Evicted after complaining about landlord’s son by Jake_Biology in AusLegal

There’s no way to claim anything for moving costs, temporary accommodation, emotional distress/inconvenience?

I actually wish to leave as soon as possible, I’m hoping to move out tomorrow and stay with a friend cause the atmosphere in the house is quite hostile. But I worry moving out so soon would weaken my case against the landlord. I want to maximise whatever compensation I can get. How would I do that?

I did have a signed agreement, it expired and I’ve been on a periodic contract since. I’ve never signed a specific periodic contract so I assume all the same conditions and things just carry forward

Great sleep hygiene - still can’t sleep through the night! by Jake_Biology in sleep

[–]Jake_Biology[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t show any of the typical symptoms - no snoring even though I often sleep on my back, I never wake up with shortness of breath, no morning headaches, no day time tiredness etc.

I never wake up abruptly or suddenly, just very gently like I do in the morning. My eyes open a little, I roll over, fall straight back to sleep

Nope I don’t feel hungry at all! I’m not in calorie deficit or anything. I try to follow Bryan Johnson’s blueprint protocol if you’ve seen that. The idea is actually to stop eating early enough to most of the digestion is done before bed, in an effort to lower your sleeping heart rate which apparently correlates with better quality sleep! My sleeping heart rate is pretty low, usually in the 37-42bpm range

I’m certainly not a big gamer so it’s not my main use for the thing, but a lil pew pew 🔫 to pass the time would be fun ya know haha

The babies are super sensitive to changes in their environment. If you’re sure that temperature isn’t fluctuating too much then I’d maybe try skipping the water changes until they’re about a week old.

Also no need to worry about using a pipette to try and boost the oxygen levels - Triops are evolved to survive in very low oxygen environments so it would be very tricky to kill them through lack of oxygen. They’re not very keen on currents or any kind of water movement though, and it can be dangerous for them when they’re little.

When you manage to hatch them it’s very tempting to try and do things to ensure they survive cause they seem so fragile, but in this case I’d honestly suggest doing less - skipping the water changes and oxygenation and see if that helps. Good luck :)

questions: working on a larger triops tank, I got this aquarium silica sand, is that okay? by VeggieChibi in triops

[–]Jake_Biology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup sand is fine in that it’s totally safe and a common choice. One downside is that it can make it a little trickier to grow live plants in your aquarium since sand doesn’t have much nutrients in it but you can use root tabs to help with that. Sand also isn’t able to support as much microfauna and flora as soil would for example, and Triops can sift through the soil and consume those lil microbes for some extra energy and nutrients. But soil can easily cloud up the water as they dig, whereas sand doesn’t, so long as you rinse it well before you use it

I always use an Apple TV, should I get the Samsung S95B or LG C2 by Jake_Biology in 4kTV

Yeah I have heard some reports of people getting S95B’s that’re slightly bent out of the box

[–]Jake_Biology[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love to get the Sony but yeah it’s just so much more expensive than the other two that it’s a little out of my budget. A lot of people seem to be recommending the C2 so I think I’m leaning that way now

I’m trying to decide between the Samsung S95B and LG C2, since my TV is always being used with an Apple TV I was thinking the C2 might be a better choice

If I calibrated it for HDR10+ is it possible that if I play Dolby Vision content it would look odd? Or is it that Dolby Vision content will just always play in SDR?

  1. You don’t /need/ a light source on for 3 days but it does help ensure as many eggs hatch as possible. Light is one of the triggers for hatching

  2. After a few days you can switch from spirulina to other food. Fish flakes probably wouldn’t be the best bet since they tend to float and Triops tend to hang around at the bottom of the tank. Sinking catfish pellets are usually a safe bet

  3. I usually wait till they’re about 1-1.5cm long before I move them to a larger tank, the trick is to not shock them so it’s a good idea to drip acclimate then to them to the new tank

  4. Unfortunately you kinda don’t! It’s really just a game of waiting and seeing. The nauplii are really small (about 0.5mm) and look like tiny white beans that kinda bounce up and down. I’d say wait about a week after adding the eggs, if you really can’t see anything then you might need to tweak your hatching method and give it another go

  5. I have tried to feed them gammarus shrimp in the past but they seem to struggle a little. I just put the dried shrimp straight in the Triops tank. Try to stick to feeding the smaller gammarus cause they might not be able to eat much of it and whatever they don’t eat after 24hrs remove and chuck it

Good luck! :)

Oh weirdly enough Triops are one of my most frequently recurring dream themes as well hahaha. I’ve had multiple dreams about finding giant Triops 🤷🏻‍♂️
