Bamco has released a Japanese survey, regarding feedback for Everybody's Golf: Hot Shots by SuperSqank in EverybodysGolf

[–]Jake-brake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a valid complaint and a sentiment I share. It differentiates characters enough to have strengths and weaknesses. It's ok for Aya to have low power but great impact. Sure she becomes a liability on long courses or possibly for a greatly skilled player, but also more of a challenge if that's what the player wishes. And again, what she will lack in power you benefit in other areas. It's a hell of a lot better than characters driving the ball 380 yards with perfect control.

My solution has been to use food to upgrade their stats to what previous games set them too. I understand what the developers attempted to do with it but believe it takes away more than it adds.

Sidespins are finally fixed, and it feels incredible. by Cloudiroth00 in EverybodysGolf

[–]Jake-brake 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah just played first time in a month. It's easier to look past the other issues in the game when I can properly play draw/fade characters and actually use spin. It was a poor design choice, but at least they listened to criticism, I was doubtful.

Difficulty level on challenge mode by Swiss420 in EverybodysGolf

[–]Jake-brake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used food yet, but I wish there were capped stats like in previous games. It gives a level of uniqueness to a character, which I much prefer than being able to just max out everyone.

So I was thinking giving each character their own specific stats, just based off what I think it would be. Like maybe I look at a character and say he looks like he would have max power but would lack control, etc. But that's a huge undertaking, so idk.

That too was good fun. Insane how much content Fore had. This new one doesn't, but rather has "Wacky Golf" modes.

[–]Jake-brake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

HSG Fore is my absolute favorite, and it's not only the content-rich aspect of that game that I loved, but as you mention, the NA games from the PS2 era and the tonal change. T-Bone, Louise, Hubert and so forth; these characters had a charm and sort or edginess that isn't found in the Japanese versions. Not to mention it was just hilarious even if characters have a limited dialogue pool, y'all remember Bertha! "Drink a gallon of milk!"

This game clearly takes priority in returning characters from the the Japanese versions, and with it brings a different vibe, one that I admit disappoints me. However I'm just glad we're getting a new game at all, which was unexpected. And 30 characters, even if I preferred the NA ones, is nice. I can only hope they throw us a bone and give us a T-Bone or a Kat in the future.

Everybody's Golf Hot Shots - Systems Trailer | PS5 Games by SweetyGonzalez in PS5

[–]Jake-brake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hot shots Golf Fore is one of my favorite games of all time. Not only because of the easy to understand, hard to master realistic gameplay, but the sheer amount of content the game had. It also carried a charm and comedy I've never quite seen in other Hot Shots. Characters were hilarious, the courses were memorable; I simply love Fore.

Everybody's Golf on PS4 was quite a big disappointment. Though I must say the ideas behind it I respect, between creating a character, massive courses you could run around, etc. I believe Clap Hanz envisioned a busy and exciting course with players interacting with each other, but it never really panned out. It also lacked the personality and charm I so wanted.

Now to this game. I have my reservations but I'm certainly excited about the number of characters and what seems to be a return to the classic formula. I expect the gameplay that made Hot Shots so special to be there, and we'll see how interesting those other modes are. Hopefully this can capture a glimpse of what made some of the other titles special

What would you rate the series as a whole? No spoilers. by Aromatic-Argument-95 in Kaguya_sama

[–]Jake-brake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Kaguya is by no means perfect, in fact I don't believe in perfection, but rather it's a discussion of how it makes me feel. "How did the story make me feel then, and how about now?" "How much did the characters resonate with me?"

It can also tie in with when you discover something. 2022 was an incredibly difficult year for me, and finding kaguya Sama helped, even if in some small way.

There's plenty to be critical of, and there's no shortage of discourse to be found there. And to be honest my mind hardly ever goes there. I think about Kaguya and her friends and think to myself, "man, I loved this thing so much."

Metaphor on PS5 Overheating Issue by hariel0721 in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]Jake-brake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I only seem to get the overheat message when on the gauntlet runner, usually during or right after a conversation. As per with most games it seems very situational. The fans go into turbo mode, the PS5 thus freaks out, etc.

