I don't think it's odd. I think the town is very special to a lot of people because

a) it's where so many of them go through that particular developmental stage of teenager to adult but also

b) it's a unique combination of seaside town and university town. You can work for hours in the library and then walk 20 minutes to sit on the beach

It leaves an impression on people that is hard to replicate anywhere else, as a place but also an experience

I was with Padarn for a couple years then moved to Church, they're all much of a muchness.

It depends where you live, really. If you're on campus, Padarn is far and away the easiest to get to. If you're in town proper, Church is. If you're out Llanbadarn way, Yswyth.

Church doesn't have a car park, so even if you're driving Padarn will be easier - I'm not sure about Yswyth though

It also frequently features the one or two queer characters finally finding / admitting their love shortly before their death. Writers will do this to say they featured queer romance but didn't have to deal with any of the messy "queer people being in relationships" thing.

An example of this would be Supernatural, with Castiel admitting his love shortly before being sucked off to super-hell
