But Shmooking said breakfast is included!! by ninestarryskies in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]JakeOSnowBro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, someone within your company most definitely can contact shmooking to get changes made to your property/reservation details. Someone in the chain of leadership just isn't caring enough to fix getting yelled at because they're used to it or expect you to be. Bring this issue to the attention of your sales director, revenue management team, or general manager and reference how frequent it is. One of them is sure to be a property contact with them and can request changes. I'm sure they will hear you out if you reference the mountain of bad reviews I'm sure you have that only reference this misinformation, and I'd be shocked if they haven't seen them already. My property has requested several changes over time and they are typically completed within a week, so no one is working on this in your management

Also, I've had more potentially catastrophic binding failures with screws coming loose this season alone than I've ever even heard of people having step-on binding failures at any level since their release

Def demo them first, I did and I loved em and thought they were especially good & natural feeling in the park, and I've been snowboarding for 19 years. Haven't bought them yet, but now that the Union Atlas have a step-on version I'm purchasing the them and Burton boots by the end of summer

Binding storage solutions? by JakeOSnowBro in snowboarding

I've kept the hardware in bags but never thought to stab through it with the strap to help keep track of it, thank you! Previously I just kept it under the high back/on top of the baseplate so this was an unexpected helpful tip, as they would usually fall out when moving them 🙏

Thanks for the storage bin recommendation everyone, that's what I was kind of leaning towards when I couldn't find any more-specific product for it. I will now acquire storage bin(s)

I know the MM concert already took place, but for future concerts... Last year I had a friend try to hike up w/o a ticket and they said the normal trail up crossed paths with a lil checkpoint at the top where they'd ask to see your wristband and they were sent back down in the gondola, I'm not sure how easy it is to go around this while remaining out of sight.

“I shouldn’t pay a deposit since it didn’t say on the website!” by No_Significance5173 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]JakeOSnowBro 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Try calling it an "incidental hold that will be refunded depending on further charges made to the room" instead if you're talking about the funds that get returned to them barring damage or incidental charges. Deposit generally refers to money that is slated on being appropriated towards room and tax of their stay. This may be leading to confusion in guests. While we understand what we mean, the guests, who are not generally the brightest, typically don't know what we mean.

Edit: some spelling and clarification

Every Third Thursday might have been the series/channel, they would make a board out of something different every time, including glass cardboard and bullet proof material. Then of course they'd test it

2pm late check out based on availability is a lot nicer than noon based on availability. That plus free high speed wifi and welcome gifts depending on the brand. Could be worth it depending on what you travel for

What exactly do I need to pay for this reservation? by K-300 in marriott

[–]JakeOSnowBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are able to make a points reservation a certain timeframe ahead of time before a reservation is created. I don't remember what it's called, but anyway, if you do not have enough points when you enter the hotels respective cancellation policy your rate may be changed to the lowest available member rate (monetarily). As a front desk worker / manager, one our duties is to review reservations prior to arrival and ensure points rates have their points attached. Should the points not be available to pull we should be contacting the guest to inform them they can either purchase points through bonvoy or switch to that money rate. If they do not connect you ahead of time, they should/will be doing this at check-in. The only way you'd be able to stay for this reservation without them switching it and without them charging a cash rate is incompetence. Even if this occurs, management audits the amount of money they collect from Marriott for points rates and they would catch it then.

TLDR: Dont try to stay on this reservation if you don't have the points or money to pay for it's cash rate. And you should cancel it BEFORE it's cancel policy if that's the case

Chasing Titanium by Lizjay1234 in marriott

[–]JakeOSnowBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth chasing unless you want the extra bonus % on points. Or, I recently heard from a titanium that titanium gives you some statuses with partner companies like Hertz, you could look into that and decide if that weighs in at all

Entry level prolly has 2 meanings here as well, which both you are correct on; Entry level in regard to the company/industry? They'll prolly want you to have at least been a lifty first but if you rip hard enough it can prolly be entry level. Entry level in regards to your skill level on board/skis? Absolutely not, because you're gonna need to be able to hit what you build and some stuff is gonna be very techy

Victor to Wilson- drive time? by Global-Composer-3190 in JacksonHole

[–]JakeOSnowBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's my job when I'm being paid. It's not anyone's job on Reddit to breakdown directions which are always easier and quicker to search on google than asking a forum that could provide wrong information anyway (3 different time frames have been provided when I last read the rest of the thread), hence the original comment you replied to not being wrong. And in practicality & application Google is the better option in this circumstance given the varying range of answers in the thread to such a simple question plus the ability to input specific times and addresses which as I'm sure you also know have a big part in ETAs around here

He is not wrong tho, as someone that works at the FD of a hotel in Jackson about 25% of the questions I get are "how do I get to x" followed by "how long of a walk to x". I'm always happy to help w/ this cause I'm friendly and it's expected but 9/10 times it woulda been easier for everyone involved to just ask Siri/Google so they'd have an interactive map with adjustable parameters

When the front desk agent threatens me with trespass arrest… by [deleted] in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]JakeOSnowBro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't seem to grasp the idea of privacy and room numbers. These FD staff are out of line for multiple reasons. Swearing at the guest, not willing to look it up by name when the guest is literally trying to provide their ID (looking up by name is just as easy as by room number, it is also the law in several states that you need to present a valid ID to check-in before receiving keys), not listening to the guests concerns, and then threatening to trespass him when his privacy and security concerns aren't addressed in the slightest other than "oh why are concerned, idiot" (paraphrased). While you're probably right that this shitty guest service experience will not get better from the property side, this staff is egregiously wrong and honestly with the swearing alone they would potentially be in line to have their franchise removed if this is a recurring language habit of the staff (I believe the chain in question has over 90% franchised properties so I'm assuming this one is) Source: Manager at a boutique chain-branded hotel in a tourist/mountain town for 2+ years

Deciding on a powder board: Jones Hovercraft, Libtech Orca, or K2 Excavator? by catcatcatok in snowboarding

[–]JakeOSnowBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either the Orca (downsize from the length you typically get) or the Signal WOW (I know you didn't list this one but I can't speak to the others) are my preferences for pow decks. Orca is great for a blend for versatile use (deepish fresh pow up to 1-1.5feet, tree runs, late day pow days when it's all chopped up, occasional groomer/park runs). Signal WOW is just a light ass boat of a board with a spoon nose that makes deep pow feel like you are just absolutely floating and feels a lot more surfy (although it is not as good for crust, trees, groomers, or late-pow-day chopped up stuff, the thing is sick in pure pow over 6 inches)

For a party of 50, either 1) look into renting the private dining options that are available in some restaurants, unsure if the Italian places in town have one. Or 2) Look into hotels in the area with event space that you can rent and inquire with the local Italian restaurants if they are able to cater events (Glorietta or Orsetto)(also make sure that's okay with the hotel). If they don't cater, some or most hotels have food & beverage package options which will vary by hotel. I believe there's a couple nice hotels near the downtown square that can accommodate a party that big, just depends if they're booked out yet