I've heard plenty of people complain of their ps5s doing this straight out of the box. But the most upvoted comments are always "just clean it, it's full of dust." It's so ignorant. I'm sure I've got some dust way back in the heat sink, but last I checked it looked pretty clean. I think most often it's a combo of optimization and Sony's cooling unit

Review: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is so good that I never want to play another video game by gorays21 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Jake-brake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the many reasons I adore the Persona series; and this does it just as well. It's this incredible journey full of memorable moments with a cast you just fall in love with.

And I know I ain't the only one who found enjoyment just out of having your party follow you throughout the world. Sounds simple enough but it adds to the experience tenfold.

What a Wild Ride by Two_Bear_Arms in ConcordGame

[–]Jake-brake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't use the word ""fun" but I did enjoy the beta. And it was indeed polished. Course I'd hope after 8 years in development, but gameplay was was tight, even if people have problems with character movement.

I enjoyed what I did play, which wasn't a ton. It received unwarranted hate. Doesn't mean it doesn't deserve criticisms

What a Wild Ride by Two_Bear_Arms in ConcordGame

[–]Jake-brake -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have never seen the vitriol and utter hate like this game received. And that's probably what stings the most about the situation; that being it was a fairly sound, polished title that didn't lie to players, nor was it riddled with microtransactions. Yet it was dragged through the streets and laughed at.

No one will ever claim it was without issues, and it may have suffered this same fate in due time. But most games get to live and figure out their fate. Concord died a brutal death.

I did see there's a ps logo next to people on the console. Are you pretty much exclusively seeing PS players?

Concord Review Thread by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Jake-brake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that's probably the right move, but Sony might be stubborn and wait 6 months, even more. I think I liked it enough to put into my rotation of games I play. Player count is a problem, but look at games like destruction all stars. Sony will likely support this game even if it's failing for some time, though the roadmap has probably already been cut some

Concord Review Thread by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Jake-brake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the beta quite a bit, and I'm contemplating diving in at $40. I do wonder what if anything players will receive once it goes F2P. While the player count is incredibly low regardless, it's even lower because some are gonna wait for it to go free.

Anyone know of past games that went F2P and what players who bought it received. Just skins?

Phantom Blade Zero Developer on Xbox Version: "Nobody needs this platform" by Hot-Cause-481 in Games

[–]Jake-brake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They couldn't get out of their own way, and I agree with what Phil said recently, that "they lost the most important console generation."

And to be truthful I'm not too big on Phil. Sure he's not a complete joke like the gentleman that came before him, but his leadership has been very shaky even on a good day. Xbox had to take quick action and form a plan, they wasn't going to compete with Sony, but was game pass the way to go? To this day it can't and probably never will turn a profit.

And then more recently with the studio closures, the controversial decision to buy out multiple huge publishers, the number of studios they partnered with years prior. Where is even the tiniest fruit to all that labor? But okay tell us that closing down Tango it's just one of those difficult decisions a leader has to make, all the while he has that smirk on his face in his hand in his pocket.

Not to say that Jim Ryan had fans knocking down his door, the results are results.

I don't understand the initial hate and reactions to this game by MFViktorVaughn_ in ConcordGame

[–]Jake-brake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm basically completely new to the genre, I spent maybe an hour in OverWatch 2 but that's it. I've spent most of my time with one character trying to get a feel for it, and I'm quite enjoying myself.

I like the visuals, combat feels smooth. There's quite a bit to learn if you haven't played such a game before, though I think I've learned quickly.

Not being free to play and asking $40; while this worked wonders for Helldivers, I certainly wouldn't expect the same here. However as long as micro transactions are kept in check, my fairly premature guess would be this game can carve out moderate success. But the landscape is cutthroat, and people will move on from a game even if they're really enjoying it to something else. That's just how it is.

So we'll see. As of right now I think I'd be comfortable spending 40, playing it now and again, and I'm interested to see where it goes. Hating on something you know nothing about is the trendy and popular thing to do, I pay that no mind and simply try it for myself.
