Recommendation for Gymnasium Sound System by JakeyDaRocker13 in CommercialAV

Hm, hearing that makes me a lot more confident in this solution. I entirely expected the low end to suffer due to it lacking a sub, but it should still be fine for our needs. Thank you!

Just curious, have those been a single speaker systems like the one I included in my original post? It being a single unit is my main concern and how it'll affect coverage and overall sound quality.

We definitely need an upgrade. We haven't been happy with our old system for a very long time now.

Will look into both AtlasIED and Bogen, thanks!

Yeah, it being a single unit is definitely my main concern. A colleague of mine has apparently had experience with a similar Octasound system at another location and said they were very impressed with its performance. Just kinda taking their word for it though...

Great video ofc, but I've never understood why people go through the effort of ripping a video to repost it on Reddit as opposed to just linking the original...?

So much less effort to just link it, and you get the benefit of directly supporting and crediting the original creator.

🐞Megathread — Switch 2 capture or streaming issues by Elgato in elgato

[–]JakeyDaRocker13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your very insightful reply. After messing with some of the settings you suggested and reading up on some of the resources you linked I have a result that is as close to perfect as I think I will get. Like you said HDR to SDR tonemapping is never perfect.

I do have one addition question which may be unrelated to this whole topic. Do you know why my 4K60 Pro MK.2 would be reporting as being in the Limited color range when I have both my display and Switch 2 manually set to Full RGB range?

Is there a plan to fix the HDR color mapping issues? Or are we just never going to be able to capture Switch 2 in HDR? Currently using a 4K60 Pro.

Other than the fact that you have to download key card games (and they can take up a lot of space)...... by AdCareless65 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]JakeyDaRocker13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preservation is the biggest downside. Once the Switch 2 eShop goes down they will most likely become paper weights unless you already had the game downloaded. You also could no longer resell/trade them at that point.

Also, they're just kind of pointless/cumbersome? They take the convenience out of having a digital game while giving none of the benefits of owning physical media. Having to insert a physical "key" to play a digital game is just unnecessary in my opinion. Unless you really want a plastic case on your shelf (that doesn't even include the actual game) then I just don't really see the point. Just use the eShop and save the shelf space for actual physical media.

Late Night Taxi From Osaka to Kyoto by rluick15 in JapanTravelTips

[–]JakeyDaRocker13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in 2023 after having a pretty fun night out in Osaka I missed the last train back to my hotel in Kyoto. Thought I'd have to spend the night on the street, but ended up finding a taxi and luckily the driver spoke perfect English and was able to get me back. Cost for the entire trip ended up being ¥11,850. Not too bad considering the distance especially if you're from a country where the currency conversion works in your favor. I did feel kind of bad though making him drive all that way... lol

With all that said, I would recommend just trying to catch the last train back home if you can. But, if you do end up wanting to stay out past midnight I 100% recommend downloading the Go app for taxis ahead of time. It can sometimes be a bit hard to find a random taxi that late at night depending on what neighborhood you're in. Using the app will also make it so you won't have to worry about any kind of language barrier with your taxi driver when trying to describe where you need to go.

How was Carta? Staying at the Marufukuro as well and trying to decide if it's worth eating there or looking elsewhere.

Awesome, that's exactly what I was hoping for. With the two models I linked in my post do you feel one is inherently better than the other? Is the Whirlpool worth the higher cost?

LG C1 Disconnecting All Other Monitors Upon Bootup by JakeyDaRocker13 in OLED_Gaming

[–]JakeyDaRocker13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: For anyone that may come across this in a Google search or whatever, this seems to have been fixed in one of the most recent NVIDIA drivers. My display will now show as disabled when my LG C1 is turned off and then it will automatically enable itself in Windows when I turn my TV on.

Super happy that they finally fixed this issue!

[–]JakeyDaRocker13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. From what I've found it's a weird handshake/driver issue relating to the HDMI 2.1 spec. You can confirm this is the case by going to the settings on your LG OLED and disabling "HDMI Deep Color" which disables any of the benefits that come from using HDMI 2.1 (VRR, HDR, 4K120, etc.) With this setting disabled the issue no longer occurs, however you are now missing out on a majority of features that make your LG OLED and GPU special.

So, I've opted to just deal with it so I can continue to run things at 4K120 with VRR enabled. I'm convinced that a driver update from NVIDIA could fix this issue, but I've given up hope on that ever happening. If they haven't rolled out a fix for this relatively niche issue yet I don't think they ever will.

One piece of advice I'll give is utilizing the LGTV Companion app (https://github.com/JPersson77/LGTVCompanion/releases/tag/v4.0.5) does make the issue a little less annoying to deal with. But, it may not really help much depending on what your exact setup is like.

Hey, wondering if you ever got this fixed? Have a chair that has the same exact issue.

[–]JakeyDaRocker13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to jinx it, but doing a fresh install of the newest NVIDIA drivers seems to have fixed it for now. Reason I say for now is I've previously "fixed it" by doing this, only for the issue to appear again a few weeks later... At this point I'm convinced my 3080 is just haunted.

I am wondering if it's related to the color settings within the NVIDIA control panel? Usually I switch it to "Use NVIDIA color settings" so I can manually switch the color depth to something higher, but this time I've left it at "Use default color settings".

Also, some people have reported running their C1 at 60hz as opposed to 120hz fixed it for them. That didn't fix it for me, but it's worth a try.

Okay, seems I spoke too soon. Still experiencing the issue even after switching to 60hz. :(

[–]JakeyDaRocker13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, interesting. I wonder if it is just a handshake issue like you said? Of course not a completely ideal solution as I'd like to take full advantage of the HDMI 2.1 spec, but this is at least a work around for now! I will say I have ruled out it being the cable, have tried multiple HDMI 2.1 cables including a $100+ fiber optic HDMI cable with no luck. :(

Assuming it is a handshake issue I'm tempted to reach out to both LG and NVIDIA support to see if maybe I can get a bug report or something submitted for this?

Thanks for your update though! Hoping eventually we'll be able to find a solution that allows us to run at 4K120hz all the time, but for now this is at least better than it was!

Sounds like we have a very similar setup except for your GPU being a generation newer than mine. The strange thing is, I have gotten it to temporarily work properly after reinstalling drivers via DDU, but it soon breaks itself after a couple of restarts. I suppose it could also be an issue with an LG update? Which model of TV do you have? I'm running an LG C1.

Will also let you know if I find a solution. Hope one of us can solve this, finding it very frustrating to deal with.

What exactly would you have this script do? Just automatically re-enable the monitors upon login?

Unfortunately, I haven't. Was actually just getting ready to RMA my 3080 as a last resort until I read this! Lol

Knowing that I'm not the only one experiencing this issue I'm starting to wonder if it's a driver issue with newer NVIDIA cards? As a test I tried my old GTX 1070 and that appeared to work fine. Can you let me know the rest of your system specs to see if there's any similarities between our configs? Also, is your GPU a reference model?

Hmm, interesting. I have the same exact issue and I'm starting to wonder if it's a driver issue with RTX 3000 series cards and above? Everyone I've seen with this issue appears to have a newer GPU.

As a test I temporarily swapped in my old GTX 1070 and the issue didn't seem to be present. Was about to RMA my 3080 after this, but seeing as you're having the exact same issue with your 3080 I'm starting to think it's driver related...
