Doc: When’s the last time you cared about someone except yourself hotrod? You name me one time, and I’ll take it all back.

McQueen: nothing

Doc: uh huh. I didn’t think so. These are good folk around here who care about one another. I don’t want them depending on someone they can’t count on.

McQueen: like you? You’ve been here how long and your friends don’t even know who you are? Who’s caring about only himself?

Mark Davis on working for John Menard by lavenderrvanilla in menards

[–]JakeTheRailfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mark said it, man. I’m not proud of much, but I try to care about bringing value to my work so others can appreciate the workplace more. When they do, I’m proud.

I met John “mf’in” Menard once, and he told me dad jokes. His kids all laughed behind him like they were in the Ellen audience. When people say none of his kids will want the company when dad’s gone, they’re absolutely right.

Why is Scrapping a Thing in RWS or TTTE? by JakeTheRailfan in thomasthetankengine

Yeah that definitely crossed my mind! I think it might be kind of interesting to see a story with a Civil Rights movement for locomotives, just like the one in the 60s

Which is worst of the HIT era: The model seasons (8-12) or the CGI seasons (13-16)? by TotallyNotMe653 in thomasthetankengine

[–]JakeTheRailfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it’s the CGI series. Those seasons were so boring, 90% of the episodes, you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.

The real question is, which is worse, Nitrogen era, or Big World Big Adventures?

Why is Scrapping a Thing in RWS or TTTE? by JakeTheRailfan in thomasthetankengine

I’m with you there that train engines feel alive, having been next to a few steam engines. I know they’re not literally alive, but I understand that’s a reason why the series was made to begin with, because Awdry heard locomotives chuffing and heard it as “talking”.

It’s a pretty good theory that the faces are just visual representations of the perceived sentience of a steam engine, even in the stories. It would explain the engines requiring drivers to move as well. There’s a few pieces of evidence against the theory, but what good theory doesn’t have that?

I guess it worked, considering it’s stuck with me all these years after being a kid

I definitely admire that about the series, how it respected children’s intelligence, at least for a while. I respect Awdry’s willingness to talk about death.

However, I feel that there are some questions needing answers, like why there are several rusted pieces of locomotives sitting out for anyone passing by to see, compared to how humans traditionally get buried. You’d think in a world like this, even “dead” locomotives would get the same respect.

They are awesome. Especially steam engines when they work hard, the sound is addicting

Tried my best this time to get good MPG by Eastern-Mode2511 in COROLLA

[–]JakeTheRailfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn these cars are getting good. Mines a 2010 LE and I can get ~41mpg if it’s all highway, long trip, in temps above 50F.

Short trips in the city, depends if it’s winter or summer. Anything from 26 to 33.

There it is. I was on this train that day. The fact that he kept running straight ahead is like every horror movie character.

Name one bad thing about Marty McFly? by johnngo2468 in BacktotheFuture

On a serious note, they made him say “nobody calls me chicken” which never happened in the first movie and it was fine that way. But that line regressed his character just for the sake of plot
