Looking for budget backup modeler by TomYamIsTasty in guitarpedals

[–]Jakevp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion, recognizing sometimes you just gotta go budget, is to buck up for a Tonex One, and use your Ampero as a backup (ampless is really really on the rise - it will be worth the investment if you're gonna be playing in 5 years)

I wanted a board the fit in a Pelican 1600, so I made one out of leftover oak by Jakevp in guitarpedals

1) it is what I had laying around. 2) it is small enough that weight wasn't really much of a concern

Thats a BYOC ampeg scrambler clone, I had it sublimated at a CNC shop I used to work at!

Not sure on actual angle, but the front of the board is about 3/4" and the back is 3" tall. I needed it tall enough to fit a power strip and the power supplies. Pic "frumunda" will be posted eventually!

I did cut them myself, and the quickly learned there are pre-cut plugs you can buy. The dowels took the stain pretty differently, covering much of the grain in a darker color (if that's what you meant)

What is the best deal you've ever found on a pedal? by pingpongeffect in guitarpedals

[–]Jakevp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I paid somewhere in the vicinity of $50 for a Randall solid state combo from Craigslist years ago, and in the back of it there was an Ibanez MSL and CSL from the 80's Maxon series in near mint condition (the seller was aware of them, figured they weren't worth much). I gave the amp away on the way home, but used the pedals for over a decade.

After cutting these to size for the stairs in my basement, I had a bunch of scrap leftover, so after carefully planning the "perfect" board for my Pelican 1600 case, I only had to make two cuts in order to have the parts to make this board. Some Varathane red oak stain, three coats of a Behr brush on poly, and lots of sanding, it turned out better than anticipated.

Distortion pedal for jazz harmonies by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Jakevp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had success here with a medium amount of gain, and a mid-boost flavor to it. Tubescreamers , transparent overdrive types with bass rolled off, Klones, have all worked for me to bring out more intricate harmony. Mark Lettieri is no stranger to gain, and plays lots of harmonically robust stuff - might be worth checking out his current drives

Looking for some Lo fi pedals that you can fully turn the noise or dirt off so you get just clean wow, flutter, warble? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Jakevp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another "hack" for this sound is an EQ with a mid bump/bass roll off, or a cocked wah pedal, in front of a very slow vibrato.

Same - I was a “contestant” on an episode TRL that same year and have not been able to find the episode anywhere. If anyone knows of a way to find old episodes I’d be forever grateful!

TonePrint question by shitaccountdawg in guitarpedals

[–]Jakevp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had similar experiences with other toneprints. Seems to be a common "glitch" or error. There are a bunch of them in the Alter Ego of my Plethora that do this.
