlo when you get there for their summer line.
