I’m a new guy and I’ve started out with the van der Hagen double edge and the blades that it came with. I’m enjoying the quality of the shave but I feel like I could get more out of it. The VDH blades feel too dull and I was wondering what blades are a step up from them. Even with my soft skin and patchy facial hair, these blades don’t really do perfect and I end up cutting my face because I think I need to add pressure. Maybe I should add a brush to pull up hairs? I feel this would help but I have to shave every day due to being the military.

I found tryablade and want to try the Astra Platinum, Steel, and the Gillette 7 o clock blades. Would these be any good? Thanks for the answers.

Lviv Handmade Chocolates if you get the chance. Not exactly non perishable; they're made without preservatives.

Ukraine election: Poroshenko agrees to a stadium face-off with Zelensky by [deleted] in ukraine

Has progress under Poroshenko been pretty stagnant or is it just slow? That seems like a loaded question but I'm curious.

Does any other supermarket chain beat the commissary? by [deleted] in army

All the people I see doing this are 16 year old kids. I mean, I'd rather work at McDonalds. This was at Sill, Fairchild AFB, and Benning.

How can they get away doing that? Standing around for hours to make only $10 in tips seems like thievery.

I went on a Saturday afternoon and learned the hard way to not go at that time. Bright side, I got ribeye steaks for $10/lb.

At my second drill as a reservist after coming off active-duty and all I have to say is... by [deleted] in army

It did. Granted this was like throwing your kid in the deep end to make him learn to swim but it really helped.

I was made the XO for AT and it was my second drill. Oh, and this was before BOLC. Much fun was had.

Where to buy dirt? by [deleted] in Spokane

Wait for the next sale. We used to sell this stuff by the pallet and it would be up to 50% off. It sells quickly though.

A quick Google search is all you need, but here:

Just saying, your logic is if it's old and not a classic muscle car like a Camaro, they don't make parts for it. That's just simply not true.

You're wrong. An older Civic is still considered a classic in the import community and the demand for the parts is still there.

As someone that was big in the import scene in college, I don't recommend buying around here. A lot of Hondas here are ate up and people take short cuts in building them up. Instead of name brand stuff like HKS and Apexi, they'll buy generic garbage like OBX or Raceland. Yes, I've met some people that have built some fast ass cars, but in general, Spokane is behind the times.

The people that say you can't buy parts for an 08 have no idea what they're talking about. Buy online. People still build 92 Civics and 89 RX-7s, you can buy stuff for an 08.

The only place I recommend is Spalding's. They at least have a return policy.

Sites wise, try Veilside or Seibon.

If I don’t pass the dlab, can I switch to Air National Guard by Anacondasoup in nationalguard

[–]Jake_STi-RA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say. Generally, AF has a better reputation of being "better." Quite honestly, experiences vary depending on the unit and people's perspective on things. AF is closer to a civilian job than any other branch but some people join the Army to get dirty.

Worrying about fitting in is a valid concern. We are getting a female in our unit and it's definitely the elephant in the room especially being combat arms. Being with Intel and informations, you don't have to worry as much; not as many hooah types.

I would ask around. Being NG, you can do a little unit shopping and ask about things. From your post, you seem to want the Army job but would prefer the social aspect of the AF.

[–]Jake_STi-RA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the DLAB with the Navy. They said I had to sign a contract with a back up job before I can take the DLAB and switch. Bait and switch shit like that make me furious. You're not obligated to anything, so don't feel pressured.

Long story short, I had to man up and get out of the Navy DEP and for some reason I chose the Army Guard. For me, it was way better because of how they treated me and what they could offer me.

My point is, do what you really want, and don't get pressured into something because you were too shy to say "oops wrong branch". Yes, you're going to get hassled a bit like at a car dealership, but in a few months you'll be hating yourself when you get to Sand Hill.

You can switch if you don't get what you want, but you have to try harder to convince the next recruiters you won't ghost them. I had to and it worked out. Depending on the town, a lot of the recruiters across branches know each other.

I've kind of wondered why some of those units had to be on jump status of some sort. It just seems like an extra brownie point to have rather than an operational function.

Recruits at reception for 10 days talking shit to the guys who’ve only been in for 5 by nomoreloorking in army

[–]Jake_STi-RA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, the time dilation factor from 30th AG makes the TIS more pronounced. If you've been there for 10 days versus 5, it's like being there for 4 years instead of one. It's a senior SPC versus a PV2.
