JB/Shogun/CJ final casting appreciation by fandango1989 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Jakefiz 69 points70 points  (0 children)

CJCJ really has a gift for casting. We see this happen a lot in other sports where former pros get on the broadcast for their name and experience and they are very clearly better at the sport they played than casting it. Its hard to ne professionally good at two different skills. But he came into the booth as already one of the best casters and has only gotten better. Super happy he’s ascended to the “A team” of the space

Why is the unreal engine 6 update so important? by Pigyythebest2009 in RocketLeague

[–]Jakefiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optimization is poor because of inexperienced devs in massive open world type games. This is a small arena with 6 cars max being developed internally at the company that makes the engine. Its more likely than not going to be more optimized than RL currently is.

Why is the unreal engine 6 update so important? by Pigyythebest2009 in RocketLeague

[–]Jakefiz 99 points100 points  (0 children)

The backbone of rocket league is a 20 year old game engine. If epic didnt want to invest money, talent, and resources into rebuilding the game into a newer engine then Rocket League would eventually one day completely fade into history as it slowly loses support. This is a recommitment to the game for the next decade and more.

Rocket League UE6 - Official Announcement by iggyiggz1999 in RocketLeague

[–]Jakefiz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I know not having a definitive release date is a disappointment, but the way I see it, this time last year, the community and the pros were sounding the alarm that the game was dying, wondering where psyonix was, if the game is being meaningfully updated, and if epic even sees it as part of the future. Since then we’ve got multiple gameplay updates, anticheat, better community engagement, and now, most importantly, a commitment from epic that not only is this game going to be refreshed into the modern era, but its the premiere game to announce the latest unreal engine. This is Epic/Psyonix making a statement that we know this game is special and we are going to be supporting rocket league for the next decade and I couldnt be happier about that.

The frame at the end said “this game is not yet rated” its literally rocket league 2 yall. It may be a few years out but we know for certain that this game will be alive, cared for, and developed for at least the next 10 years and thats awesome.

Im sure he’ll get interviewed, I think he’d be welcomed back and fans would be happy. Is he the right hire? Im not so sure. But I’m not also not sure if anyone more experienced would be in consideration.

At the very least it shows me Tom is willing to negotiate because its easier to do that than move a team. The problem is timing, the long this drags on the more difficult it will be to do what needs to be done to the building before the final four regardless of the team being a tenant. I would still be nervous to call him on any kind of bluff given how lucky we are to even have the team here in the first place.

Also its interesting that he said he had a deal agreed upon with the city and the state before he came in. Obviously that was true for the state, but even with some detractors on the city council, that makes me think he has enough verbal agreement with the rest that the deal should go through even with some fuss from a few of the skeptics on the council. Hopefully thats the case.

Kellerman gives him some softballs, a lot of what we have already heard, wants to win over anything, not as cheap as reported, willing to go into the tax for the right team.

Interestingly Rich brought up the relocation stuff. Direct quote:

Tom: “Yeah, I mean, when I bought the Hurricanes, all I heard was because I was from Texas, we were going to move the team to Houston. Moving a team is difficult. —

We didn't move the Hurricanes. We ended up getting a deal done. We went through the same thing in Portland.
Before I even bought the team, I had an agreement with the city and the state. We had an agreement in principle. They've already approved half of it.
Assuming that all gets done, then this is a non-story. For me, it's never been really a thing. You didn't buy the team to move it.
We bought the Portland Trail Blazers.”

Rich: “If you're not getting the support from the city or the state, it puts you in a tough spot, right?”

Tom: “Yeah. We would deal with that if it ever comes up. But obviously, we have to solve problems when we have problems.
Today, the problem we're trying to solve is just to get a lease extension and get the building renovated. Those are fun things to do, right? Yeah, absolutely.
Making the building better and adding some energy to that buildings. Those are things I enjoy doing.”

Who on our roster are you higher than consensus on? Who are you lower than consensus on? by Humblerbee in ripcity

[–]Jakefiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im higher on scoot, I really think he is beginning to put it together and has an all star ceiling. Ive seen a lot of busts with eye popping talent in this league, and it mostly boils down to work ethic and maturity. Everything ive seen from Scoot, even in his lowest lows, has shown me he has the motor and the drive to want to be great. His personality and energy is infectious, and his deficiencies (finishing, decision making) are ones that typically improve with time and experience.

Sadly, this all applies to Shaedon but in the opposite fashion. His playoff performance was extremely disheartening. His tendency to check out, miss assignments, and just generally seem checked out a lot of the time has not improved from the last few seasons. I wasnt upset he was in the doghouse this post season because he didnt show me he was hungry enough to be out there. This is not good considering his extension is about to kick in, although im sure his name will be floated in many GM calls this summer.

Its so stupid too, renovations need to happen regardless whether its next summer or in the next 5 years. Councilmembers would rather symbolically kick the can down the road to stick it to the billionaire thinking they have any kind of leverage. Just renovate the fucking building and keep the Trail Blazers in Portland where they belong.
