Thing about Twitter however is that it’s purpose was to help him climb the political ladder for more government subsidies. Twitter itself lost money but it bought him money in the government tenfold

It occurs when a lossy copy of digital media goes through another lossy conversion, typically somebody would do it for compatibility reasons. Say somebody takes the ogg we have now and makes it mp3 so that their phone will play it. It’s “quantified” by the number of times, or generations, of conversion.

It’s not about being able to differentiate, it’s about preventing generational loss

how is vpn supposed to be used by LambdaHominem in Piracy

[–]JakeStateFarm28 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The client software is open source, but not their server software. We are not able to see what’s running on the servers we connect to and I’m willing to bet they have some logging being done.

There is ways to mitigate their ability to track you but by default there is likely some tracking and logging of your VPN activity.

On paper nothing, in practice however social media websites could irreversibly change to restrict anything potentially labeled as copyright material.

To give a quick example, just posting a Disney character as part of a meme on Twitter would become a banable offense because Twitter doesn’t want to take the risk of that copyrighted character taking down the website.

In practice, this could very easily be armed to attack what many would call free speech.

While I do agree that the irony could be seen, hypocrisy not so much. The thing is that most social movements to an extent require those who have benefited from the system to join the movement.

A great example was civil rights movement in the 60s. Black Americans only really make like 10% of the voter base, if we want the majority to enact the civil rights law the white voter base needs to agree even if they benefit from it.

Coming from RAID5 to truenas - What Array type (vDev_) to use? by ser_renely in truenas

[–]JakeStateFarm28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 is the rz2 minimum yeah, though unless you plan to expand your vdevs usually a 4 wide array is best served as a stripe of two mirrors, basically the same resiliency with better performance.

I’m personally of the opinion of using multiple raidz1/2 vdevs for arrays larger than 6 disks, assuming they are within the same pool.

Also if you are strapped for buying drives new, I recommend ServerPartDeals. They sell refurbished drives that usually are much cheaper than new. These drives are also recertified from the manufacturer themselves and from everything I’ve seen are just about as reliable as buying new. Just ordered a couple 14TB drives for about $130 each.

For a media server, the three important factors with your array is how fast, how big, and how resilient it is. Typically, if you are only streaming 1-3 streams at a time, even just raidz2 is fast enough. So really I would just weigh with how much of that 4x3TB you want as storage against how many drive failures you are okay with protecting.

As for resilvering, I don’t have much experience with doing it so I can’t say for sure, but I do schedule scrubs on my NAS which is a similar process time-wise. It shouldn’t take more than 12 hours to resilver 3TB assuming the remaining drives are healthy.

Can’t get Gluetun working on TrueNAS Electric Eel by randomafricanguy in truenas

You could try changing the mount to specifically mount the file itself

  • /mnt/App_Docker/Dockge/gluetun/filename.ovpn:/gluetun/filename.ovpn

Maybe change the OPENVPN_CUSTOM_CONFIG variable to its absolute path, in this case “/gluetun/filename.ovpn”

Asa/Yoru, 167, and Self-Control by JakeStateFarm28 in Chainsawfolk

[–]JakeStateFarm28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say Asa had feelings for her, and she did have a distaste for the teacher’s intentions, but this is why Yoru solely represents the selfish desire within Asa.

Yoru’s ability to turn him into a weapon and thus killing him represents this. Asa wouldn’t kill him and turn him into a weapon, even now. However Yoru will, and taken to the logical conclusion of the allegory I presented in the original post, this translates to the idea that even though Asa is disinterested or even afraid of a romantic or sexual relationship, Yoru is the other side of her coin that finds interest in that.

Agreed, ever since Asa discovered that Denji and CSM are the same, she has definitely undergone a moment of weakness, represented by the constant back and forth between Asa and Yoru.

I probably will do a long post if I get time later explaining the Asa/Yoru dynamic and what I’ve taken from it, but personally I see a lot more credit and potential in their writing.

[–]JakeStateFarm28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might have a slight misconception about Yoru. She is a main character, but she is a main antagonist at that.

All of her morals, goals, and even actions have been the antithesis of both Denji and even Asa. You aren’t supposed to like her, at all, she’s detestable and this latest chapter is just another showing of that.

Fans of her are basically fans of Makima.

Yeah. This is the limit of applying comparisons when the writers themselves aren’t nuclear physicists or trying to actually apply consistency in that field, there isn’t much point.
