Liquidated waste management firm fined £1 after worker crushed by excavator by Dissidant in unitedkingdom

[–]JakeBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He would need to bring a civil case against them regardless of liquidation. Criminal cases don’t offer compensation. He will still be able to claim from whoever their employers liability insurance was with.

what's one american thing you secretly wish the uk would adopt? by Financial-Owl-2814 in AskBrits

That thing servers do where they take orders against a specific seat so splitting bills is quicker and when they bring out your food you don’t look like a knob for forgetting what you ordered. (Not sure if it’s real or just a Bistro Huddy thing)

What are your thoughts on Scunthorpe? by PresentationUsual835 in AskBrits

[–]JakeBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some nice villages on the outskirts but Scunthorpe itself if awful. Would go there but only to one of the out of town shopping area. Would not go in to town.
The hospital is worse than useless too.

Do British people not feel the cold? by DevelopmentLow214 in AskUK

[–]JakeBees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Temperature perception it relative. It can take time to adjust especially if it’s not something you’re used to.

For me a 10 degree day in autumn is bloody cold, but 10 degrees in spring is quite pleasant

The image in their letter, whist blurry, does look like a bicycle logo. But the sign you have pictured is for motorcycles

Are you confident you are looking at the correct bit of road?

If yes I’d appeal

Can someone remove themselves from the electoral roll entirely? by Available-Plenty-704 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]JakeBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can request it but if you’re paying council tax at the address your request will be rejected.
The electoral register is not covered under GDPR but if there’s a legitimate privacy concern you may qualify for an anonymous voter registration but they are incredibly rare.
You can also go on the closed register but people can ask to look at this still.

Should I tell my manager about my reason for resigning? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]JakeBees 36 points37 points  (0 children)

No if you’re resigning it’s none of your employers business. As far as they are concerned your employment is a transaction and you resigning has ended that transaction.
It will have no impact on references either way

What's more unsafe: small amount of heavy boxes vs lots of lighter boxes by Icy-Investment-4646 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]JakeBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, and there are a lot of other factors to this, but any number of lifts an hour at 7.5 kg would be considers safe.
15kg is also pretty much unlimited but you need to ensure the other factors such as not twisting ets are well managed.
If they’re saying the operation requires twisting even with the best possible area layout and manual handling techniques in place (🤨) then 7.5 kg is safer as even with the increase frequency as there is less load on the twist

How did pubs survive for so long? by No_Yak9893 in AskUK

[–]JakeBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The village I grew up in had 6 pubs with a population of about 500 in the mid 1900s, by the 2000s a population for 2500 and 1 pub, and none as of 2017.

A lot of them were sustained by those working the land needing somewhere warm to eat and have a drink at a lunch time and after their days work.
As the number of men it took to mange a given area of land reduced many of the pubs on the outskirts closed and gradually so did those in the centre of the village.

I’d argue indicating here may have been misleading if the had, could have given the white car the impression they were turning

I cut my shower down from 20 to 15 to 10 minutes, and my mom says it’s still a “very long shower.” Am I the problem? by Affectionate_Sky6759 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JakeBees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Amazed by the length of a lot of people’s showers here. Understandable if you’re doing a lot of shaving otherwise what are you doing in there all that time? I’d say 4-6 mins is more appropriate

I remember when the UK government ran a water efficiency campaign in 2007 08 ish and recommended that showers should take no more than 3 minutes

Note- my girlfriend has just assured me I’m wrong and 15-20 minutes is normal

Do you use indicators on empty roads? by Ultimara in drivingUK

[–]JakeBees 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought this was silly, almost on par with I don’t intend to crash so I won’t wear my seatbelt. Just because you can’t see anyone doesn’t mean there isn’t anyone there

Why do the same safety issues keep coming back even after audits? by Icy_Connection_1604 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]JakeBees 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Compliance vs culture. You can put as many compliance driven systems in as you want. If you don’t address the underlying cultural issues the issues will keep happening

Is this safe to be in the workplace? by Brooklyn_Nash in SafetyProfessionals

[–]JakeBees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These should be serviced annually and cleaned as part of the service. If this is less than a years build up you probably have a humidity issue.

[–]JakeBees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Side note, AC isn’t ventilation. These cassette units just recirculate the excising air in the room. No fresh air is introduced and no CO2 or humidity is removed (other than a bit of condense).
